Is posting weekly about minor progress too much? By minor, I mean something like tweaking a menu screen.
If it is too much, I could just make it a private profile, right?

What you could do is make a "What I'm working on" blog, or even an additional page to your gamepage and edit it when you've made progress instead of constantly creating new blogs about small things.
I wouldn't make a new blog if there's barely anything to report. If it's something you want feedback on, then it may be worthwhile, unless it's something you could take to the screenshot thread for the same result.
If you're worried about not having anything substantial to post about, then try this: set yourself a goal for each week. Pick something and try to have it done in time so you have something worth mentioning. If you don't make it, save it for next time. That way you'll have motivation to to keep at it and your blogs will be more substantial.

Don't do this: http://rpgmaker.net/games/4780/blog/10529/
Blog when you have something worth blogging about.

Updating a single post seems like a good solution if what I was doing was too minor. Didn't know that was possible.
@kentona
I actually did come across that earlier today when looking at other people's blogs. It was interesting.

Ahaha... That wasn't really the sort of thing I was worrying about. If I had nothing to write about, I definitely wouldn't post about it.
I've been keeping video records for mostly personal reasons, but I've been wanting to write about the updates as well.
For example, I wasn't sure if making these changes to this menu would be enough to warrant a blog post about a week later.

Best thing is to usually make a blog post once a week or whenever you happen to have anything significant to post, like a brand new screenshot, gameplay video, trailer, release date, and so on.
Same deal applies when your game(s) are finished or in a demo state; only upload a new blog post if it's a major announcement about a possible sequel / prequel, your game got featured / spotlighted on RMN or if you request some feedback for your game if you haven’t received much in terms of views and comments about it after around a month or two, etc.
Just don't be an attention whore - like I used to be.

I'm sorry, but this annoys me.
As for when to post, post when you feel you have something that would interest your potential players, not when you feel like you need to bump the game.
