Well, this comes as a complement of my thread about Congruent Magic Systems. If you want, let's talk a little about magic and let me know your opinion about magic systems and which element is your favourite.

If you think an element is missing, don't doubt to ask for it to be added (I will if I can, as I don't know if it can be done...)

EDIT: Nope, I think it can't be done... I hope I included everything. You can always comment it!
Fire - because I like pure damage spells and usually don't want to bother with status changes and the like and pure damage spells often get put into the "Fire" element in RPGs.
Man a lot of these 'elements' are like...what?

Okay, how many of these were borrowed from Pokémon?

They're not on the list, but my favorite "elements" are probably Solar and Lunar. They'd fill the same niche as Light and Dark, but with more of a space/astronomy flavor and hopefully without the implication that Light == Good or Dark == Evil.

E: I just noticed that that ELEMENTS: is an option and I'm kinda tempted to vote for that...
I've always loved wind element.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The only difference is the list of enemies that resist them. Without such a list, they are all identical.

Nothing ever resists lightning though.

Well, y'know, except for Lightning enemies. And Ground types in Pokemon.

Also, Ice and Time ftw!

Wind.
But you put time and space there, so my brain just decide to take a break.
I've seen all or nearly all of these used before, but some of them only once. Star Ocean 2 had a huge set of elements, some of which didn't even make this list (such as Void and Star,) the upshot of which was that all the elemental affinities except Fire, which was used more than the others, were nigh irrelevant, because the chance of affinity matchups was small enough that you could just ignore it most of the time.

If you're going to have a large list of elements, I think it's better to ensure that they all do something interesting besides "extra damage to things weak against this element."

Pokemon and Shin Megami Tensei are pretty good at making sure each element has approximately equal usefulness while also making you think and care about which ones you decide to learn. (Largely by making you figure out a team that can handle all situations.)

Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, Tales, Breath of Fire, Lufia? Not so much. Lightning > Holy > Fire > Ice > Earth > Dark.

In real life? Wind.

In fantasy games? "Shove a lightning bolt up his ass!"
SO2 is the worst. It has all that crap and none of it was ever relevant. The vast majority of it was the common elements, nothing really differentiated between them besides damage output, god knows what the enemies did, and ahahahaha this is fucking SO2 who gives a shit about elements just spam Mirror Slice and other super combo attack moves:

Thunder/Lightning, because it looks flashy ( literally ). And because it would probably be a really effective element against armoured enemies like knights( electrocute 'em ) or fry the scales off a dragon. ^^
Dark (Like my soul //_u). Because it's usually a very powerful element, only weak to holy and derivatives; and because it usually has the best animations. Dark magic have probably the most visual variety of all kinds of magic (they can even look like other elements) and if they're coupled with arcane symbols and such, the better. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. =P

If you really want to drop knights and dragons go for suffocation damage! You get all the loot in the best shape possible since asphyxiation won't damage it unlike massive burns from an arc flash or whatever happens when you shoot electricity from your fingers.
