OPINIONS ON GRANDIA XTREME/MY FUTURE RPG

So, I'm not sure if there's that many of you who's played or even heard of the game. Either way, if you have, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it!

The thing is, I'm tinkering with ideas for my next RPG and one of the closest ideas is a dungeon crawler with JRPG elements. Grandia Xtreme is one of my main influences for the game. Some of the ideas being:

-A simple/minimal story, taking focus more on the gameplay aspect.
-About 4-5 rather lengthy mandatory dungeons and maybe 2 or so bonus dungeons.
-One town and one town only. The main party will also have some kind of HQ in/near the town where they can buy from shops, sleep and whatnot!
-Likeable characters, but probably not something too original. Same goes for the story.
-A small world map, used more as a hub to travel back and forth from the dungeons and the town.
-Visible on-screen encounters.
-And of course, one goddamn super-special-awesome final dungeon and boss! :)

Those are pretty much the key elements I'll be going with. What do you think? Would you enjoy playing a game like this?

Thanks in advance!
Well, I consider the combat system and dungeon crawling in Grandia Xtreme to be exceptionally high quality, and I'd be happy if someone else could replicate those strengths, but the weakness of the story and character development put it behind the main games in the Grandia series for me. As a player, I'm always happier with a good story than without one, however good the gameplay might be.
Yeah Grandia Xtreme is usually known as "Worst game of the series, but the combat was great."

BUT! I have to say that the idea of "The whole RPG only plays in one town and its surroundings" is great. Many good games have used this like Alundra, Visions and Voices, Shining in the Darkness and Wizardry and pulled it off quite well (well Wizardry maybe not so much).

It is actually easier to make a great character focused game if you only have one town because there are less people in the game so you can actually get the player to like or dislike even every single NPC (Alundra pulls this off especially well). Even the tavern in Shining in the Darkness is so interesting with the people visiting it and talking with you and the people inside the tavern change as you progress through the story. If someone is missing you will instantly notice that.

So what I'm saying is that your game idea is great and there should be more games like that, but I'd rather not compare it with Grandia Xtreme as it's one of the weaker titles that use this system.
Also if you haven't yet, you should consider playing SitD (at least for some hours) to get some inspiration (you can get it for pretty cheap as digital PC download these days).
Thanks for your answers, I'm glad both of you like the idea! I was thinking about using a front view BS for this game, but I might try to do something more advanced with it.

I know Xtreme's the worst in the series when it comes to story/characters, but I think it's the most dungeon crawl-centered game of them all, which is kind of what I am aiming for. Aside from the BS, this game will probably have a lot more puzzles going on than Xtreme.

Also, thanks for the game ideas! I think I'll start off with Visions and Voices, mainly because it's an RPG Maker game.

I will probably come back with some screenshots sooner or later so you can get a better look at what I'm trying to do.
