AN INTRODUCTION (AND A LONG ONE AT THAT)

Hello, I am Formless. Feels a little awkward introducing myself by creating a topic, but whatever. I have used RPG Maker 2003, but never could come up with a concrete game concept, as I would have so many ideas floating around my mind, but never could get all of them to work together. While I play some games with RPG elements, truth be told, I'm not a big fan of RPGs themselves. If the game is short, then that would be one thing, but most RPGs (that I am aware of) seem to clock in at least north of 50 hours. Considering I usually have things going on in real life, (college right now) RPGs are definitely not the kind of games I want to commit to beating any time soon. That being said, I don't hate RPGs. If anything, I just get annoyed when a game is designed to where one is expected to shell out more hours than he/she may be able to or feel like doing.

As for my experience with RPG Maker 2003, until a year ago, I'd just tinker around with it, but never would create a serious game out of it. After getting some more practice with the engine, however, I gained confidence and began brainstorming ideas. Problem is, most of my ideas for games involve modern settings, and, from what I've seen on the website Charas-Project, there isn't much for modern settings. For example, I wanted to have a movie theater as one of the areas for the game I'm working on right now. Problem is, creating a room (and this is only for one cutscene) that looks like a movie theater is going to be difficult at best with what few modern Tilesets I've found. Creating a modern-looking city has also been problematic in my attempts to create a modern setting in RPG Maker 2K3. If someone wants to point me to some other website(s) for resources, that would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I didn't expect this introduction to become a wall of text, but it is what it is. Either way, I apologize if this was longer than necessary for an intro.

There are plenty of other types of games made in RPG Maker that are short in length as well. I am looking forward to seeing what you contribute. Your wall of text was fairly readable, so I wouldn't fret about it being offending or anything. If anything, welcome to the site. Please make yourself at home and feel comfortable.

We aren't terrible people.
Most indie RPGs created in RPG Maker tend to be shorter (like 5-10 hours) owing to the fact that most development teams consist of 1 person and 1 person can only do so much. There are exceptions of course...

If you were to snag RPG Maker VX Ace and the extra DLCs as part of the Humble Bundle sale going on RIGHT NOW http://rpgmaker.net/forums/topics/15474/ you would have access to some pretty decent modern/future tiles. There are also tilesets sold individually http://rpgmaker.net/store/

But the Humble Bundle is like $12. it is a great steal, but it ends in like 2 days.

(I bought the humble bundle even though I owned Ace already just to see the DLC. I haven't even checked the contents of them yet)

Anywho, welcome!
