BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL

Long time no see!
So I've decided to completely reboot my Pokemon RPG into a fictional TV show in my imagined Pokeworld. Ash and co. are still in the game as the TV show's audience, and I hope to have them praise or heckle the player's decisions at major plot points (don't worry, the "bad" ending is "So Bad, It's Good")
My question is, is it possible to break the fourth wall like this? (the TV show characters, who the player controls, are unaware of the fourth wall breaking)

Okay, how would such fourth wall breaking work in RPG Maker VX Ace?
My guess is when you make a choice or at certain points a text box appears with the praise or heckling

So you're actually worried about the coding / system implementation, then? Heh, didn`t sound like that
Well, the text box approach is a way, though I suppose you could add an actual cutscene inside a TV or something, this would look pretty cool!

You could include a small picture of said person that pops up, a text message, a cutscene. Basically everything you can imagine. :)
I'm probably going to go the text message route--may also change its colors to denote who is praising or heckling
Hi ShineDiamond and everybody!
Maybe you can implement a "voting system". So that some actions in the game give "votes" for the protagonists, and thus things may happen or may not... Help would come or would not (like Hunger Games, maybe).
So, let's say that can also add some kind of hilarious moments like: "Ohh sorry, I can't give you the Master Ball right now. Your dropped this weekend rating", "You feel somehow observed... like if people were making fun of you" Or whatever.
You may also do what JosephSeraph says:
So maybe you can control Ash AND the audience (or the manager of the program... like trying to make the show better may decide Ash's fate?)
At the end, it's your decision. There are many ways as you can imagine!! :)

Actually, Ash and the gang are not the TV characters, they are the audience watching the TV show--what I'm trying to create is them shouting advice at the TV show characters or poking fun at RPG cliches and fantasy tropes
I am such a sucker for breaking the fourth wall.
Anyway, from what I'm understanding...
...the way I would do this is to have a cut-scene with Ash and co sitting in front of said TV, and when they turn it on, that's when the title screen of the game comes up. I'm imagining that said cut-scene would play with each play session, so allowing it to be skipped might be appropriate.
Anyway, with this setup, having characters that aren't even on-screen making snide commentary doesn't come out of nowhere. It's established that it's these other characters watching the game. Actually, it might be a very similar experience to watching an episode of Mystery Science Theater.
That aside, I have no idea how this cut-scene idea would be pulled off, as far as code is concerned.

I LOVE that idea! (although I may have to get a TV sprite that turns on, the one I have doesn't turn on)
I could just do a fade out of the gang around the TV (I already have Ash, Pikachu, Misty, Brock, and Dawn already in the game), which fades in to the title screen to mimic the TV turning on.
To further add to the fact the player is controlling a TV show, I could have an announcer pop in to set the scene in the TV world and add "'The Song Mage Chronicles' will be right back after these messages." and "We now return to 'The Song Mage Chronicles'"
(The Song Mage Chronicles is the name of the show the gang is watching, BTW)
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I would probably do a Mystery Science Theater 3000 type thing, having silhouettes of chairs with silhouettes of Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu sitting in them in the foreground at all times during the game.

How would that work?
Dawn is watching and gently poking fun at the show as well, so there's four humans and a Pokemon in all

It would work pretty much exactly like that screenshot. Have them in front, use small text boxes over their heads.
Each human character would have a distinct style of riffing:
Ash--commenting on (or making fun of) the cheesy parts
Misty--commenting on the plot, plot holes, and inconsistencies
Brock--musical riffs galore, mainly referring to other Nintendo games (eg. if the show characters are overlooking an area with lots of places a person could jump over, he might "sing" the Mario theme (achieved by tuning "Platforms-a-Plenty" down to match his classic voice
Dawn--commenting on special effects (or lack thereof)

This sounds like a job for Yanfly's Gab Window, so you could have them heckling without interrupting the flow of the game.
Bonus points if you can make some of them get up and leave if they get bored.
Even better, have battles result in a game over if the audience completely loses interest due to spamming.
