After getting back from "Get Smart" which wasn't a terrible flick... but it got me thinking.

The main conflict being averted in the movie was the nuking of LA. Part of me wanted it to happen, so we could get rid of Hollywood as it is and start anew.

All I see or hear about anymore are:

Remakes
Sequels
Physical comedy (people getting crushed by a cow cuz its funnee)
Gay jokes

Basically just horse manure being churned out and force-fed to the public. No creativity, no passion being put into their creation, no nothing worthwhile. Now all we expect from hollywood are physical comedy gags and gay jokes. Obviously Hollywood considers the bulk of Americans to be sub-human cretins, because hey, creating movies that appeal to the lowest common denominator is just good marketing.

I'm bringing this world back for you and for me.

Thats why we must turn to Indie movies, they usually don't have the budget to remake a Hollywood movie nor buy the rights to a sequel. Most Indie movies are original or are a dry comedy. Great indie movies have also been featured "Pan's Labyrinth" was an Indie movie I believed and that was original.
Yea like JUNO! That movie rocked ::)!

Movies are a little lame, but if you don't go expecting much you might be entertained. However, maybe that's me being dumbed down. :-[
Aside from a few movies that come out every once in awhile that are actually good, when was Hollywood really doing something intelligent?

Hellboy 2 looks amazing.
The problem with movies isn't that there aren't good ones or that there aren't as many good ones as there used to be (there are more, if anything), it's that people only notice the crappy movies and are far too critical of the good ones because one gets more points for thinking everything sucks than thinking that something was pretty watchable but could've used a little more work, or something.

Really, though, everything in entertainment comes down to Sturgeon's Law.

Well that pretty much sums up my thoughts on the topic.
For cripes sake ST, stop citing a trope in every other post. =P

ST does have a point however. If you study anything about film history, films were actually much more numerous in the days of the studio system (pre-1970s) - and a vast majority of them were utter crap. You'll always have your good and bad stuff in any form of media.

That's not so much a trope as a philosophy that's detailed on TV Tropes. It's on Wikipedia, too, but TVTropes's explanations of things is basically always more fun than Wikipedia's. TVTropes is to Wikipedia as the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is to the Encyclopedia Galactica.

But yeah, Speaking in Tropes is one of the things that happens if you spend any time on TVtropes at all, which is why they say it will ruin your life.
I would have to agree with you there Harmonic. I haven't seen any good films in a while except for crappy remakes and such which get boring after a while.
It's been ages since I could say "That was a decent film". I mean WTF was Superhero Movie? Waste of money is what, but tbh I knew that before I walked in, but that's no use telling that to a Drake Bell fangirl. I think the last film I really liked at the cinema was I am Legend.
REMAKES GIMME DEM.

It's the dopamine, people. Encountering something familiar that you enjoyed releases dopamine.

That, or we're running out of ideas. It really saddens me that all the big headliners are movies that are remakes of old TV shows, old movies, or old comic books, or sequels to a movie about an old TV show, movie or comic book.
