DECIDING BETWEEN ENGINES

Thought about making a game with no standard battle system. The entire game consists of dungeon puzzles and evented boss mini games.
So I'm probably just mapping and eventing the whole game with almost no scripts.
Just some questions about XP
*Can xp use vx ace resources? I found several parallax tiles and thought about using them.
*Can XP event just as much as Ace?
*How is the engine lagging differences between xp and ace?
*And lastly, are there any issues xp has with current computer software?

Parallax tiles should be fine to use in XP, but most other resources will not work unless modified. That said, parallaxing isn't as easy in XP and will (as far as my experience goes) require a script. However, parallaxing is also not as important, since XP tilesets are more flexible/better.
XP cannot event some things as easily as Ace does, but most of the same things can be accomplished one way or another.
I don't know about lag. Personally haven't experienced much of a difference.
Also haven't personally experienced any issues regarding your last inquiry either.
If you want to see more comparisons, I suggest doing a search on this site. Similar topics crop up all the time.
My opinion, in short, is that they can both accomplish the same things. It's just a matter of how you prefer to work.

All the resources released officially are advertised as being able to be used in XP, VX, and VX Ace. Though I'm not sure how true this is. More of the current resources seem to be targeted towards Ace.
If you have an imaging editing program like Gimp then it shouldn't matter which maker your using to parallax map. But you'll need a script to make the parallax fit to the map at the very least. (And if you want different layers in the parallax. Usually 2 works for me = ground and above character.)
RPG Maker VX Ace will make doing these things easier. That doesn't mean that you can't do these things in XP.
If I were you, I'd keep my tabs on Open RPG Maker. It's not ready yet (has only editor, engine is still in development), but according to author only Show Message command is left to be implemented and then it will be deployed. I'll ask Tuxinator (developer) about status of this, but should be finished in few months.
