INTRODUCING MYSELF, I GUESS.
Posts
Hey.
So, I've been lurking here for around 3 weeks? Something like that. I want to make my own games but I still have to learn how to actually use RPGMaker... right now I'm focusing on college.
I'm 21, or just about and I live in Australia. I like playing games that feel like a complete package with how everything ties together, I guess my favourite RMN game would be Chain of Retribution? I really liked Yume Nikki (in retrospect. That game was not made for people with no sense of direction!), Ib, Wadanohara and the Blue Sea and Mimicry Man. To be honest, I still haven't played many RPGMaker games but I have played loads of console videogames.
The kind of games I want to make are usually a bit silly, I have one planned that features "apathy" as a game mechanic. Though first I'll have to get used to... programming, pixel art and RPGMaker. About the only things that I can do right now are writing and drawing... and rambling, obviously :P
I delurked to make an article about how to get older RPGMaker games to run on the (completely stupid) newer editions of the Windows OS. Since it was something that bugged *me* for a long time I went ahead and made an account.
I guess I'm introducing myself cause that's what you're meant to do when you become a member. I figure I might as well also include a question? Uh, how long does it take for submissions to get accepted? How long do they pend for?
Dumb question, I know...

Welcome! though i guess technically you've been on here longer than me but still hi
We've got really similar taste in games, Wadanohara is amazing.
And don't worry if you poke enough buttons in rpg maker you'll figure it out eventually! I'll be interested in seeing your games once you figure it out, apathy as a game mechanic sounds really neat.

You know, programming and pixel art aren't that necessary at first. Don't stress too much on that right now.
About the games? It varies. Could take between 30 seconds to a week, depending on various factors.
Just be patient, and wait for the mod's decision.
Good luck!

Hey
Let's see some of the drawings. You're clearly proficient at writing and rambling :3 (though not as good as me at rambling)
And what specifically is so stupid about the newer version of Windows? I used to feel that way but I've found a way to change my mind.

Ebeth: Yeah, it's great. the art is so cute <3 But god I hated the battles lol. It's a reverse dating sim without many visual novel elements? Ahaha, all of my ideas are weird. The girl with the poofy hair below is from that game.
Karin: Nah, review and an article though I guess it'd work around the same?
Link: Backwards compatability and a case of It sucks because they changed it I guess. Windows 2000 is still my favourite!
Anyway, here are some drawings i've done for various game ideas. I like to have a different aesthetic for every game... it's a little hard to do when I really only use one main style. With mobile picture quality... sorry! First, traditional drawings and then... MS Paint lol.

It's nice to meet everyone!

Welcome!
So you say what kinda RPG maker games you played, but not the console ones - for shame, I'd love to hear you ramble on ;)
Good luck on your endeavors!
And also, submissions need to be manually checked, so it mainly depends on the what kind of day you're submitting it. It usually takes a couple of days, so don't worry.

Console games,huh?
Man I could really get a ramble going talking about those! I never had a NES or gameboy but I've played loads onwards from the Sega era.
I loved the original crash bandicoot, spyro, sonic the hedgehog, paper mario, mario sunshine, smash bros. melee, starfox etc. Loved Dark Cloud.
Then on the pc I guess there was Unreal tournament, Rayman 2, Noone lives forever 2, Heaps of internet games like super collapse and dream chronicles...
Even on my phone and ipad I played Bastion, some wind game?, Infinity blade (all three) and various square enix ports and new releases. Also heaps of games by the company that made game dev story.
Loved the combat system in Bayonetta, Metroid gameplay, Persona 3 and 4 in general, Dangan Ronpa was great, TWEWY gameplay, Phoenix Wright gameplay, Kingdom Hearts games were pretty fun and my official entry into the world of RPGMaker games was the Aveyond series, which I still love! <3
(Too rambley, right?)
Yeah, so games... I could go on :P

Haha :)
Not too rambly at all, you didn't even point of the best parts or complained about a lack of stuff!
Oh, the original crash bandicoot and spyro were something .. that little critter sparked my love for dragons and monsters.
Good classics. Good plays.
And played of my favorites Persona 3 and 4!
Oh yeah, what camp are you in - 3 or 4? Which is better? : D
Man, I miss those useless discussions

The best parts? Every videogame I played seemed like something completely different, they were all awesome in their own way. I loved it in Dark Cloud how going through dungeons actually got you bits of the world and you had to fix it back up. Really loved the racing levels in crash bandicoot and the little animals. spyro's fire breath... I've got way too much to go on about here lol.
And complaints: I really hate when a franchise gets popular and executives appoint other people to work on the games and milk the franchise for every cent they can get. Ugh, I swear videogames were better before we started this stupid graphics race... Releasing the same game with different graphics over and over isn't innovative, it's cheap.I used to really keep up with the videogame industry but now? Bleh.
As for the Persona camps... to be honest I think it's all a bit silly. Persona 3 and 4 are great games that have their own merits so I really can't compare them. They feel too different for me to do that. Like if you asked me if I liked Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2 better I just wouldn't know what to say. Persona 3 is more dark and Persona 4 is lighter and more comedic. I enjoyed them both :)

No, wait, I do have a favourite. P3P let me play as a girl and still be a massive pimp! (So the girl route)
author=Link_2112the general direction of "making things simpler" which turned into a monstrous "make half of the setting in one place, half in the other, and nothing is where it used to be so hahaha fuck you windows power users!"
And what specifically is so stupid about the newer version of Windows? I used to feel that way but I've found a way to change my mind.
in general.
Anywho, welcome to RMN! That's some nice art. What's Persona?
JRPG with visual novel elements and standard turn battle system in a dungeon/dungeons depending on which you play. Published by ATLUS and very popular with a lot of western game players since the Persona 3 got localized.
In the persona games you get to summon a fighter for yourself (the persona) and then you usually have a goal to work towards which differs in each game. They're really fun!
If you like seeing a bunch of teenagers shoot themselves in the head every battle I recommend Persona 3. If you like giant stuffed teddy bears I reccomend Persona 4.
Anyway this video explains everything :) (just ignore the japanese bits at the start)
Also thanks and nice to meet you, though I've already seen you while lurking but then again I guess that applies to most people who join... :)

What's Persona?
Spinoff series of the SMT series which is originally also a spinoff-series.
But instead of battling demons (all kinds of mythologic creatures with description and origin viewable) as enemies, they're now summonable as a "persona".
Although the term actually comes from a psychological phenomenum which is also what the games build on.
A persona (literally mask) is the "face" or "mask" you wear around other people - assuming the role of a teacher, you will act differently from when you act as a father.
Which is why the persona-series goes deals more with psychological issues and symbolism. And has depth despite the happy flavor.
(in that regards .. persona 4 is darker than people give it credit for. themewise. not that it mattered)
But as you can see from the descriptions alone, people play it for different reasons ;) It's still a very good jrpg-series.
Persona 1 and 2 are grindey dungeoncrawler. Certainly not bad, but the age does show. You can at least fight Hitler in the second one because some rumor came to life.
Persona 3 and 4 are a lot more lighthearted, and half-sim. I'd generally recommend 4 for a multitude of reasons, it's more well-rounded, although both are very good.
Your drawings :o Is that guying tearing his face off? I like the rest, well I liked the face guy too. The rest looks like anime with a Disney spin haha It actually works.
Hmm, yeah the backwards compatibility thing is pretty bad. But their stupid changes can be reversed. I totally agree about they're ease of use agenda, but in most cases there are settings that people don't get around to looking for :/ I remember that thing about Windows Vista? or 7, started asking for a confirmation on everything you do. People freaked out and it was a simple change in the options xD
It's true that I can never find the setting I'm looking for haha I always have to google how to do something like create a PIN instead of a password.
I guess I'm one of the lucky one's with almost no compatibility issues and I have my desktop looking and working exactly like it did with WinXP. Which version do you have now?
Have you played Soul Blazer on SNES? It has the same 'unlock the town' feature as Dark Cloud. I've always wanted to make a game with that mechanic.

I gotta say the anime/disney comment is something I have never heard before. Really? To be honest the art's kinda loosely inspired by the adorable anime art found in Mogekos' games. And the face guy stands out cause he's a concept sprite from a horrorish game lol. There are some others like him I've done but coming up with the sprite ideas is pretty hard...
I've got Windows 7. I have no sense of direction... and that also applies to digital things so I'm kinda lost with it. Had to google inserting scene breaks in word for example... mega fail.
Soul Blazer looks pretty cool. Does it have a port? I'd love to try it. And I think playing a game with that same mechanic would be pretty fun, my favourite part of rpgs is collecting stuff and collecting parts of a world is even cooler!
Not sure about dating sim elements in P1 and 2. Haven't played far enough yet. The hitler thing is pretty cool but sadly I got the other version... I was so dissapointed when I found out!
And the character level topic looks cool. Thanks, I'll do it now :3

...
No, they don't. That's why I set them apart.
They are much more dungeon-crawler focused, the enemies are actual demons as well.
Persona 2 is actually split into two, Inocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. The first is available as a port for psp, the latter only as the ps1 version on psn (or, ps1, of course. damn pricey, though)
And in Innocent Sin, you fight Hitler, yes.

I haven't played Eternal Punishment yet, unfortunately. So that might be why I haven't gotten as much out of it as I could. It's not as good story-wise, but the themes and ideas are all there.
The PSP version is far too easy, though, at least go for hard should you ever pick it up^^
But enough derailing : D
Sorry, blessbunny
No worries Kylalia. I love derails!
...Now if only I could get someone to rant about all my old gamecube games to XD

I'll just drop this here and leave:
The GBA era is the golden age of console gaming. No other console entertained much better than the GBA.
