THEIS SERIES WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER WITHOUT
Posts
Choose one video game, movie, and / or book in a series that didn't really need to exist.
Video Game: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
-Using the same engine as Ocarina of Time this game focuses on the exploits of Child Link as he collects masks (one of the worst mechanics ever) and goes through the same 3 day cycle over and over again (and loses all his progress.)
Movie: The Hobbit (All 3 of them)
-They didn't need to make 3. Peter Jackson is a cash cow.
Book: Terry Goodkind's "The Pillar's of Creation."
-A book that doesn't even focus on the main character and is never really talked about in future books. Way to go. (Richard even makes a reference to something he did, which I would have rather read about.)
PS - Why can't you edit the topic title?
In regards to The Hobbit movies, Peter Jackson didn't want to make them in the first place. Whoever's releasing the films (Warner?) was responsible for that, Peter tried for so long to get Guillermo DelToro to direct but it kept falling through till he eventually left and Peter was convinced to direct.
If you're going to blame someone it's the studio execs.
Final Fantasy X-2, XIII, XIII-2, LR. Why? Cause they're shit... Well X-2 battle system is pretty amazing. But I can't stand the XIII series.
Tekken 4&6 didn't need to be made the way they were. Tekken 3&5 are absolutely amazing fighting games, especially the third one.
Anything based around Final Fantasy VII.
I can't think of anything else right now for some reason.

I'll agree with anything around FF7 that isn't the game itself. Fuck that shit. This is why people think Cloud is 'emo'. :/

I'm too aghast at the OP re: MM's design to think of a coherent response right now.
He's technically right. He just left out the part about it being better than OOT.
Koji Suzuki's third Ring (as in, Sadako) book, Loop, which retcons the entire Ring universe into being a virtual reality program and Sadako a rogue AI. It effectively made the entire series pointless. The Resident Evil knock-off Ring for Dreamcast was partly based on that book.
Drakengard 2 is the black sheep of the trilogy, lacking Yoko Taro's writing and generally just feeling a bit flat.
I agree that all of that FF7 expanded universe stuff is naff as hell. I remember everybody flipping out over their love for Crisis Core; I think it's one of the most embarrassingly written and boring PSP games I own. WHO THE HECK ARE ALL THESE NEW GUYS AND WHY SHOULD I CARE

I agree about X-2. The story was awful, the characterization was awful, so much awful. They are lucky the gameplay wasn't atrocious.
I also generally agree about VII derivatives. With the exception of Dirge of Cerberus. ; u ; I honestly really enjoyed that one... for the most part.
Speaking of video games, how about DMC 2? I haven't played many of the newer ones, so maybe it's possible they're worse, but compared to other the PS2 ones, the second was worst (in my opinion).
@TungerManU - If by Disney sequels you mean sequels of the animated classics, then I'm with ya. Majority of them were terrible.

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice
- The Edgeworth spinoffs are amazing, but Apollo lacks the necessary character, in his OWN game. At least they fixed him in Dual Destinies...
Pokémon: Black, White, Black2, White2, X, Y
- Too many nonsensical pokémon, cannot comprehend!

author=NewBlackI also fail to see how anyone could think of MM as anything but the masterpiece of the Zelda series.
I'm too aghast at the OP re: MM's design to think of a coherent response right now.
At least half of all Sonic games...
Its not really my wish that they didn't exist, but just that they weren't so sucky.
I also don't really care for Back to the Future 2. I don't remember it too well, but I'm pretty sure it ends with absolutely nothing changing -- its just undoing some changes.

author=kory_toombsEh... flying that stupid bird in Skyward Sword is a lot worse. You can at least ignore the sidequests in MM and just play it as an OOT expansion pack. I think its pretty decent that way.
collects masks (one of the worst mechanics ever)
Alright, a forewarning: I'm going to be brutally honest in this post with my opinions, since I'm usually rather quaint and subdued when giving my thoughts but since I've been keeping my viewpoints on many of these series' burrowed in my mind for a long time, I might come off as a bit rash and close-minded since I've been itching to talk about them for a while. So I'm aware I'll catch some disagreements. And that's fine, since everyone has their own tastes and I'm open to seeing what others have to say about what I think if they want to. just pls dont rip my dick off :c
Other M for Metroid. Between how Samus was handled, which I REALLY disliked, the story and the gameplay (I DID think it was alright at first with the third-person stuff and all but I honestly felt like playing the Prime games after a while), I just felt it was a really mediocre addition to the series.
Most of the KH spin-offs, since KH has always had a problem with its story being confusing and all, and the side entries just made things 10x worse. Birth By Sleep and Days were alright though.
Spider-Man 3. I loved the first two to death at the time, so it was a huge disappointment for me. All of them are more or less guilty pleasures for me now though.
And yes, GoatBoy, DMC 2 was indeed worse than the other three original trilogy games. It wasn't AWFUL, but it just felt quite a bit out of place with the campy goofiness of the others.
Far Cry 2. I liked the first a lot and 3 is probably one of my favorite first-person shooters ever, but 2 was just duuuuullllll, especially the vehicle sections. Servicable enough the first time around, but NOT something I'd want to play again unless I was completely bored.
Every Shrek film after the second, more or less. I don't think this needs an explanation.
The 4th season and first half of the 6th season of The Sopranos, since a lot of the 4th season just kind of felt pointless and boring except for the fight between Tony and Carmela at the end, and the first portion of the 6th season focused on Vito WAY too much, even though I think he's a decent character; just not good enough to be a central focus of the show. Also, most scenes with Meadow since she's a pretentious, self-righteous little snob whose neck I just want to wring half the time (and no, her being 'hot' does not excuse her from any justifiable criticisms, keep your dicks in your pants, please), and ANY scene with A.J. and Janice. The former was alright-ish during the earlier seasons, since he was basically just a smart-mouthed kid, but then they turned him into an emo, weak, whiny bitch who's incapable of doing anything right, while the latter is unbearable in practically every way.
I like most of the FFs from what I've played of them, but yeah, I honestly can't stand XIII. So linear and piss-easy it's ridiculous. I have rather mixed feelings about XIII-2, though (OST is a mixed bag, the gameplay is at least an improvement from XIII to a degree, and Caius is a decent villain, though Mog can eat a dick and the ending is just... wat).
Seasons 6/7/8/12 of Family Guy. I loved the first 5 seasons and 9-11 were fine for the most part, since the first 5 seasons focused on just being goofy and whimsical and seasons 9-11 had a fairly good mix of both goofiness and intelligent humor, though everything else is just a mess of unfunny offensive "jokes", hypocritical preaching, Meg-bashing, political soap-boxing, atrocious writing and whatever the fuck else. The whole Life of Brain bullshit that happened a while ago was just the final nail in the coffin for me, now the show's going to have to try REALLY hard if it intends to be watchable for me again; God knows it won't, though.
Every Simpsons season after the original 7-8 or so. Again, I'm not sure if this really warrants elaboration. Some of the recent episodes are a step up from what's been going on for the bulk of the 2000's, though.
This is probably the most minor example of the bunch, but season 2 of The Wire. It's not necessarily BAD on its own by any means, but there was a noticeable decrease of focus on the themes and characters that made the other seasons so great. It was still a good season though.
There ya have it. Like I said, I'm sorry if I seem misinformed or a bit too simplistic and bandwagon-y with my opinions.

But... the entire trilogy was amazing... Sure, most of 2 they were fixing the present after it was screwed up, but that's because the past was altered when they were changing the future. Such a mindfucky plot deserves of a gold star just for existing...
The odd one out is 3, really. The wildwest theme really didn't fit with the rest of the trilogy. It was still a really good finale, though.

Edit: I might as well comment on the original OP. I was just too stunned to reply.

Everything was disappointing about that movie. Except this scene.

Indeed. I love Shrek 1 and 2, but everything after just killed it.
Let's be real here. The Amazing Spider Man is much worse than the original trilogy. Why couldn't they have kept it the same?
The Matrix 2 and 3 didn't need to happen. The first one was powerful enough alone.
Home Alone 3 because only the first 2 should have ever existed in the first place.
The Lion King 2
Aladdin 2, 3, cartoon show
Final Fantasy 10-2, Final Fantasy 11, Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy 13-2,
and Final Fantasy 14. Wow Square really has been killing this franchise!
Any movie related to Twilight after the first one was not necessary.

Anywho,
Why has no one mentioned Star Wars ep. 1-3?
Command & Conquer 4: what happened to my fun RTS :'(
Season 9 of Scrubs. They completely changed everything while still keeping the same name and eventually resorted to bringing back Zach Braff but even that didn't help. Which is too bad because Season 8's finale was great and would be one of the best series finales ever, if it WAS the series finale. Season 8's first half was week, too, but it got much better by the end.
Diablo 3. The turd of the Diablo series.
...and I am sure I have others but I'd have to think on it.
Regarding MM, I never played it. It looked boring and dumb, and it focused on kid Link, which was the most annoying part of OoT, so I avoided it. For whatever reason though I think I have two copies of MM sitting in a box in my storage room, along with my other old consoles and stuff.
Note though that I am not a big Zelda fan. OoT is the only one I've finished, and it and LoZ, LoZ 2, LttP and Skyward Sword are the only ones I've played for more than 20mins.
EDIT:
I liked the Aladdin cartoon show :x
TMNT 3 live action movie.
Most of the ST: TNG movies (mostly the fact that they should have kept going with ST:TNG shows instead of stopping the series and making movies out of ideas that would have worked better as an hour long episodes)

I would actually recommend the FF series to people if every FF before X didn't exist. The jump in quality after IX is like night and day. An unusual example of a series that got significantly better as it went along, rather than worse.
The Mana series of games would have been better off without Dawn of Mana.
It used the Havok engine in perhaps the clumsiest way possible. You lost all your levels/stats at the end of each chapter and had to kill enemies in "Panic Mode" to regain them(triggered by cleverly using the Havok engine's physics to throw objects at them). Oh, and one of the chapters ends with a big unexplained time skip. You fight a major boss and "win"(except you lose) and then get a big screen that says "HERP DERP 2 YEARS LATER" or something.

MOVIE: Back to the Future 3
- Forgettable at best, especially considering how fun the other two movies were.
VIDEO GAME: Every Spyro the Dragon game after the original trilogy
- Maybe Ted Price was right. There isn't a whole lot Insomniac could do to take Spyro further after the third installment... Or at least the devs responsible for all of the insanely mediocre games that came afterward proved him right.
