Remember when you were a kid all the scary movies you watched. They may have been scary back then, but when I watch some of these now I just can't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of them. Is this a result of me getting older or from scary movies being much different than they used to be.

Here is an old classic you may remember.

Well, here is a movie that once gave me nightmares and to this day, still creeps me out:

I can't think of any ridiculous horror movies, but I mean, in the vast collection of horror movies there isn't much that's notable. I'll just list all the good old scary movies that I watched. Some of these may not be conventionally scary, but they might still be good movies with horror elements attached.

In no particular order:
Psycho - this is like the classic horror movie
The Shining - love Jack Nicholson in this
The Thing (1982)
Jaws - wasn't even that scary because of effects but I bet in the day it was
The Birds - this freaked me out quite a bit

I can't even think of any more old ones, so here's some new ones that people might find interesting:
Let The Right One In - not scary but quite unsettling
Saw - this one ends nicely
28 Days Later.../28 Weeks Later - I have this secret desire to see a recent zombie film done right and this is the closest thing to it
The Others - again, nice ending
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil - the entire concept to this is hilarious. it's a very underrated film. not exactly horror, but definitely a loving homage to horror
Sweeney Todd - not horror. but very gory and gothic.
The Descent - HOLY CRAP I ALMOST FORGOT THIS, this is amazing horror film, one of the best. gory and full of suspense
The Mist - that ending tho
The Cabin in the Woods - this mind fcuked me to neverland
Oh wow, The Descent. Probably the only horror movie in recent years to actually scare me. Not really relevant to the thread I guess, since it's kinda newish, but I just wanted to say that since it was mentioned.
I love a good horror film. Top 6(66):
-The Shining
-Don't Look Now
-Antichrist
-Black Christmas (the original version)
-Halloween (also the original)
-The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (again, the original...they should really stop with the fucking remakes)

Antichrist is the only fairly recent one. I think it's pretty clear that I like films from the 70s. Seriously, though, if you're a horror buff, those are all must watches. I can never get anyone to watch Don't Look Now, but it had the single most frightening moment I've ever felt watching a horror film, and I was an adult when I saw it.

Edit: Shit, pianotm, forgot about Alien. That's a definite must watch, too.

I have heard so much about Don't Look Now. But unfortunately I've had the ending spoiled for me somehow. I just remember the ending even though I don't know the whole movie. But I think I'll watch it anyway, so that the ending makes sense. I don't know what it is about me, I always get the endings spoiled.
Night of the Hunter (1955) has a great atmosphere, such an intense movie, even if you could say it's less straight-up horror than most of the movies mentioned in this thread. And for an old black/white movie it was exquisitely beautifully filmed as well, one of those movies that sticks in your head long after you see it.

The ending doesn't really make sense, even in context.

I'm usually not scared or creeped out by movies. Probably because most "horror" movies that are well known (and thusly easy to find and watch) are just thrillers with lots of special effects.

The only two movies that come to my mind are What Lies Beneath (If you haven't seen this, and want to watch it, PLEASE don't look at the Wikipedia page. Some nutjob decided to casually mention the biggest spoiler on the page as a production credit.) and The Shining.

Other horror movies that were cool, but not scary/creepy were Pumpkinhead, Trackman, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness and uh... Boy, that's it.

Which part about the ending didn't make sense (please use spoiler tags)? I thought it made perfect sense.
This scene still feels horribly wrong to me even today.

@Pizza: Forgot about What Lies Beneath. The movie that did for baths what Psycho did for showers.

Edit: Army of Darkness has enough cheese in it for a pizza parlor. Love it though.

@Housekeeping: Yeah, I'm not a really big horror nut, but a good movie can come from anywhere, and Alien has always been in my top list.

@Avee: This scene was really, really disturbing. Another scene from this movie that disturbed me was the scene where she fell down the pit with the "Helping Hands".

Hmm. I don't know if this is relevant but I just remembered a scary scene from my childhood. It's still pretty scary and sad.
