Hello fellow aspiring game creators!
I've never actually introduced myself to a forum so this is a new experience for me. I suppose I will keep it brief and just say a few things about myself and my goals within this community.
I'm a father of twins (one year old today), a veteran of OEF 2011-2012, and your average blue collar 12-hours-a-day worker. Despite the things I have done I have never made the time to do what I have always wanted to do - tell stories, preferably through the medium of electronic entertainment.
Specifically, I want to tell the story of Arra, a fictional low-fantasy world that has been in my head since I was in 7th grade. What started as a short story for a project in school about a thief and a book has become a world with thousands of years of history, multiple characters and themes, and stories of love, loss, victory and defeat, often all at once. I do not seek to recruit others to do my work for me, but only to share that which I have crafted in the recesses of an overly active mind.
I have been procrastinating this for a long time but wish to no longer. I look forward to the discussions to be had, games to be shared, and friends to be made!

That actually sounds very interesting, to tell a story that has been developing in your mind since then. I can't wait to see the results, as this must be a well thought of story! Welcome to RMN and enjoy your stay! RPG Maker is a pretty decent starting game maker and it'll definitely fulfill your needs.
I recall back in maybe 8th grade having ideas to write a book about a band of ten or so adventurers and their trials and tribulations to acquire artifacts. I never got particularly far with it, but I have sensed some personality traits of Serena (a cleric-type person) in the character of Masako. As to who that is, well, that's another story!
Thank you for the kind welcome!

I am glad you find the basic premise interesting, Adon. I hope it lives up to your, an my, expectations! It will be a slow going process even with RPG Maker as the tool by which I present the tale as I work 12 hours a day, often 6 days a week, as well as (trying) to raise my 1 year old twins. I chose RPG Maker because it has a lot of built features that I don't have to code in my self. I took 2 semesters of programming and know how to code decently well. It's more of a time constraint than a lack of knowledge in the trade - but that is what excites me the most about RPG Maker. I can code in features atop those already programmed in! For my first project I do not intend to, as I am mostly familiarizing myself with the tool and introducing the world of Arra through a short story that preludes the prelude, so to speak. Setting up the characters, lore, and even villain.
@Marrend
I know all too well how those tales that began in our youth mature to something else, something more. Stories grow with us, learn with us, mature with us. When I started this tale of mine it was a story of a thief and her brother. They were lizard people.
Now, she is still a thief, a human(largely), and more importantly, a strong woman with much to offer to the plot. In fact she has become key to the resolution of the story. You might even call her the protagonist.
I would love to hear of Masako some time! Agh I need to go download something by this community, I can't wait to see not only what RPGMVXACE is capable of, but this community as well!

Do you really wanna know about Masako? There's a few options open to you. Obviously, there is this game, not to mention this blog. There are plans to put her in this game, but she's doesn't have an appearance in the current demo.
Alternatively, if you like visual novels, you can check out this game, and go to the "Finished Content" tab. She's last on the list.

Welcome to RMN! I don't know offhand what OEF stood for, so I used my googler device. The first result was Ontario Equestrian Federation and the second was Operation Enduring Freedom. I am going to guess you meant the second one. (The acronym is probably more obvious if you are an American).
I lost/threw out all of my old notes from games and stories I designed from grade 7 onwards (they were probably worse than I remember).
