Ship is short for Relationship. 'To ship' is to romantically couple two (or more) characters together, regardless of whether it's true to the story they feature in or not. Shipping is the act of doing so.
"I 'ship Harry and Hermione."
"I hate people 'shipping Harry with anyone other than Ginny."
For example, some people might 'ship Picard and Beverly as a possible canon romantic couple (that is, true to source), whilst others might 'ship Worf and Picard as romantic interests instead (backed up by various interactions between the two).
A very common 'ship in Star Trek is Spock and Kirk, due to the extreme closeness of the two characters.
Another very popular 'ship is Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson, though it's practically a canon relationship that was hidden due to time prejudice against homosexual couples.
Basically, if you've ever looked at two characters/people and said "I think x and y would be a great couple!" you've partaken in the act of 'shipping.
Users but if something else is interesting (site shipping? game ships? character ships?) go for it.

CaveDog x IvoryJones. They're not too active anymore, but boy they're pretty easy to ship. They're like THIS~
Unity x Liberty. This one contradicts the Decky one, but they could have a love triangle thing, right? Unity likes Libby clearly so I think it'd be pretty cute.
pianotm x Link. After their initial spatish thing in the What Are You Thinking About thread, their arguing convinced me it'd be a tumultous but love filled relationship. <3 (I think it was Link at least. Maybe it was someone else.)

I always thought 2k3 has this kind of "tsundere" thing going on with VX Ace. I view VX Ace as the male in this case, and the 2k3 as the "vastly superior" girl who apparently wants nothing to do with VX Ace but really, they love each other. Except 2k3 keeps kicking VX Ace's ass because VX Ace thinks he can beat 2k3 up because she's too old school. But she wins every time. One day they'll just confess their love for each other in an impassioned speech, and that hate will peel off to reveal some kind of friendship and kinship that you always knew was there all along.
As for user ships, don't be offended by these. I'm kinda new, but I love pairing people up ^_^
i also agree with archeia/rhyme, indra/scinaya, and i add my own: sailerius/hirei
I think Gourd_Clae's got something with the Liberty/unity interaction. unity's a hard worker and someone who is very into supporting people, so she also admires that aspect in Liberty. But it's like a from-afar admiration that generates a festering obsession that culminates in a huge exclamation at precisely the wrong time, much to a suprised Lib. ^_^
Arandomgamemaker and wildwes. Arandomgamemaker's got this kind of child-like innocence and so does wildwes, i think they're both cute people ^_^
i could be the person who has a secret crush on SnowOwl and is just providing good reviews to get with him. but he's completely oblivious. and i write in my diary every night about him, doodling owls in my sketchbook and looking at him at the opposite end of the classroom.
Edit: By the way, this statement in no way undermines the scoring of my reviews, it's just a metaphorical situation that my overly active imagination thought up. it has no parallels to real life, honestly! (resignated sweat drop)
