Well, it looks like both here and in DeviantART you've choosen normal cutscenes + dialog mugshots.

Why not both? Experiment a bit, use images in really important scenes, for example. Images drawn with love can be rewards for the player, too. :)
If the first option is choosen, I would use images just for the very ending scenes, but just for that. And reward images don't suit my game.
I want to know what people thinks of all this. But I got more attention in DeviantART than here... ^^;

If this were me it would be no contest: first option. Assuming I even have face-sets to use for the "mugshots".

However, we are not talking about me. So, I'd say the second option. I mean, if you think you can do it, go for it!
Yeah, if you've got the resources, the first one is the one I'd go with pretty much every time. Just because it usually ends up looking nicer than just putting the name of the speaker in text box.
I have the resources to do so (I use SAI and Photoshop CS5 for all graphics. Everything is custom). I just need people to vote. ^^

I'm really fond of how Phantasy Star 4 did it with almost comic-like panels that would pop up as people talked. It was really unique and fun, but it would take a lot of work.
I also like how graphics in the Mario & Luigi series are made, but I'm just a beginner at this of making games, I can't do complicate stuff (at least not without help) ^^;

Aside from I'm not looking for something like that. ^^;

Then I'd stick with the Normal cutscenes and Dialog mugshots. That's the same thing I'm doing for my game, and I find it works pretty well :D
Well that's what people's used to do with their games here XD
