PHANTASY STAR ONLINE: BLUE BURST

So I've been on a bit of a PSO binge lately. I don't feel like playing on foreign PSO2 servers, and it doesn't seem like they plan on actually offering a North American release anymore(unless you consider a year or so of saying nothing but "We will provide further information when it is available" to be promising).
Anyways, I've been playing on a server called Revillution PSO(RevPSO for short). It's a nice little server with slightly higher exp and rare monster appearance rates(currently bugged and a bit higher than intended), but otherwise pretty close to the original and has most of the content from JP and NA versions of Blue Burst.
Just wondering if there are any other PSO fans around here - It's an old game, but it's aged well in my opinion(as far as games centered around grinding and loot, at least).

I used to play PSO on my Dreamcast back in the days. I enjoyed it quite a bit - although I played it in offline mode only. ( Going online with Dreamcast was a pain.. )
I'd LOVE to play PSO2, i was really looking forward to it, but since I live in Europe now, it's kinda iffy... i heard the servers are region blocked. And I'm really disappointed that PSO2 does not at least provide an offline mode. : (
*sigh* PSO2 looks really good, too - what a shame..

People still play PSO? That's some crazy ass shit, I loved that game. It could be very profitable to Sega if they marketed it right, although I had a lot of problems with PSU.
i played it on gamecube with local 4 player and no internet. then i played it way later on a private server and realized it was kind of more fun offline with friends since we all had no idea what we were doing
ive played pso2 and it's really good and kinda of fun since you have to look up english->japanese guides online to do any basic task. it lives up to old pso in some ways but kind of dont care anymore.

PSO is really one of the best MMORPGs I've played (but Ragnarok Online will remain my all-time favorite).
PSO still has THE BEST gamepad support of all MMORPGs to-date. And the boss battles were probably the most strategic ones I've seen too (all requiring tricks and knowledge on how to dodge all the different boss attacks).
The game also has some flaws like feeling a bit too repetitive and lacking randomness. The idea to combine MMORPG with roguelike is amazing, but it really should have the randomness of a roguelike rather than just a few different map-parts randomly put together. The idea has so much potential and really should be perfected.
Well maybe it was in PSO2, but I can't play and Sega hasn't really been good ever since this century.

Yeah, I'm extremely disappointed that Sega has been silent about PSO2. They originally said they'd give a NA release in "early 2013", but all they've said since then is a generic "The game is delayed.".
I agree PSO should have been a bit more random in level design. Episode 4 remedied that slightly with more varied layouts and having 4 different routes to enter the Crater area from, though they were still pretty similar.

Man, I've been on such a PSO hype recently.
PSO is still to this day the only mmo I've ever been able to get into. I played it on the Dreamcast as a kid and played it on private servers as a teen. The customization was my favorite part as well as the fighting mechanics. Everything about it was great for me.
PSO2 is fun too, but it doesn't really feel the same. Maybe it's because of the whole arks cash thing orz. I love the wide array of weapons though and the inclusion of mags.
If my friends were into it, I'd probably play it a lot more. But it's not really fun solo.
Are the PSO2 servers really region locked? I never noticed! That really sucks for people that can't even try the JP version if they wanted to.

I haven't bothered trying to play, but I've heard the Southeast Asia server is region locked. The JP server, to my knowledge, isn't. Again, I haven't tried playing it yet. I'd rather just stick to PSOBB until they get around to releasing an NA server.
What annoys me the most is that this isn't a case of development hell or anything. The game is finished(or, as finished as any MMO is) and has even been completely localized by fans(and I've heard there's an official translation that was finished shortly after the JP release).
I sincerely hope the only reason they're delaying is so they can find a reliable publisher to handle the NA servers.
Everybody right now plays on the JP server using the fan translation.
It's weird, Sega sucks so much lately but the community is pretty amazing and many are creative as in doing fan translations or even full games as mods of older games (see for example Shining Force 2 Battle Royale and Shining Force II Tribute) or PSO private servers (the popular ones are quite well managed). If Sega wouldn't actually completely ignore its community and hire those talented game designers and translators, they would probably make much better games.

yup, however... in this world you can't just like, send out letters of hiring to strangers XD
at least that'd be the first time i'd have ever heard of that.
Well, I know that some hackers got a job after hacking an important website.
It would certainly be possible to just contact talented persons on the internet and offer them a job, but it hardly happens.

Been waiting on PSO2 for too long I'd almost forgot about it :/ I spent many hours on PSO for the DC, cost a lot also and stopped people calling the house.
PSOBB is brilliant, but since I didn't know or have anyone else to jump on with the later levels just seemed to drag and since I tend to be FOmarl it gets quite hard being solo and having team members who just dash and grab.
