- So the rumors of a new Sailor Moon remake WERE true afterall!

As of right now, the first three episodes of a twenty-six episode full season is currently ongoing in Japan and is being streamed online on sites like Crunchyroll and Hulu every two weeks with each new episode release. I would imagine that once the first season has finished wrapping up by sometime in 2015 that this will be released worldwide and dubbed into many different languages like it was previously before. I’ve heard of many rumors that there was going to be a remake for this, but I just suddenly heard about it just right now from a friend.

As a curious onlooking male who stumbled his way into the series as a kid back then, Sailor Moon was pretty much the first anime I had ever seen before Dragon Ball and Pokemon came around. I basically owe my entire curiosity towards the subject thanks in large part to this show. I remember back then that if you were a guy and you watched this show back then and told people about it – you’d get your ass beat at school for it. But I didn’t care. I wasn’t the only guy who watched this show and wasn’t the only one who loved it. And I’m extremely pleased to see this show come back for a new generation of kids and adults.

The artwork looks amazing – and I’m glad that they’re speeding things up in terms of the episode count. I mean, they’ve already have introduced Sailor Mercury and Mars already, so that’s definitely a much faster start compared to the previous.

I’m excited – how ‘bout you guys? Did you guys end up watching the original back then when you were kids / teenagers like me, or was this one anime you personally avoided for some reason in favor of other shows? If you’re a guy that grew up watching this show, like me – were you ashamed to tell anybody about it? What was their reaction when you did? Also, who’s your favorite scout? Mine’s Jupiter because she was into sports, looked the most normal and toughest of the group, and is pretty my idle GF. :)

You're magical to me.

I have to watch this! ^_^

My favorite was always Mercury/Ami, because she is cute and shy, though Jupiter/Makoto is a close second :DDD

Amy is a close second to Lita for me. She used to be my favorite until I realized that, WTF – BUBBLES was her main use of an attack in the first season compared to somebody who can summon down lightning storms at will. Also, all she wanted to do in that show was study hard and get good grades. That’s fine and all, but whenever the other scouts wanted to have some fun and do something around town she would mostly prefer to just stay at home and study. That’s no fun! At least Lita would do something, no matter how stupid it may sound.

Then again, at least Amy did keep herself mostly out of trouble, more or less. She also seemed to be the one that pointed out the enemy’s weaknesses and got the scouts out of some sticky jams.

(Mmmmm...jam...)

I was kinda like Amy back when I watched the show. I'd be the one guy who would rather prefer to stay home and play video games.

Wait, study? I had levels of Dark Castle to clear, and a secret of the inner sanctum to uncover!
As with Dragonball Kai, this is the version that sticks closer to the manga, without all the annoying filler that is used to allow a mangaka to keep ahead of the anime.

In case you didn't know, usually anime are made on manga that are very successful. Often, those manga are still running (hence why they're more likely to get an anime instead of a completed one) and being written, so when the anime catches up to the point where the manga is they have to do one of three things:
- Stop the anime for a while to allow for the manga to get ahead again. This is the least likely thing to happen as it loses them the money they would otherwise make with the anime.
- Start making episodes stretch a bit more. This is what usually happens - in-episode filler. Extra character interactions, longer fights and the like. This is what happened with DBZ.
- Filler arcs. This is also something that happens pretty often, especially with longer-running anime. Think Naruto, with the asinine filler arcs. (Or the actually mainly pretty decent One Piece arcs. It is possible to do it right.)
- Non-canonisation. This is very rare and I know of only one big series that did this - Full Metal Alchemist. This is why there's two versions of the show - one that was created to fill the end in while the mangaka was still writing and one that is the proper version, added after the manga was completed. (This is my favourite way because double the anime!) Probably best for reasonably shorter anime.

Now that you know that, back to Sailor Moon.
I've heard some people who never saw the original complain about the anime so far. Mainly because they're seeing it without the nostalgia factor or knowing what the original was like. What they can see is the cliches all over the place, and yes, the whole show is pretty standard when you come down to it - but when it first came out it was amazing and we know it gets better as it goes.

I know that the Japanese version will be keeping the homosexual elements in, so it'll be interesting to see whether certain scenes get censored with the English version or not, too. They were in the original series...

The graphics are definitely very nice. Voice acting is appropriately grating when it comes to Dumpling Head, but I'm sure she'll get better as she goes - like in the original. I've been keeping an eye on this for a while, so I knew as soon as the first episode was released~
French dubs aired over here when I was a kid but I never got hooked up. The plot was stupid, the sailors' hand gestures were so silly and they had awful high-pitched voices.
I always liked Naoko Takeuchi's smooth, curvy art style though and I feel that it should be part of my culture. I suppose I'll give the manga a go.

Based on looks only I like Jupiter because she stands out. But Mars' apparent fiery personality might prove to my liking.
