RPG MAKER ON A MAC

I know this topic has probably been beaten to death, but the solutions are all constantly changing and being outdated, and every case is different, so I thought I'd come here for some help.

I used every RPG Maker ever released on a PC, but when I got a Mac I had the Windows Parallels for a couple years until that stopped working (the version I got was no longer being supported... Or something.) And then I could only rely on the PCs on the school campus. Well, now I've graduated and it's just me and my Mac.

Now I know there are a plethora of ways to install RPG Makers (I'm specifically interested in VX) on a Mac, but there is a common problem I've been running into.

All RPG Maker installers come in two parts. The actual software and the RTP. When I've tried something like CrossOver or WineBottler, everything works seemingly perfectly until I try to launch the program, at which point it tells me the RTP is not installed. The folders for the RMVX system files and the RTP are installed in at least 3 places on my Mac, but somehow these "Windows on a PC" tricks can't seem to handle the whole RTP thing.

All the tutorials on how to run RPG Makers on a mac are from years ago, Wine is a completely different app then it was in 2009.

So does anyone know a way, now in 2014, to run RPG Maker VX on a Mac?

(This is doubly annoying since I don't even plan on using ANY of the RTP graphics anyway.)
Buy an actual PC :D

Okay, serious. I know this isn't intuitive, but you could try installing an older version of wine. One that has the solutions you found. I know this isn't exactly a good idea, but unless if you're using the Windows emulator for anything else other than VX, this will be a good fall back.

Not sure what causes the problem though, as I never had a mac (and never will). I do use virtual box on ubuntu, and Ace works fine in it. Maybe some of the other guys here have an actual solution available...
So far, only RM2K3 worked for me but I had two issues:
1:Each time a new MP3 is played when the RPG_RT starts off, it only plays for the first time and loops as needed. For example the first regular battle has regular music and when the battle ends, the field music stops playing. The next battle has no music.

2:You can't copy and paste.

RMVX also works but hates MIDI.

Even newspapers have those nowadays.

if you're using the Windows emulator

Wine Is Not Emulator!

Anyway, midis are common problem when it comes to RPG Makers. I've once written a "howto" about fixing midis in 2k/2k3 on RM 2003 Wine AppDB page (doesn't work for XP and newer, tried it), but I'm almost sure tools I've used are Linux-only.

Also never got problems regarding music (the loop thing you mentioned) and copying/pasting. Sure, clipboard is "magically" erased after you close program for some reason (at least happened to me when I was using Linux), but copying within program worked fine.

There were only two issues I've encountered while using 2k3 on wine:
- You can't playback movies as game crashes when you try to
- Switching from map editing layer to event layer takes few seconds (from what I've gathered it seems to be rendering issue). Not really serious if you don't switch back and forth and first do map, then events, but can get annoying after a while.

Unfortunately I can't help you with running either of those as I don't have a mac or use UNIX-derived OS anymore.

Does anybody care to share any actual methods to getting RMVX to run on a Mac instead of just listing out of context problems?
ntzrmtthihu777 made scripts for playonlinux (POL manage wine versions for you, make installation process painless for popular software...etc)

This is the url for the rpg maker vx script:
http://save-point.org/mydownloads.php?action=view_down&did=76

The download description mentions that it could work under mac.

After creating an account on save-point.org that link takes me to the page for "my" downloads, of which there are zero. is there an actual source to this guys script?

Any reason you can't just use Boot Camp?

I'm not a fan of having to power down and restart in an OS that has 0% of my stuff installed on it.

You're pretty much just screwed. If you want to use RPG Maker, get a PC.

In fact, not only is it very difficult to do, but it breaks the EULA to do it in the first place if you use the RTP at all. The RTP is only licensed for use on Windows.
does EnterBrain seriously not understand that they are cutting out a large market these days? I would absolutely pay for RPG Maker if it was on Mac and I know dozens of people who would too. I don't want to use illegal means, but I'm not about to buy a brand new computer for hundres/thousands of dollars just to run one single app.

Mac (and Linux) really aren't a very large market. There's just a very vocal minority that demands support and they usually end up pirating the end result anyway. If you care about getting niche software, then get a PC.
re: I'm not going to pay hundreds/thousands of dollars just to run one single app.
Then until EB decides to port to Mac and Linux (if ever) you're left with things like Wine or Boot Camp, but those options generally present their share of woes. I'm not sure if EB will ever port to Mac or Linux. There's talk about exports for the games created, but not sure if the tools for actually creating those games will ever be supported on other platforms.
