H. R. Giger died a couple of days ago.
He's the artist who designed the aliens for the film "Alien"
"Alien" went on to inspire many other sci-fi movies and videogames.
Contra and most notably Metroid would not be the same without H. R. Giger.
The man changed the look of sci-fi.

He died yesterday. May 13. Totally blew my mind. He fell and died of complications. Not only did he design the Alien, but he designed Sil from "Species" and he designed the sandworms and machines from the 1986 film adaptation of "Dune".
Giger suffered from night-terrors and all of his work is, at least in part, inspired by this. Of course, for an avid Giger follower, it's impossible to miss the eroticism in his art, from the incredibly phallic Alien (Take a good look at the Alien in a side profile: you'll see what I mean),

to a painting of train pistons that are literally vaginas lined up side by side.
He has always been one of my favorite artists. My absolute favorite piece is Li I.
