A MUSICIAN SAYING HI

Hey guys! I'm not sure what to say so as to introduce myself. You can call me Alex. I'm not much of a hardcore gamer, at least not as much as I used to, but I still love games, mainly RPGs (and I do have soft spot for horror games).

Anyways, I made an account here with one main purpose: I'm a musical composition student, my main focus is academic music, but I'd like to offer my music to anyone who needs or wants an original composition in their game!

I'm not a professional, just a student, but I promise to meet any deadlines that aren't "FOR TOMORROW". I know original music is rarely a priority, but some of us get tired of hearing Satie's gymnopedies appear in every other game >.<

Nice to meet you all!

PS: Here's soundcloud with a few of my hits (with crappy samplers, because... yeah... life)

Hello and Welcome!
My, you're a great guy to come in offering your work, if I might say so.
Music is really important for atmosphere, I'm sure you'll be able to help a lot.

Hello~ Welcome to RMN, we love musicians here!
Welcome to RMN!
I hope you'll enjoy your stay here. And it's really nice of you to offer your compositions. Poke around in the forums! Who knows, someone out there could be dying for a composer.

Have a nice day!
Another (lazy and unprofessional) musician saying "yo"! You'll have more luck looking for projects than waiting for projects to find you. You might find something in the Requests Blogs page:

Well, I've heard (and used) worse before... But yeah, it probably wouldn't hurt to muck a bit with the MIDI's note velocities, length/timing, and Expression CCs (#11) if your software is capable of it.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I guess I'll poke around, try and see if anyone needs a hand. I'm a bit new to this kind of thing so I gotta admit it's kinda scary!

Aren't we all (musicians) lazy and unprofessional? Hahahaha I mostly use Sibelius, I recently... "legally acquired"... Sonar. Gotta install some better samplers, though they're quite heavy, and see what I can do with this thing!

lol it sure seems like it sometimes: "Hmm, got a C chord, what's next? Eh, fuck, F chord - its what everyone else does. I don't even feel like sequencing another bass line or drum beat, so I'll just copy-paste from another project. Okay, 8 measures down, time to copy-paste all that and change a few notes at the end and call it a period! Quick, where's my stock drum-loop files, I need a fill!"
We're fucking paragons of originality I tells ya.

Are these better samples "legally aquired" as well? "What, free Wurlitzer and E-mu SoundFonts, that can't be legal! Oh, whatever, they went out of business years ago!" Or is "samplers" not a typo and the "heavy" remark means that you have actual, physical samplers?

But hey, turns out there's a dedicated subforum for people offering/looking for artists/musicians/etc now, so you might want to make a post there!

I usually do orchestral compositions, so I do work hand in hand with actual orchestras... we could call those guys my physical samplers!

Mind sending me something you composed? I'd love to hear that, my laziness is more like "Hm... I can't think of a melody... LET'S GET POLYRHYTHMIC AND ATONAL IN HERE"
Heya alex nice to see another musician just joined!
I joined up yesterday also ^^

Hope we can work together sometime!

Is that anything like electronica musicians who make "Intelligent Dance Music" by throwing their drum machine into a bathtub and recording its death throws? Anyone who's all "yo beatz make no sense" gets the "mai muzik 2deep4u" treatment? Or are we talking hamster music?
(I kid, I kid...)

The only finished (in as much as a 1:30 loop is "finished") stuff I have is what I stuffed into my locker:
http://rpgmaker.net/users/turkeyDawg/locker/

I'm lazy, but I have standards. Standards I can't meet because I'm lazy. It's a vicious cycle I tells ya. Most of that stuff is from 2006~2009 (when I was in high school). When I first joined here, I had to really scrounge for any finished, non-terrible stuff I had for a "portfolio". You'd think that I would take that as a hint not to try what I was about to try, but, yanno... Smart ideas... I don't really have them.
The trick to getting anything done is to have low standards. Works for me! You can always improve afterwards (and getting stuff done leads to improvement!)

Welcome to RMN! Enjoy your stay!
Yeah, that's definitely true. I thought it would be a good idea to plan out a game and make all the resources before trying to code anything, but then I'd get intimidated by the workload and the feeling of being unsure about what I can and cannot make or program.

Then one day I just went "fuck it" and slapped some placeholder/ripped sprites and just started programming to get the basic engine and such out of the way. Now that I've got a functioning engine and a crappy stand-in stage, I feel a lot more ready and willing to start making resources for the actual game. Though, I'm thinking about practicing making graphics by first doing some stupid comic that I won't show anybody.
Are those your original works on soundcloud? Those are really good. Really.

I had to google that, thinking it was going to be totally obscure to me. Turns out it's something I heard before but didn't know it by name(not from a game though). I had learned to play it on guitar then made up my own arrangement for an RMN music event xD

You'll hear how it's inspired by part of gymnopedies but the last half is something I created myself. You can stop listening at 1:30, I was attempting to record multiple tracks and was going to layer it all later. Later never came. Not sure why I thought it would even work without using a metronome heh

I was a musician first, and then I picked up game making. Well technically I was a hardcore gamer before all that. Right now I'm working on a game about music. http://rpgmaker.net/games/4564/ I'm always looking for help, big or small, newb or pro. We can chat about it at least, send me a PM.

I main bass(14 years), then guitar probably, then drums, then keyboards, then anything else I can coax a rhythm out of :P
