REMAKE THE ORIGINAL FINAL FANTASY...

The problem is, everyone has ideas of games we would like to see exist. We're all working to make those games a reality. So ideas for games aren't exactly something we're low on.
I like this thread because I've always wanted to do an FF1-type game with class-creation at the start, so this discussion is interesting. But I'm working on two games already. Most of us are already working on at least one. So its unlikely that you'll get takers. Even people with really big, awesome ideas generally have to make the game themselves, or at least do a lot of the work.

So you're not doing anything, you just want to tell other people what to do. Got it. Can someone lock the thread please?
Instead of making this unavailable to everyone, why don't you just take your attempt to create a flame war out of nothing to another thread.

I kinda thought that might be the case when I created the thread, just wanted to see if there was anyone interested.

Would people please quit badgering this fragile genius?
Thanks for the support, my friend, although I'm not as fragile as you may perceive. I'm not new to forums or the type of people that occasionally show up to do nothing but harass others. Unity has given me some good advice and I've found out that there are others that would be interested in this if I can make it a reality. =D

Why not make an original game instead of plagiarizing?
I hate, hate, hate when people say things like that. (not yet finished reading the topic, though)
EDIT: I don't think this is a wise topic, though.
If you don't want to pay $70 for RPG Making, acquire it from some other means, such as freeware alternatives. (there are a few)
It's either that or paying $700 for someone. And if you really want it that bad... It's really not that HARD. It's just time-consuming. So go and learn rpg maker :I
I kinda enjoy these kinds of threads every now and then. It keeps me entertained.
I like to imagine the thought process of these people as they shamelessly ask other people they don't even know for tens or hundreds of hours of work realising their brilliant ideas. I guess some of them are just ignorant of the amount of time required to make a game.
This one I enjoy especially, though. This one still kept going after being told the amount of time required to make a game. So its not ignorance. So what is it, then? Is he just that passionate about the idea? The question is, then, if he's so passionate, why won't he do it himself?
One possibility is a total disregard for anyones time but his own. I'd like to think that's not the case. So what, then?
Is he just really lazy?

You have a case of plank-eye, my friend. Do you really have nothing better to do with your time than to sit here and harass people who want to put out an idea? If you're discouraged by this thread's creator or course, why don't you take your attempt to create a flame war out of nothing to another thread. You are a sad, angry, desperately damaged individual if creating conflict out of nothing but a simple question is your idea of entertainment.

I have looked a little, but couldn't find any freeware that had the ease of use of RPG Maker. Did you have a particular one you have seen used or have used yourself and would suggest? I have no opposition to learning how to use one of these programs, and have been playing with the lite version of RPG Maker VX Ace for a few days.
My suggestion would be to learn RPG Maker VX Ace and create a couple of quick games. Then decide what you would like to make. Attempting to remake the original Final Fantasy is such a huge job that it may be out of reach to those who are inexperienced. I'd suggest you start by creating a simple RPG to gain experience, then you can start thinking about things like creating an entire Final Fantasy game.

I believe there's already been a remake of Final Fantasy 1 for the RM2k3. I tried looking for a working download but came up empty. Perhaps someone around here still has it?
Then again, I'm not sure if it contained the entirety of Final Fantasy 1 or just everything up to the bridge after fighting Garland.

Alright firstly, please do not double post. Instead, edit your previous post with extra content. It's against site rules, so please keep this in mind.
Secondly, RMN is a bit different to other forums as we do allow people to say what they think within certain parameters. In this case, you're being a little touchy about criticism to your idea. It's fine to be protective, but do keep in mind that getting upset over someone else's opinion is silly, especially when they're asking for clarification and have reason to ask such.
This is an odd but interesting idea. It'd be sort of like commissioning a picture except in this case, you're asking for someone to create a game on your behalf. The problem with this, though, is that:
- people aren't likely to create projects when they already have their own that they want to create, especially of a game that already exists.
- it takes time to create games - a lot of time - and even if you have everything planned out it is still a big thing to sink time into. Not everyone has that time and those who do usually spend it on their own passion - their own games.
- the game already exists. Granted, not with the edits you're after, but it still exists and people are less likely to create something that already is there.
- no-one gives something for nothing. If you want a game created to your specifics then more often than not you'll need to offer incentive for it. Monetary reward is usually a good idea.

I'm sure there was one too. Sorry mate, but this isn't exactly a new idea. And as for your remarks to SnowOwl, he's got loads of games under his belt so I think he'd know how massive of an undertaking one is, particularly a huge game with hundreds of assets.
Maybe you could get VX Ace Lite, and try using it to go up to the first Garland fight? Heck, I dunno.
*Edit: That's about how far I've ever gotten into FF1!

I probably have enough skill in RPG Maker VX Ace to do this, but as others said: Why would I? This sort of project would take at least a year to complete, if not more. Getting all the sprites, tilesets, and equipment together could take a month by itself. Setting up the combat system would take two or three months (And it wouldn't be exactly the same.) With all the amount of time you would put into this I think making a fan game would be much better than making a remake. And because this wasn't my idea where would I find the motivation to complete it. I find if I'm not having fun doing a project that I tend not to want to finish it. This project would just take too much time investment and little payback.

the $70 for the program. Doesn't seem like much until you have to provide for a family.
www.rpgtoolkit.net
Its free and quite powerful. Its just not as user friendly as rpgmaker or have as much resources available to it(Although you will be using FF1 rips anyway) your only problem now is coding.

C'mon, isn't that the dream of any game designer? Having a bunch of people doing exactly as you tell them while you can focus on creating the ideas?
But as I say in every single thread where a person wants to remake an FF game: If you have the potential to recreate FF, why not just make a new game that is just as good?

I'm looking for someone who knows how to use RPGmaker to help me create a remake of the original final fantasy. I have all the concepts, I just need someone who knows how to use the program and can make this happen. Not just updated graphics and some bonus dungeons like Square/Enix did. I'm looking to do the following:
!!! Change the Character concepts, progression and look
-All 4 characters start as a generic class and choose their "starting class" after defeating garland
-Have fewer "starting classes" and have multiple choices for each class when they get their level advancement
-Change their level progression in terms of HP and MP so that they max out at 9999 HP and 999 MP like the majority of the following Final Fantasies
-Create unique combat abilities for each endgame class
-Ability to choose the gender and look of the characters when generating your party
-non-combat sprites would be larger and more detailed
-combat and non-combat sprites would change with equipment
!!! Item Changes
-add more useful and greater quantity of items that are usable in combat
-change items in chests to be more useful
-add a larger variety of weapons and armor
-add an accessory slot to the characters' equipment
-change the item type of certain types of equipment to match the accessory slot
!!! Change the magic system
-change combat enhancement spells (haste, etc.) to be appropriate for the ATB combat system
-change many of the combat enhancement spells to be far more useful. For example: invisible would make the character impossible to hit physically, but take extra damage from magic (like the final fantasy 6 spell)
-update spell names
-change the way magic damage, healing or effectiveness is calculated to be more proportionate to level progression
-Eliminate multiple levels of spells (fire --> fira --> firaga or invis --> invisara) in favor of a more effective magic power system.
-make quake into a damage spell instead of a whole-party instant kill spell
!!! Slightly change combat system
-change combat to use an ATB system and not be totally turn-based
-change the way certain status ailments work (make blindness more effective, awake from sleep when struck, etc.)
-remove instant kill and stone attacks as a part of a normal physical attacks for certain enemies and make spells or special abilities available to those enemies to have the same effect (pyrolisk, mindflayer)
!!! Map/story changes
-eliminate the bonus dungeons and put many of those bosses into the main storyline dungeons
-make some dungeons larger and/or have more floors
-decrease the number of set encounters in front of chests
-change the contents of many of the treasure chests to be more useful
-make the next destination in the storyline more obvious
Certain of these would be improvements, others would essentially make the game not a Final Fantasy, but a knockoff (or simply screw up the game balance in undesirable ways). For instance, removing tiers of magic is something the Final Fantasy series doesn't do. I've marked the former in blue and the latter in red. Everything that's sort of in-between is colorless.
