THE WORKING WORLD

Well, I officially want some income now and intend on applying at Wal-Mart soon. Yeah, not the most luxurious place in the world but that's ok with me. It has some pretty good benefits such as 10% off of anything that isn't food, and the ability to transfer to different Wal-Mart's with all of your time included so that if I get a raise, it'll still be in affect if I transfer (I go to college in 2 years, so it'll be handy if I choose to stay). So what I'd like to know is what Jobs you guys had first, how you felt when working there, past experiences, wisdom you'd like to pass on to me, things like that.
I was really nervous about getting my first job, I didn't know what to expect. I work in a Pet Shop and I love it, theres a girl my age who works there too and she's HAWT!

Any wisdom?... Try not to drop a Dog Cage on your managers foot on the first day and you'll be just fine.
As long as your job interview went like this, you'll be fine.

My first job was at Wal-Mart. I started out as a sales associate when I was 17, working in the Toy department during the holidays for $5.65. It was actually a pretty good deal, because in retail you get to avoid the disaster fast food environment, and, even though retail totally sucks, as a kid working nights you don't have to worry about anything. Wal-Mart is great for school kids because of the decent wage for entry level folks and flexible hours. Solid choice.

What Wal-Mart are you thinking of applying at? If you have any questions about them, I can help you out.

First job was at wal-mart. Worked on the sales floor making 6 bucks an hour. It really was the easiest job ever, and as Holb said, perfect for a high school kid.

Of course, for about the last 5 years, I wouldn't have applied to Walmart unless someone put a gun to my head. I have been promoted from retail, and thank God for that.

$10 says I got paid more at Wal-Mart last year than your "promotion". :D
My first job was at a pizza place as a fry cook getting paid $6.00 under the table. Some nights the place would get really busy and the job could be slightly hard keeping up with the massive orders of wings, but it was fun and I liked it.

Now I "work" as a musician.

Natook, actually I know quite a few managers from southern Missouri. Many of them came to my home state of Iowa when they got done training (because they had nowhere to go in Missouri), and transferred back there later on when there was an opening.
My first job ever was working in Mcdonalds from age 16 to age 19. I earned about $10.00 an hour and eventually worked my way up to being a crew trainer there which was a pretty difficult task. From there i went to working in a restaurant being trained and doing shitty jobs such as washing dishes and peeling potatoes etc. After working very hard there i worked my way up to Head Chef and then finally to restaurant manager in which i am now.

My first job was at Jumbo Video. The boss who ran it was a dick. He'd recycle popcorn for three days and the left overs after that would get bagged to be sold as "to go" movie popcorn. The place was run tight fisted, over-pricing everything, and never lowering the rental cost of old video games.
The job was fine, except for the stress of his damn video camera that he'd sit in his office all morning watching, then quiz me as to why I took a break at such and such a time.
Eventually, if you're stuck in this situation follow suit with me. Put him in his place when the store is full of impatient customers and quit. He'll be fucked, hate your guts, and you'll feel the world better. It's minus one reference on your resume, but people like that are the worst thing on a resume.

Contrarywise, don't do this at every job you leave. Hahaha, that ends up being a bad idea.

When youre in high school and the jobs you likely do aren't big-time stuff, you can afford to tell off your boss. Lamentably, old people can't do that.

Yeah, i know how fun it is. Before i began working in a restaurant i actually worked in the local video store. The managers there were complete asses. They would cut down your money, break time and wouldn't even give you a discount on renting/buying dvds and games etc. One night i was working there a huge lined formed from the counter and nearly out the door. My manager was naturally screaming his head off at me. I eventually got sick of him, told him to piss off and left him there all by himself with a huge crowd.
My first job was at a Canadian Tire(think wallmart but with a more sporty/macho theme) during night shift,It was fun but I barely got to see the sun cause I had to sleep during the day in order to stay awake for work... :(

True, if I told the people here off, I'd be effed in the a. Lose all my flight benefits and stuff. :( If anything, I'd just try and get a part-time shift and work somewhere else. Losing a real job due to immature anger would suck ass.
First job was doing demolition. I was doing martial arts at the time, so I used that to break down walls and stuff with my fists and feet... Was very soothing and nice.
