So, I've been needing a new phone for a while. And an MP3 Player. And a camera. And GPS would be nice. So, I purchased the Apple iPhone today (I was one of the last people to get it -- a lot of people were pisssssssed!). So far, I'm really liking it. Anyone else go out this morning or plan on getting one in the near future?
No plans on getting it in the near future.
However, I did read up on an NES emulator for the iPhone. That would be totally rad.

No plans for getting one soon as well. Besides, I already have a phone. Although it would be nice to have everything together, I don't plan on getting one for a long time. By the time I actually think about getting one, it'll be 4G most likely. What are the specs/new features with the 3G? (Too lazy to load stuff with dial-up/googling it)
An NES emulator has already been done for the iTouch, it made me quite envious watching one of my friends play defender on it along with a few other games. Of course, NES on the iPhone would help too.

It's more or less the same, but has larger storage space.
The 3g network is useful for faster downloads and is the "3rd generation" network. EDGE was 2nd generation here in Houston. I'm unfortunately not really seeing 3g speeds everywhere -- or maybe I'm just not sure what 3g truthfully should be, as far as speed.
Another thing is built-in GPS. I was riding in a friends car and figuring out where we were in realtime. It was pretty sweet. Pointless though.
More or less though, it's combining a bunch of my old devices. I had an old cellphone that was dying, an old 2 MP camera (yes, I know it sucks -- and the iPhone 3g only has a 2MP as well), a dying MP3 player. This does all of that and for a pretty cheap little package (although the monthly service fees are slightly more expensive than prior... still not a bad deal.
One of the cool new features with the latest iPhone OS/Firmware is the App. Store. Go there to download/buy new programs. A few examples: one application determines your city/location by GPS and will let you play gambling slots (this is a free thing) and help you choose a location to eat. Shake the phone to pull the slots. Very Wii-esque. Went out to eat with friends tonight with this app. Another lets you see the location of your other friends who have 3g. So you could spy. Worried if you GF is cheating on you? Get her an iPhone and install that program. Then you can figure out if she's with that "friend" of hers who she keeps claiming is gay... Hahaha, but in all reality, it's just a very interesting phone/tool. Now, I'm always connected to the internet... and that may be a scary thing, haha.

Hahaha, that's awesome, WIP. You should join the Mac revolution and cease all RPG-making activities. Then you can download iRPG, the best tool for making RPGs. Hell, it'll even put them on the iPhone, iPod, iTouch, iBrator, and be capable of turning them into an MMORPG with the click of a button...
...but it won't run on Windows, Linux, or anything else, and the first day, nothing will work. But you'll get crazy fans who like it, even though it has flaws.

I have no planes in getting an iPhone.
However, I will be getting a 'free' (as it gets) iPod with the Mac I order this summer. Animation major is going to be expensive...

I don't see the need for flashy phones. I have the Verizon LG buy one get one free phone that is held together by duct tape and I can still play tetris fine god damnit.
I have an LG Voyager as my phone. It is hip and cool but it still isn't nerdy enough for me.
That LG looks nice, WIP.
Unfortunately, the new iPhone has a few problems with it. My 8gb fried last night and would constantly crash, miss calls, etc. I went to try to replace it today and had a shitload of problems trying to exchange it. Finally, I managed to upgrade to the white 16gb. Works a lot better and I'm really enjoying it.

Shit's too expensive for me. My Katana II fits me just o-ok and that's gonna be it for me for a while.
Ain't got that much money to spend on a phone of all things.

Not that much. Only $299. Pretty cheap compared to other phones and the like that run Windows Mobile. PDA's outside of the iPhone are getting cheaper though.
The only reason to have ever owned an Apple product was so you could play Oregon Trail back in the middle school days. Anything else has more style than substance, and more price tag than product.
Oregon Trail ... I use to play that game to name it after my teachers and watch them die.
As for the topic, no, I won't be purchasing an iPhone anytime soon! I will not purchase a cellphone that will cost me over a hundred dollars.

I'm not a big fan of Apple products but the anti-Apple partisanship is usually misguided. Mac OSX is stable (if impossible to use quickly) and most of their portable stuff generally works. Everything is wayyyy overpriced, though.
Also what is it with phones anyway? Do people actually NEED a random portable device that can do all kinds of crazy junk? Personally I'm still getting used to the fact that I can use a cell phone as a phone, and honestly probably wouldn't even have one if it wasn't basically required nowadays.

"Hardly does anything!" would be a great product tagline. I'd buy it.
So, apparently this phone was just released in Canada on Friday, and people are mad.
There are HUGE supply issues - Rogers (the carrier selling the iPhone) has very limited stock. The flagship store in downtown Toronto only had 100 iPhones total - most other places in Canada had less than 40 available. You HAVE to sign up for a 3 year plan to get an iPhone, AND, in some places, they were only selling the iPhone to new customers. Furthermore, the service plans works out to the second most expensive iPhone plan on the planet (only in Italy is it more expensive to have an iPhone) - and thats AFTER Rogers reduced the price significantly after huge consumer (and politcal!) pressure. And the current plan is only temporary - In September, the plan is nerfed to 400mb/month transfer limits.
Yeah, I'm not getting an iPhone.

Yeah, I'm not getting an iPhone.
