So, in case anyone reading this does not remember me....I know nothing about making games :)
I play a lot of games, MOSTLY, from RMN.
I'm really just curious.
It seems a lot of games made with RMN 2-3000 use what I like to think of as the energy bar. The one that fills up before my warrior can attack.
I sit and fidget waiting for it to fill up. Sometimes I sit and tap the action/enter key just waiting for it to fill up so I can attack or use magic.
It's very unnerving :)
Why do some game creators use that energy in their games ???
Seems it would be more fun to get into the action :)
Thank you for helping to enlighten me :)

The ATB bar of RPG Maker 2K3? That's part of the built-in combat engine. As such, I seriously doubt there is a way to disable it outright. Make it more efficient? Maybe, but I really wouldn't know how to do that.

This.
By the way what is with the title of this thread?
It's a timer that is directly based on your AGILITY stat. The faster your character is, the faster that bar fills up. So faster characters get more turns. Also you can cast HASTE and SLOW spells to affect that timer. It's meant to mimic the function from games like Final Fantasy 5, but it was terribly implemented in RPG maker. The fastest characters bar goes at normal speed, and everybody else's slows down to keep it relative.
There are patches that can fix it, but most people don't know about them. And most older games were made before the patches were created or widely known. In most cases you can apply the patch to any game you download to fix the slowness of the bar.
I believe there is a patch that removes the waiting and makes the game completely turn based.

Thank you Marrend for responding, I hope you got to see the post of Link_2112, it interesting and may even help you :)
@Ratty, as for the title, it was a joke. I love the games but never got any schooling to learn how to make computer games and a little to old start know :)
By the way, what does This mean. Did you try to put in some info that does not appear ???
oh Link, you make my mouth water for a patch :) but you did not tell me where to find it :(
Thank you for all the information you were able to enlighten me with :)

However, this is geared towards the developer of the game, not players. They are meant to pick an variable in the game to use as a speed value, and DynRPG has to be applied to the game first before this patch can work.
I applied this patch myself to Generica and Generica: TNG, so if you wanted to see the difference you can download those games and check them out.

Well, with your approximate knowledge and since your the boss of bosses for this game site....could you please tell those who use that game engine that I have requested they begin using that patch ??? Thank you :) :) :)
Thanks kentona, I wonder as Link_2112 said, if they all know about that and just create their games in a way to frustrate me :(
I hope everyone knows some of my postings are in jest :)

He quoted the person above him and said "This", as if to say "I agree with this statement".
There is more than one patch for that. I'll see what I can find.
http://rpgmaker.net/engines/rm2k3/utilities/3/ - this is the first one that came to mind. It speeds up everything in battle which is okay most of the time. Maybe take it out when you are on a boss.
http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/10554/?post=352240#post352240 - it requires DynRPG(which is easy to patch), and it seems like this one takes less effort to apply to someone else's game because it doesn't seem to rely on the dev using a variable. It's just a dll you add that speeds up the ATB. I've never tried it myself, so I don't know how it works.
The only thing about DynRPG is that it can have negative effects on other areas of the game. So there is no perfect solution. Pick your poison.

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

author=LinkisVery few RPG Maker 2003 games use DynRPG, because what DynRPG does is let developers add custom code to the game engine by patching the game engine. But the reason most people use RPG Maker 2003 in the first place is because they don't want to deal with code, scripts, or complicated setup.
Thanks kentona, I wonder as Link_2112 said, if they all know about that and just create their games in a way to frustrate me :(
I apologize for the lazyiness of my 2004 self.
Using DynRPG plugins doesn't usually involve dealing with complicated anything. There's a few extra steps, but they aren't complicated.
I'd say very few people use DynRPG because they don't even know it exists.

OMG Link, after all the time we spent pushing his head in the toilet, LockZ has finally admitted his guilt "I apologize for the lazyiness of my 2004 self".
It's all right LockeZ, it seems to be mostly me :(
Just hate to wait for the bar to fill up....like on a Friday night in the old days, the girls did not show up till midnight :(
Thank you for everyone pitching in to educate me, I really appreciate it.

To bitch is slang for to complain. It's used playfully here, hence the smiley face.
...The older generation must use it more often than the new generation.
I know very little about gam mak, but I think RPGMaker200X was trying to address this issue as well. I think most of what was changed is still available on here somewhere, but the head dev (don't remember who it is off the top of my head) moved on to other projects.
