MEGA MAN 9 FOR WIIWARE/PSN/XBLA, BITCHES
Posts
Nintendo Power broke information on Mega Man 9, coming as a WiiWare game.
Looks like an upgraded NES game and will be complete with a chiptune soundtrack.
I am so happy.

...lazy?

Wait so they're doing it in NES graphics? Kind of lazy on Capcom's part.
This is RMN.
This game looks pretty cool, and I wasn't expecting more standard Mega Man games to come out.
Wow, the graphics being used are completely unexpected. I was hoping more for something along the lines of Mega Man 8's graphics, but seeing how this is the kind of Mega Man I grew up on I suppose this is fine too.
I am noticing some old graphics being re-used though. That is a little disappointing.
Jewel Man's stage is largely taken from Wood Man, the ladders in one of the stages are from Clash Man's stage, there are other elements from Heat Man, some of the thin platforms are from Air Man's stage, etc.
It's really not hard to create these kind of NES pixel graphics, so re-using old stuff is trivial. If the game does play very well though, I can see this being forgivable.

Magma Man
Galaxy Man
Jewel Man
Concrete Man
Hornet Man
Plug Man
Tornado Man
Splash WOMAN
Wait, what? A WOMAN? Women aren't allowed to be robot masters!
Wow. Part of Wii's greater strategy to get the gamers who quit years ago to take up the controller again? Or in this case, the Wiimote?
So THAT'S why they had the Mega Man a minigame in ZX Advent. They were working on how to use the original NES engine and graphics, but for a newer game. ... After getting X Collection, this is REALLY making me want to get a Wii.
Damn you Nintendo/Inti Creates/Capcom!

I am so confused. I don't know whether to be intrigued by this and be celebrating thinking, "HOLY CRAP, FINALLY ANOTHER CLASSIC MEGAMAN GAME," but the other side of me is thinking that it's going to be crap, more than likely and that it's a bad idea to go back to such an old model... The newer Megaman's kept getting more and more fun -- as much as I love the old copies, they always add something:
MM2: Support Devices
MM3: Support Devices Standardized as Rush
MM4: Megabuster
MM5: Beat
MM6: Rush Armor
MM7: Items/Inventory System
...and so forth.
It'd be really interesting to see a Megaman prior to the X series where Dr. Light starts investigating the idea of armor -- and Megaman could have exchangeable sets of armor (maybe each "weapon" is an exchangeable buster add-on, and various armors can be equipped -- Rush armor for flight, beat armor for power or something... Who knows). Make it very... I guess Castlevania-esque with equipment, etc.
Just my five cents if they want to be making something "nostalgic" in the original Mega-verse so to say, haha.

Unfortunately other platforms have yet to be confirmed by Capcom.

... I just wet myself.
Fucking amazing. This is why I'm glad Inti Creates took over Mega Man. I wonder if they're going all-out original Mega Man style, though, since a lot of the games of late have been heavily dialogue-driven (see: Zero games, ZX games).

...Wow that looks great. Although more up-to-date graphics would be nice, I am glad that this is being done in 100% classic, original Megaman style.
Hopefully this will become so good they will continue even more from there.
