THE SADDEST DAY IN AMERICAN HISTORY

Shirley Temple, the child star that kept America smiling during the Depression died on Feb. 10th at the age of 85.
Franklin D. Roosevelt said, "As long as we have Shirley Temple, we'll be alright."
It should happen at a time when our president is defending the right assassinate U. S. citizens, claiming that we give up our Constitutional rights by speaking against the nation, that we lose our greatest citizen.

Other than being a child star what exactly did she do to apparently be your "greatest citizen"?
Also are you implying that this should be considered more upsetting to Americans than 9/11?
Who was phone?

Oh my, such hate. Forget I said anything. You might try this thing called Google. She's done a hell of a lot more than film, and I'm sure more than you. Oh well, not burdening you with anymore.
For a second I thought this was going to be another internet topic flaming Lightning Returns FFXIII.
But yeah, RIP. Sad passing :(

Wow, um, why the hate guys? I rather liked Shirley myself. She was a good child actress and her movies were a staple of my childhood. They bring back memories of my Great Grandfather and his house, full of interesting trinkets and an old black and white TV on which we'd watch Monty Python, Shirley Temple movies and many other great old shows.
I was kinda sad she died, and pretty shocked (considering I figured she'd died years ago already... >.<; ). But yeah, Rest in Peace Shirley. Thanks for the great movies and memories~

After doing some research I found out she was also an Ambassador for the American government in Ghanda and Czechoslovakia, one of the first prominent women to speak openly about breast cancer after getting a radical mastectomy (removal of one breast) and the first female Chief of Protocol of the United States.
She also "served on numerous boards of directors of large enterprises and organizations including The Walt Disney Company, Del Monte, Bank of America, the Bank of California, BANCAL Tri-State, Fireman's Fund Insurance, the United States Commission for UNESCO, the United Nations Association, and the National Wildlife Federation."
She did pretty alright I'd say. More than enough for her life to be praised and missed.

RIP Whitney Houtson, 11th February 2012.
Also wow, I could've sworn Shirley Temple was dead for years! RIP lady.
