TO MAKE A NEW PAGE DUE TO PORT OR NOT?

It's really something I'm just curious about... As some may know, the game I've been working on has been on the site for gosh knows how long, and as such has a single-digit game number. I have this weird kinda pride associated with that for some reason, but that's only slightly tangential.

Due to recently coming into possession of a legal copy of RMVXA, I've decided (mostly so I stop having headaches about workarounds) to port my game from 2k3 into VXA. Now the actual process of doing this is going decently well, besides trying to get a battle system I'm happy with that semi-replicates Gauge-type from 2k3 without reserve party members mucking everything up. But what I'm wondering is whether I should just update the old game page to reflect the porting effort.

My plan was to wrap up what I've done in 2k3 in a nice little package (with a bow on top) and putting it up for download; it's a good hour and a half of gameplay at the beginning of the game. Not great demo material per se, but it's definitely proof of concept for at least SOME of the game, as well as actually being MOSTLY bug-free and also COMPETENTLY WRITTEN for once. There's plenty of unfinished maps, but the item database is fully completely (sans key items) amongst other things.

The only thing I'm wondering is that, after doing that, should I go ahead and designate that page as "Cancelled" - since the 2k3 version IS cancelled for all intents and purposes - or should I just update the page to say it's a VXA game now and upload material accordingly? Really... I don't have NEARLY the material yet to pass muster with a brand new game page in the VXA version since I've just been laying out major systems and porting over the database - so no plot, no maps, no anything that would be considered a "proper" screenshot portfolio in terms of a new game page.

I guess I'm asking for clarification, suggestions, or really just general guidance as to what would be the most proper.
If it is just a port I'd say just update your current game profile as you progress and leave the rm2k3 version as an additional download.

If it were a second part or a more significant change (change of genre, maybe?) I'd see the justification to create another game profile.

What you need to ask yourself is whether the maker is the only difference or not. If the game description pretty much applies what you plan to do with the port, I don't think it would make sense to make a new whole new gamepage. You definitely would need a blog to inform of the engine update. Then, you would need to update the game description and post new screenshots, when you have them ready. Also, consider that you would lose your 45 subscribers. If all those aren't enough arguments to keep your current gamepage, then by all means, start fresh.

You can always change the description on the page anyway. Just bundle the old version up and make it an extra download, like AE suggested, trim and re-arrange the descriptions of the older screenshots and add up the new stuff.

The main and only con in this is that you won't be shown on the front page as a new game, but on the other hand, you keep the subscribers you already had who may forget to resubscribe to the new one.

All very valid points from everyone... I was just kinda uneasy suddenly upending a project that had been in one format for so long, especially without very much in the way of progress made on the port heh.

I've got the 2k3 version all .zip'd up and ready to go. Guess it's time to bid a fond farewell to it.
I like finishing things off, and leaving them separate - even if it is a canceled state. I personally would create a new gameprofile for the revamp, and keep the old gameprofile as is, and post a blog saying as much. Fresh start, fresh gameprofile!
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Having a single-digit game ID is pretty boss. I would only start a new one if it was full of really negative comments that you wanted to delete.
If it were me, I'd want to create a new page for the cancelled 2k3 game. Then I could keep the single digit game page for the new version. The only thing you can't remove are the main comments section, but if it's still the same basic game, most of it should still apply.
