The plot of the game is basically the main character has to find his friends, 1 went missing at his party, the second the day before. In his search he comes across a dead nun on the ground and searches further in the woods and finds an abandoned building which you eventually find out is the asylum, there's an aged journal on the ground and it's missing pages. In the current state it's not readable. In one of the rooms there is a mirror and the reflection is different. You check the mirror and are sent back in time to when the asylum was functioning.
I want to have it where there's an angel and demon in the asylum, the angel is an angel of massacre, and the demon is trying to help stop the angel in exchange for a soul. Both were summoned by people in the asylum. I'd like to have it so you have to find all the journal pages to get the true ending and everyone was returned, *friends*. And if you don't you get stuck there and are trapped without your friends because they all died.

The story is solid, already thought up a plan regarding areas, certain events or anything of the like?
Everything that you'll need for the game is here already. And all of them are pretty stable at this point...
You have the setting, key events, endings, and a summary. Couldn't see where else you'd need help.

I'm trying to figure out how I could make the events more suspenseful for jump scares or animations for death for custom characters?. I was also wondering if there was anyway to be able to find a way to create a better sprite than the ones you can make with RPG Maker VX Ace. I like them but I'd like them to be a little bit bigger than the size they are now.
Kylaila - I have most but there are huge blank parts as to collecting the missing journal pages. I would like there to be more jump scares during that process. How ever I am uncertain what I should do.
I'm no horror expert but here goes.
Try to find a dedicated artist who can help you make sprites and animations. You can also try frankenspriting with the Mack style sprites, which are taller. If you're really stuck on character death animations you can ask on the forums for someone to make them for you, or you can forgo the graphics part of the game and focus on making the OTHER parts really, really scary.
Unless you do it really well, pixelated blood isn't all that scary, so unless you're absolutely set on it there's no need to spend time on pixelated gore imo.
You should also rely on sound effects. For example, the character is walking in a dark and spooky hallway and passes a door. Set an event where a thump thump noise plays when they pass. If they're the easily frightened type they'll think "oh god something's in there".
Remember that a lot of the greater horror comes from the unknown, so don't overdo chase scenes and don't rely on stupid instakills, which seem to be more annoying and immersion-breaking than anything else. Surprise and unexpected occurrences are your friend. If you can catch the player off guard, you've found gold.
Apparently, a nice strategy you can use once is to establish a safe space for the player to relax and breathe, then take it away from them.
Also, in this day and age people expect more from horror than just jumpscares. Why is your setting scary? Because there's a mass murdering angel and a bunch of crazy people? If you can say "It's not JUST that," and go into detail about all of the absolutely horrifying acts these people are committing then you're fine, I guess.
As a bonus have some spooky creepy music to listen to.
