What if we took the loveable faces of everyones favoriote smash em up and made a tactics game out of it..Something like FFT advance would be nice...any idea or input on how to make this work, and how it wouldnt work?
If Street Fighter Alpha and Street Fighter 3rd Strike characters and gameplay mechanics were used, it could potentially be incredibly awesome if lots of time and dedication were devoted to it.
Yes, but how could you animate those kinds of attacks into a Tactics RPG? any ideas on that? Also with RM systems...?
(BTW i am gathering information to undertake this project in the distant futre)

Honestly, you'd probably have to make the sprites yourself. However, I suggest editing FFTA/A2 sprites, because they're solid sprites with a good base to edit from and they're already suited to make a tactical game.
If you need SF sprites for reference, here's a good 3rd Strike site: http://www.zweifuss.com/
Let me warn you, if you make this, if it's not really really good, it's going to be absolute shit. Be warned.

LMAO! this is going to be a way later project....ANYTHING Street Fighter in my eyes MUST BE PERFECT! i wouldnt be able to live with myself knowing i butcherd it..
I like those sprites i think ill save them for later referance! Also i got IRC!

Getting the whole turn based system will be quite difficult to pull off in a RM engine but it is possible I reckon. It's beyond my limited ability anyhows.
Yeah dude, you could always take the NamcoXCapcom approach and
have battles take place on a sideview battle field. But then
again, that'd more than likely constitute as a copy...
But it'd be in English!!

If when you got to fighting someone it went into a Street Fighter fight I think it would kick ass. You could always make it like a chessboard so just the heads an what not are shown?
Realistically speaking, do you have any idea how you are doing to make this? With what engine? Can you handle the coding, or will you try to find someone else who is talented in that field? As someone said earlier, its going to take a lot of it to create a game that is as technically in depth as FFT is. Just a few points to consider before embarking on a very ambitious project! :)
If you need any help with sprites, let me know. This is an amazing idea, I've been contemplating a street fighter project and a tactical game, and combining them sounds genius!
This is an interesting idea, however to pull it off properly, you'd have to sidle away from Final Fantasy Tactics, and consider something else. Using FFT as a base, we have the four directions of course. However, to use shoryuken and stuff more effectively, I think you should consider jumping as another direction: IE you could jump somewhere, but the movement wouldn't happen all at once, so someone else could go below and attack upwards. At the same time, a jump attack would hit people below in the line of fire. All in all this is a terrific idea. Send it to Capcom. :P
