Thanks Anky~ Dat hover is just so... purdy. ;^; You do good work, boyo~ ^.^

I like the general idea of the page layout Kentona showed. It looks neat, I like the idea of pictures/hover text info and tabbed window.

I'm gonna push again for new/random screenshots to be a bit bigger and have a slideshow instead of tiny pics. This way details are easier to see and if there's any hover text it can be read and not cut off if it's too long.

@Link_2112
One thing about putting blogs higher on the page - please no. Weight-wise they shouldn't be higher up for various reasons:
- Putting them in precedence would encourage more blog spammage and worse blog practices just to get advertising on the front page.

- Other written information is more content heavy so deserves to be seen more than blogs. That is, the information, length and such is actually checked by someone so they've more quality control - hence, more deserving of being shown off.

- Blogs are inherently personal pieces, not for everyone. They focus only on the games they're written about, not on external information like scripts, articles and the like.

- They're in constant flux so having them on the main page at all is rather questionable, imo. They're more for those who have already subscribed to a game than people who haven't.

- Due to the constant flux, it's very likely that being on the front page doesn't do much to help as none really stay on there for long enough to really be seen. Rather like images, except that images tend to draw people in to check games.

- Does anyone even check them from the front page? Especially when there's already a sub-heading devoted to them from the Game Portal.

I do propose a change to them, though, in order to make them better and more relevant. Perhaps something like a Best of Blogs spot that gets changed each week or certain days? That way the best ones get to the front page (encouraging good blog use and practices) and also have some quality control applied to them in some form.

Yes, I want to be like both (kentona and ankylo) of them if I ever grow up!

I wholeheartedly agree with Libby on the first two points and her proposal. Regarding checking them from the front page, I actually do check them from there. I have never accessed them from the Blog option under the Games portal. Having the most recent blogs visible does help me follow some games that I'm on the fence about whether to subscribe to them or not ...
There a glitch. When I received a notice and did not read it or anything and move to another link. my notice has disappeared. as in from Notice(1) to Notice. Even if I didn't click on it.

For my own part, I look at Notices first thing. If it's blinking, that is. Though, I can attest that unless I get more than a page of notices, they all appear marked as "already read", and even then, the first page is marked as "already read" even if whatever remainder exists is is not marked as such. Sure, I can open the Notices window in a new tab, and keep track of how many notices I had that way, but it's a little unintuitive. I dunno. I guess it's not that bad, considering.

Still the preview text is still overlapping.
that is the only problem.
You must not have done it right then. It is working just fine. Unless it's your browser. I'm using FF.

About kentona's mockup, there are some good changes but a few not so good ones.

Putting the Classic and Event spotlights all the way at the bottom seems like a strange choice. Why did you do that anyways? You had 4 of the same things at the top, and now there's 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom? They look lonely and out of place.

Having the What's Written in the middle like that seems kinda odd. It seems like What's Written and What's Buzzing are a pair, so they should be put together in a more balanced way.

What exactly is Artwork? Like pic of the moment but for non game pics? I do like how those are lined up.

Maybe put Latest Blogs higher up? Since they cycle through more often?

I think the Latest Downloads section should be instantly visible and higher up on the page. Or least have priority over Highly Rated. I usually ignore Highly Rated, but I'm always interested to see new downloads. Even more than buzzing games or new and notable. Sometimes that's my only way of knowing when a game I want to play is released. (I don't subscribe to every game I want to play because I hate endless notices about stupid crap when all I want to know is when the download is available. Is there a way to subscribe to that information only?)

I like the new thumbnails for games. Fitting more in those sections is a good idea.
I've always felt that the 4 in a row felt a little overwhelming. :\ I moved them to the bottom in the "game spotlights" section

What's Written and What's Buzzing are different things. Written is the Featured Writing (articles mostly, but also reviews and blogs), and Buzzing is just news.

Artwork is something I made up on the fly because I move the Writing stuff together into one spot. I am open to suggestions, but I was just thinking concept art and promo art and the like, while making POTM more focused on in-game mapping and whatnot.

I split the game sections with the Writing in the middle because this is a mockup and wanted to see if splitting it up helped preventing it from being overwhelming from games. I would probably move it below the games.

And yeah, I would group the game sections into Buzzing/Latest and New&Notable/HighRated. I am leaning towards tabs of 12 games each.

EDIT: blogs change too fast for me to track manually with a best of blogs idea. I would have to have something more automatic. Buzzing blogs on the blog page goes with most posts from blogs made in the past 2 or 3 weeks.
No complaints about the updates! Good job, guys.
I was thinking more a manual picking of the best blogs, but I guess we could always bring back This Week in Blogs or something instead. >.<;
Okay, so when I click Notices the way we used to do it, it shows the next page with everything marked as read (or the unread notices aren't highlighted anymore). Am I doing something wrong?

I don't think I made a change to that, isn't that how it always worked?
Previously I would click Notices, and if I had 2 unread notices, the 2 top notices would be bold. Now it just shows them all with normal font, new or not.

Is "Mark All as Read" now getting tagged somewhere in the code when I click Notices or something?
And am I the only one having this problem? :(

No, it does this for me as well. I'll take a look at it when I get home. I might have changed something here but didn't realize it.
It seems to be back to normal again. Thanks, ankylo.

I didn't make any changes, in fact, the last time I made a change to the code that is run when you view your notice inbox was back in November 2012. What could have happened is that you moused over the notices in the hover menu and then clicked on the "Notices" menu, that would mean you have no unread notices (unless you have more than 10 unread notices, because the hover menu only shows up to 10).

I know that's what you were thinking, and I was saying that I can't maintain that.

And before you say "oh BUT I'LL SUGGEST THINGS ALL THE TEIM!" take a gander at these threads and take note of the dates that the last suggestions were made:
http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/9315/
http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/11626/
http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/11713/
also take note at how infrequently Deckiller updates the POTM, and so far the only person who has regularly made suggestions for the Discussion Topics on the Dev Portal has been LockeZ (he's a cool dude because of it). Discussion Topics can include blogs, but no one suggests them for that.

So yeah, a "best blogs" feature on the frontpage is very unlikely to ever happen.

I'm sure these updates'll be coo'. Looking forward to them.

Also this is the only Pokemon-related thing I'll ever need

Noooo, that's not what you need.

I'm sure you guys have seen Too Cute on Animal Planet.

Nah, I was wrong. It's still happening. I don't know what I did to get it working right this morning.
Anyway, if this is only happening to me, don't trouble yourself over a fix. I can live with remembering X Notices, and simply counting down the list.

A little counterargument here. >.<! ...If someone were to keep an eye on blogs, your first point wouldn't even be an issue. It takes like five minutes to check on blogs everyday. As for content, it depends. Some blogs are pretty content heavy, while some reviews are very lacking; Even worse, some are a lot of padding with no real meat to them... Also, (good) blogs can generate lots of interest. Screenshots are more accessible, yes, but blogs shed light on the thought-process behind a game.

I really like your suggestion about featuring only the best blogs on the frontpage, though. If anything, that's what the frontpage should be for, and that idea should be extended to reviews, articles, etc. But that still has to adress Link's concern about their placement on the page. I support blogs should be placed higher up on virtue of them cycling more often.

@Kentona: You always complain you have no time, no staff, but you never do anything about it... So, why not let Liberty do it? You already trust her enough to be a mod so why not give her a more active role on the site? She knows a lot about good writing, and has a good grasp of what the standards on this place should be. I can't think of anyone better for the job (Except for me, of course *wink*).

Alternatively, device a more efficient way for people to suggest stuff. Nobody wants to go back to a forum thread and paste a bunch of links on a regular basis. Something like the 'report' button, but without the hassle of having to send a PM to the entire staff.

Yeah, I'm with alterego about Libby handling a This Week in Blogs, if she's willing.
How about people step up with the tools and options available to them now, instead of me handing out jobs and responsibilities de facto?
