GRINSIA (3DS)

It looks like the 3ds will be getting a game with the same quality as an rpg maker game.
Is anyone as surprised as I that a game that looks like it was made in rpg maker is coming to the eshop next week?

Looks pretty interesting, actually. I'd give it a go as long as it doesn't cost too much. That said, I'm not at all surprised by a game like this being on 3DS. If there were a current console that RM games could be ported to and not look/feel completely out of place, the 3DS would be it.
It's a Kemco game actually. They made a million of those games for iPad and now they are porting them (well only the most popular ones) to 3DS and other handhelds one by one.
They are not THAT bad. In fact I enjoyed most of their games (they are still better than most RPG Maker games alone because they don't use default assets). But I think the problem is that JRPGs really lack on consoles but not on handhelds. If you are fine playing on handhelds like 3DS there are much better JRPG options...

That is a lot of games. Now if you told me they were made on rpg maker that wouldn't even surprise me. I mean some of those games look like they use the RTP.
Some tiles look very similar but if you compare pixel by pixel they are different.
I assume they wrote their own RPG Maker and make the games with that. The menu design does make it feel different than if it was made with Enterbrain's RPG Maker.

The only thing that puts me off is the horribly generic music.
So lifeless, dull and bland... I hate when games that attempt to feel JRPG do this
It's AWFUL

Yeah, I'll agree with that. Kinda missing the sounds of yester-year. I mean, look at games like, oh, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross (<3), Wild ARMs, Okami, Terranigma, Lufia and the like. The music is either so catchy it hurts, or really memorable or just plain awesome.
Milka was the name of a character in Lufia II - an elf-girl. Also, IIRC, there was a Milka in Wild ARMs too. It's not an uncommon name for cute girls. ^.^
Milka is also the name of a chocolate bar, which reminds me that I'm hungry and I'm not gonna go offtopic cyu
That's some really uninspired stuff. Looks and sounds too generic for me. I might be wrong but not gonna take that chance unless someone actually played it and proved otherwise.

Heh, it's okay.. my Milka is actually only -pronounced- Milka, but spelled Miruka. So.. meh. : p And, it's a cow-girl, not a human girl.

Do you really think the music is bad?
I actually think the music is one of the strong points in Kemco's games and it is actually very catchy.
Grinsia gameplay with ingame music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXMrRXineqQ
Fantasy Chronicle gameplay with ingame music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVK3UVqOIAY (this one has my favorite soundtrack of all Kemco RPGs)

Man, this GUI is so, SO clumsy
The system sounds are rather cool, but badly used so it becomes annoying and repetitive
Graphics are nice and pretty by themselves, but mapping is godawful and monster placement is even worse
and those backdrops
Ugh
About the soundtrack, yeah, it isn`t THAT awful, it`s just not so good.
Nah, so much wasted potential, this could be a really cool game

Not saying it's bad. Everything looks and sounds alright to me. Everything is just really, really generic and uninteresting. It's like they mixed every SNES RPG into one (with slightly worse mapping). I'm sure it was some work putting those games together, but couldn't they have gone for something that at least tries to do something new?

Well I still think its better than most rpg maker games I've seen made that have been completed.
That's not really a big feat if you think about that most RPG Maker games are made by one person and those people never made a game before in their life.
I don't really want to sound too negative, but I just get annoyed by people that remake old games without any kinds of vision themselves except getting money.
@SnowOwl
I know and that's the worst part about it. These games should be significantly better in quality than any rpg maker game, but their not.
I think their games all look really plain and boring.

It's true that those games are not as good as SNES quality and they aren't doing anything new (well they do somehow, by adding for example an auto battle feature and a combo system, but I know what you mean), but for me they are still better than even the $15-25 commercial RPG Maker games (e.g. Aldorlea stuff), so at least for iPad/iPhone where you can get them for as little as $3 during a sale, they were well worth it.
I also don't think that JRPGs should necessarily try something new. I can understand for handhelds (so criticism here is valid), but for someone who wants to play on a TV screen or PC monitor, it's basically that these days there are hardly any good traditional JRPGs. So even if a super generic JRPG is released for PC or console the chance is pretty high that I'll like it without it requiring to do something new, simply because it's so rare these days.
Some games from my past, especially Genesis/SNES era, I simply want to be copied exactly and just new dungeons and story put on them.
Plus, I'm not very fond of overcomplicating games.
And in the end if you have the choice between buying yet another Final Fantasy remake or a game that's basically Final Fantasy with slightly lower quality but offers new dungeons and a new story, then I'd rather choose the latter.

I can't vouch for the Nicalis 3DS version of Grinsia, but good grief is the localization for the Android/iOS games poor. It's pretty obvious Kemco's translators have a tenuous grasp of English at best. I've played Machine Knight and End of Aspiration (which Natsume is bringing to PSP later this year), both games suffered from boring gameplay, mediocre graphics, poor music and incomprehensible text.
