Who is guaranteed to walk away this year with at least one award?

This would have been easier to come up with a list if there was some way to search for games released just this year. I put games up that have received a lot of buzz this year and I think have a good chance to win.
I'm predicting Fey or Phantom Legacy will take the cup.

Other contenders are: Rust and Blood, Suzy and freedom, Labyrinthine Dreams, The Drop, The God of Crawling Eyes, Happy Birthday, Enelysion.

Most promising demo: Blood Shard or BoutallesTogether.

Edit: Actually, Reincarnation will probably take the demo category due to its sheer popularity, though it's debatable whether it should.

I've not played any of those games, so naturally Homework Salesman will win.
If Homework Salesman wins simply because people are ignorant of the other entries, I think that would be a shame. I encourage people to go out and at least play a few popular or well-reviewed titles rather than just simply voting the only game they've played out of ignorance.

I dislike this poll. It provides limited options.

Pom Gets Wifi has its charm, but honestly seeing that get anything more than the arse-load of downloads and LP Celebrity recognition would be an embarrassment. The game itself isn't bad, but it's not good either.

I have yet to play The Grumpy Knight, but I kind of want to.

Same with Homework Salesmen

Reincarnation only impressed me with its EXCELLENT presentation and its demonstration of potential. Otherwise, there is nothing about its gameplay that really stands out to me, but I'm sure it'll win something.

... and I haven't played Skinwalker.

In other words welp I have a lot of games I need to try out. :x

I think it's excellent for this community's purposes

by which I mean most people who participate in the misaos don't actually play games but follow the trends of whatever's getting the most buzz at the time
I really recommend playing the three you've yet to try, Ratty.
Grumpy Knight has great characterisation and is pretty funny. The battles are more bosses to overcome than random encounters, too, so that's a plus. There's also different endings and an achievement list which is nice.

Homework Salesman is really neat. The systems work well together and the mapping/graphics/characters are all well done, too. It's an interesting take on RPG Sim genre.

Skinwalker is pretty interesting, too. It kinda made me a bit... well, it's hard to describe. The graphics are quite pretty and the mapping is a bit different to the usual. Character-wise, it's decent and the creep-fest is well done. For a horror genre it's hits the targets pretty well.

Pom... I can understand why people like the game but I call bullshit on it being the best game on the site released this year. :X I has opinions. Punch a dick.

Reincarnation is really well-polished and very, very pretty. A lot of hard work went into presentation, style, systems and character dialogue/personality. I think it's definitely one of the better games released this year. Whether or not it's THE game of the year... well, we'll see.

I agree with Ratty on this. As tbg pointed out, there are many other options that weren't considered. I personally predict no single game will take more than half of the Misaos this time around.
I was actually waiting for a topic like this. But I was thinking more along the lines of everyone posts games that they think are underrated and should win certain awards. Firstly, it provides exposure to games that deserve attention. Secondly, it informs peoples' opinion to make the Misaos as democratic a process as possible. I would have created such a thread but I didn't know if kentona would be making one like last year. So I didn't. But I still think it'd be useful.

So why don't you? I think it's a good counterpoint to the overexposed games ... It'd give people a chance to play, nominate and vote for the overlooked games.

Also, I think kentona could help us be democratic by posting the list of games released this year soon so we can get a better view of who the potential award candidates are, as he has before ...

I have a huge contention for favorite demo of the year. It's up between Sorceress Quest, StarFront - Factions, and Ghost Shards.

Game of the year? I'm pretty sure the only "completed" game I've played was Horde of UnDeath. I, uh, don't really see that happening, though!
I'm pretty sure there's a list somewhere on the forum already, though it might not be up to date. I'll have a look around. I'm sure Kentona or Decky were keeping one somewhere.

EDIT: Of course, when I'm looking for it I can't find the damn thing. >.<;
Reincarnation for sure. It's so pretty it's almost guaranteed to get the graphics award. I voted for most of the others in other categories though so I'm crossing my fingers for all of them!
Oh, I haven't kept track of games released for while now, since you guys never seemed to appreciate it. (remember I used to do a quarterly article about it? you know, the ones where I'd post them then no one would comment on them?)

I think last year I just ran a query to grab all the games released in that calendar year and posted it sometime in mid-December. I can do that again I guess.

Yeah! Where’s Super RMN World, Suzy And Freedom, Fey, Phantom Legacy, Ankharia, Vorlorn, The Drop!? Especially Super RMN World (supposedly the greatest Super RMN Bros. game to date). ^^

I did finish all my Misao picks a few days ago, barring anything extremely noteworthy that catches my eye from now ‘till then, but here are my two cents:

  • There’s no doubt that all eyes will be on Pom Get Wi-Fi by year’s end, especially due to its overwhelming popularity (now at over 100 000 downloads+). While it deserves to snag a Misao or two for all its accomplishments, it will be interesting to say the least. My only fear is all the people who signed up to RMN just for Pom will vote for it in almost every category and it will absolutely destroy everything else, winning every single Misao. If so, the Misaos this year will be a complete disaster. Hopefully, that won’t happen. Pom Gets Wi-Fi was definitely a good game, definitely in the top 10 this year but it’s far from being the best.

  • The Grumpy Knight is a good one, definitely has a pretty good chance to pick up something. I haven’t played it yet, nor did I vote for it for a Misao, but is has a remote shot.

  • Homework Salesman was definitely well crafted and is a pretty popular game. Same thing with The Grumpy Knight; it has a chance to pick up something, but probably has a better chance than The Grumpy Knight because of more relevance.

  • I’ll be just completely dumfounded if Reincarnation ~ Dawn Of War ~ doesn’t win anything, especially for the “Most Promising Demo”. If You Are Not A Hero never went commercial, then this would have been interesting. But because it didn't, Reincarnation should run away with at least one Misao.

  • And I haven’t played Skinwalker, sorry.

Should be very interesting to see what happens. As for the poll, I’ll vote for Pom, just because.
What I don't know is if the tens of thousands of people who played the game will have created accounts to nominate it for the misaos, let alone being around when voting starts in January.

Didn’t we use to have it where a user would need at least 50 posts before nominating games for Misaos? Or am I thinking of something else…?

You know that there will be riots if Pom overwhelmingly destroys everything and pooper scoopers every award, like, more than what Vacant Sky did in 2010, Master Of The Wind in 2011 and Star Stealing Prince in 2012…

W—Wait a minute…! If current trends repeats itself, then… Oh no… OH GWD NO!!! :O
(At least Corfaisus will provide us with some good entertainment on the subject, lol.)
well, if people would actually go out and cast their vote... then it wouldn't take like 37 votes to WIN IT ALL.

Well, regardless of what happens, at least it can’t get as bad as this:
