RECORDING WOES REVISITED

I know, I brought this up ages ago too, but I never really resolved it. For those who don't remember, I am having issues recording SNES games. Dxtory does not record ZSNES or SNESx9 correctly, and while Camstudio can record, it will only record the audio of the game or my mic, not both. I have actually tried with recording with both Camstudio (for in-game stuff) and Audacity (for my mic), which seems extremely inconvenient and unreliable, even moreso since Camstudio has a 2 GB video filesize limit. So my question is, is there a simpler method of recording SNES games that'll record both audio of the game AND mic without fear of having to worry about filesize limits? Or am I stuck having to use Camstudio (which I use XVid MPEG-4 Codec for) with Audacity??

I am really asking for help here, as I'm heavily wanting to LP Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem and some other games, but need to know what I can do to record mic and game audio. ;___;
In Camtasia studio you should be able to pick to record both on the same channel or each on different ones.

Hit the usual Record Screen button and wait for the li'l recording window to pop up. Under the Audio On arrow is the options area. Pick .camrec for recording type as .avi will merge both sound files. That's under the General tab. In Inputs tab there should be settings for your Audio. Check which choice picks up your microphone and click the record system audio square. That should pick up both. I find Front Mic works for me, though something else might work better for you.

That should work. Good luck~
Camtasia eh? I may give that a try if anything else. I have heard from a friend of mine that uses it that he has some weird issues with it for some reason. Does it have any filesize restriction like Camstudio does?

I did try out OBS and it seems like it can work too for recording videos. Though whether or not I can record them, then convert them in WMM is another story. ^^;;
It's best not to let a file get too large, even in the stablest video software.

I find that videos under an hour are fine most of the time (I keep to around 15-30 but going to about 45 is okay, too. It could be different for different RAM and video cards, not sure). That said, it has a heavy footprint so you can't have lots of programs going at the same time or a really system-intensive game, but you can edit and then upload all in the same software. Works well for RM games, and it's easy to mess around with to make things look flashy.

There's a free trial version that has most of the gadgets. It doesn't cost too much for a license (I got mine for about $50-$60 a few years ago) and it works for most aspects of recording and editing.

You can convert the files when finished editing into other file types like mp4 and avi, not sure about WMM, but if avi could be converted to that then it should work too, right?

Oh, also, for SNES roms, it can work but you have to adjust the screen a little bit afterward. I used a zoom-in command at the start of the file to zoom the picture in so that it looked full-screen (this is after recording) and it worked fine.
A lot of my videos from Dxtory tend to hit about 2-10 GB, depending, but I record lossless for the most part. It's the only real way to make it not seem laggy I think.

So yeah, I may have to try Camtasia...even though I don't like using Trials because of limited time and all that. No money to be spending on things like that to get the full version if I really wanted it. This video tells what the issues are, but for those who'd rather read:

With Dxtory, it records the audio fine, but the video comes out as garbage. This happens in SNESx9 as well (more like for some reason, Dxtory records the video, and the video is super tiny and in the top left corner of the screen).

With Camstudio, it will only either record the in-game audio or mic, and never both. With my old computer (which was XP), I didn't have this problem, though it did desync sometimes as you can see in my Valkyrie Profile videos. With this computer (which is a Vista), it won't do that so I'm wondering if it's a Vista problem there? In addition to that, if the filesize while recording goes over 2 GB, Camstudio will flatout not save it, and with SNES games for some reason, the filesizes tend to be huge (I am using Lagarith Lossless Codec and XVid MPEG-4 Codec so...).

With Retroarch, well...the video explains it far better. I have to use Audacity to work with this, but the way Retroarch records is the final video will always be 60 FPS, so Audacity will NEVER be synced up to the video ever...I COULD try Camstudio + Audacity, but there's still the issue of the 2 GB limit happening and/or desync with the audio with Camstudio too...

OBS I tried, but either it lags too much sometimes, or the file is saved as MPG4/ACC, and WMM doesn't like that. I can convert the files sure, but there shouldn't be any real reason to have to do so when recording videos, no? I mean, Dxtory (and originally Camstudio on my old computer) was simply Record, and then when you stop recording you have the video done, ready to go in Windows Movie Maker or whatever movie editing program you have.

So yeah, if anyone can help, please help! I want to get back to LPing SNES games eventually, and I REALLY REALLY want to LP Fire Emblem 3: Mystery of the Emblem for ya'll, even if I'm terrible at it. I know there are people that tell me to just play the game and not worry about LPing or recording videos, but I just don't feel like I'm having nearly as much fun doing so...
I don't think it has a timed trial, just that some things are locked. A bit like the Ace Lite engine. That's from what I remember, anyway. I may be wrong.

Um, just wondering why you need the .wmm file type? Is it for editing software? (Just that camtasia has the editing parts already in it so you don't really need it. It's very versatile with what it can do. Splicing in images/media, editing sounds, changing zoom, cutting and pasting, adding fade-in and outs, wipes, text, comments, even an in-engine voice recording so you can redub over parts that you might feel need it... the whole shebang.)
I'm used to recording videos with Dxtory, then converting them from AVI format into .WMV format via Windows Movie Maker is all. ^^;

I don't even know how to use Camtasia at all...it confuses me x_x;

Confusing? I don't know how's it's confusing, but it's basically just record, and then once it's done, the recorded file will go into the editor for you to edit the videos (yes, I use it in my office)... And you can use Camtasia standalone.

The only thing, though, is that Camtasia Studio is only a 30-day trial, so yeah... But that's what you get if you want a good-quality recording software.

There's of course also Fraps, but that has its limitations if you go for the free version...

More video recording softwares if you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xam2FPl1Pw8 (Two of them are already mentioned in this topic).
Yeah, I um...I was kinda looking in Camtasia Studio instead of the recorder is all lol...I need to figure out how to make the recorder work properly for me. But I have a full version of Camtasia now so there's that.
