WOULD U PLAY AN FFX 2D MADE WITH RM2K3? (FIRST SCREENSHOT)
Posts
FFX is my favorite game and I think it would be cool to have a 2D version of this game. But I know alot of people hate fangames but I like them so I was wondering how eveybody would feel about this before i went to far. Well?
Only if it had the following changes:
-Replace Tidus with Terra from FF6
-Replace Rikku with Payne
-Replace Wakka with a Tonberry
-Replace Seymour with Golbez
-Replace all blitzballs with chickens

No.
I mean, let's be realistic here. Using RTP to remake FFX, the best you'd be able to do for the intro would look something like this:
Sure, people would understand what it's meant to be, but it still wouldn't do the original game justice.
EDIT: Is the blonde supposed to be Rikku?
This would probably be better as a VX Ace project, since there's a few scripts you can use (mostly notibly, CTB) that an FFX-based game could utilize. I might not be comfortable with said scripts, but they are out there.
Saying that, that map is not presenting your abilities in the best of lights. Look through the screenshot thread. I'm sure there's posts in there (Darigaaz, this freaking game, and it's height shenanigans.) that should give you a better idea of how to properly suggest differences in height.
Or, um, post in the aforementioned screenshot thread to get some advice?
*Edit: I dunno. Maybe it's possible to do CTB with 2K3, but it would probably require a Dyn plug-in. Which means you'll be needing some form of scripting either way. I know very little about this subject, so I'm not the one to ask.

this freaking game,
xD You win the award for randomly linking your own games to every situation
If you're going to make a fangame, I'd suggest doing something other than a remake of a game that a large percentage of your potential audience (most people frequenting RMN probably being RPG buffs) have already played.
A creative game designer might be able to do interesting things with the setting or characters, but Final Fantasy X was made with a huge team and budget, and copying it with a one-man team is probably impractical unless you're satisfied turning out a really half-assed rendition.

I would recommend at first to play around with RPG Maker, try to make some good-looking maps, and get a simple 1-2hr game working. Play around with cutscenes and the like, and come back with a little game for feedback. I think you need some practice above all else. But you'll get there! Don't fret.
Yeah, listen to benny - he speaks the truth. Even if your mapping and spriting skills were amazing, though, I can't say I'd really see the point. I don't think it'd be possible for it to come out as anything other than just an incredibly dumbed-down version.
In addition, anyone who hasn't played it and is even remotely interested will probably be snagging the HD version that just came out.

I remember the days of RM95 when I was trying to build a Legend of Zelda game followed by an FFVI sequel (tried to pull off side view battles using backgrounds lol). Then I played Crestfallen.
Fact is, it's going to take a couple of tries (maybe 3-5) before you actually start making anything somebody else besides yourself will enjoy.

While its not a horrible idea, it would be a no from me, especially considering FFX/X-2 HD Remaster just came out.
Now if you really worked on the graphics and you perhaps made a sequel to X-2 or something, that might be alright. I'm not sure I would encourage that though!

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

So from the screenshot I'm guessing this is sort of like the 2D remake of FF7 except with about 1% as much effort put into it?

That's rude.....but yeah pretty much.

Well my hope is that I will inspire OP to get off his lazy ass and make something more like 20% as good as the FF7 demake! Because seriously, doing 20% as well as that would still result in a pretty good game, one that's probably worth playing.
So, something which could be completed by a skilled game designer in about three years rather than fifteen?

Indeed!
I mean, I think that's the minimum amount of work I would want put into an actual remake of an FF game. But I would totally play it. FF10 was a good game, and if you truly did it justice, your 2D version would be a good game too.

Probably not.
Make something new! Flex your own creative muscle! I've already played FFX; why would I play it again like this? I'd rather play something original.
