What I'm Looking For
Note:Because this was brought up by another user, "Badb" is pronounced as follows: BIb (rhymes with jibe).
I am looking for quite a bit and all I have to back me up is my writing skills. I believe strongly that my writing would translate very well into a game. I'm looking for anyone and everyone who shares an interest in working on an RPG project with me. These are the types of people I need:
Why should you be interested in helping me?
Because I'm awesome! Joking aside, I will let my own writing speak for itself. Because I don't see a file attachment option all interested parties please feel free to message me and I would be willing to email you an example of my work (that is if my description of Project Badb doesn't interest you enough). If there is another way you'd like to go about it feel free to post your suggestions.
Other reasons you should be interested in working with me are as follows: I am dedicated. I work hard for what I believe in, and am extremely thorough. I don't want to create something that's been done before. I want to create something new and sweeping that takes people on an emotional, grand journey filled with dangers and adventures aplenty that they won't be likely to forget anytime soon.
I believe in the development of characters. The player must care for the characters as if they were real for any game to be a success. This is something that is extremely important to me and something that I will not budge on (I have been influenced by role playing when it comes to character development). If you are the kind of person who likes to take shortcuts in your work than please move on. The game I am planning on is something important to me and will most definitely not be a short project.
I shall do all the writing for the game, lore and story wise, and I'm also a voice actor whose vocal range is enough to do multiple characters (that is if the decision is made to include voice acting within the game). That's two for the price of one (of course no ones getting paid here so don't get too excited!).
What is Project Badb?
Project Badb is the story of the Gods and Goddesses. It is of Celtic origin and will take place on the continent of Aramoch where Tuatha Dé Dananns (the humans of the game) and Fomorians (the monsters of the game) have been fighting in countless wars against each other since the Tree of Life was first cut down. Each race blames the other for the destruction of the Tree of Life and it is the source of their hatred for one another.
On the 15th day of the lunar month known as Beth, in the year of Badb, a war unlike any previous war(s) waged between the Tuatha Dé Dananns and the Fomorians. Countless lives were lost and the land was soaked with the blood of both races. When finally it looked as if both sides were ready to withdraw to take toll of the lives lost and amass more able bodies to continue the war, the Goddess Badb herself came down in all her furious glory.
All dropped to their knees for to stand and view the Goddess of fertility and war in all of her light and splendor would surely strip away the life of any mortal being. Her voice rang out strong and true all throughout the continent of Aramoch, "Hear me Tuatha Dé Dananns and Fomorians! The ravens feast on your dead and in this hour of darkness it has been decided among the Gods that mortal life, whether it be human or monstrous, reeks so foul that it no longer should be allowed to plague this world! Unless proven otherwise 100 years from now this world shall be visited by a great evil meant to wipe away Tuatha Dé Dananns and Fomorians alike! Heed my words! Already this has been set in motion! Unite or die!"
...80 years later Cynbel, a baby boy is born into the world. The Great Fog rolls in and swallows all in its terrible wake... Fate is not kind to those who are slow. What is Cynbel's role in all of this? That is for you (the player) to decide! Will Cynbel lead the Tuatha Dé Dananns and Fomorians into a peace or will he bring about the destruction of the world?
This is Project Badb. Political strife, intrigue, and characters you will fall in love with, and at other times hate. Choices that shape the future of Aramoch, whether they be for good or for bad. A world where the Gods and Goddesses all have their own goals and agendas, some for their own selfish purposes, and others to help in any way possible.
Help me to achieve my dream of realizing this game that has haunted my imagination since I was a child, and I promise that you will not be disappointed!

(To be updated)
Cynbel~Cynbel was abandoned as a baby in the Forest of Flidais for unknown reasons. A clan of Bauchan (hobgoblins) took pity on the child and decided to raise him as their own, teaching him the ways of the Fomorians. On his tenth birthday Cynbel is told the truth of the world and how within ten years the world he knows shall cease to exist.
One night he is visited in his dreams by the Goddess Badb informing him that he must seek out the Tuatha Dé Dananns and learn their ways as he has learned the ways of the Fomorians, and in turn teach the Tuatha Dé Dananns what he has learned from the Fomorians. The Goddess Badbe tells him that when he has completed this he must travel back to the Fomorians and teach them the ways of the Tuatha Dé Dananns.
Cynbel does not immediately understand how hard the task that he has been given, truly is (due to the animosity shared between the Tuatha Dé Dananns and Fomorians), but Cynbel is headstrong, and will do whatever it takes to complete his mission. The Fomorians are his family and he cannot bear the thought that all will come to an end because of hate.
Alonna~Alonna is a Druidess (female Druid/witch; "wise woman." Note: I wouldn't suggest calling Alonna a witch unless you're looking to get your hair set on fire) who ends up journeying with Cynbel to try and help him complete his task. She is fourteen and has been kicked out of her home village of Penmaerd as all magick(s) has been outlawed in most of Aramoch. She is a rare Druidess as her abilities in the art of magick are well above what they should be for her age. Gifted with the site she seeks to put an end to the Great Fog
The Great Fog~The Great Fog is an entity that first appeared eighty-five years after the coming of Badb and her warning to both the Tuatha Dé Dananns and the Fomorians. It is a great, misty-black cloud that has already swallowed up a large part of the eastern end of Aramoch. The towns that it has taken over are silent. No one is seen coming out of them and those who dare to go into the Great Fog are never seen or heard from again. Is this the great evil that Badb warned of... Or is it something entirely else?
Badb~Badb is one of the three aspects of war (three separate Goddesses) known as Morrígna. Sometimes known as Badb Catha ("battle crow") among both the Tuatha Dé Dananns and the Fomorians, she is a feared and respected deity (as all the three aspects of war should be). Badb has been known to appear throughout Aramoch's history right before great tragedies struck to shape the future of the continent.

author=unityNo, I have tried but I'm afraid I'm just not very talented when it comes to coding and all that is required to work with RPG Maker. That is why I've decided to stick with writing since that is where it seems that my talents lean most strongly towards.
Have you made any games before?
author=Morrighan
The player must care for the characters as if they were real for any game to be a success.
I appreciate writers who put a lot of work into their characters. What are the main characters like?
What are your views about and how skilled would you say you are when it comes to writing:
-Characters,
-Character development,
-Plot,
-and Dialogs?
Would you instead be ready to help another game designer with their project?

author=unityThe cast of main characters are still being worked on but here's who I have so far (characters of little importance are not included at this time but shall be added later):author=MorrighanI appreciate writers who put a lot of work into their characters. I will be adding more later tonight but I have to go to help clean out my grandmother's garage at the moment! Also know that these are short summaries, descriptions of character's physical appearances shall be added later. Some things I don't want to reveal about the characters either because the emotional impact would be taken away from the game. Enjoy!
I've worked on a rough sketch of Alonna. This is obviously not what her portrait would look in-game but it could possibly work to give an idea to an artist as to what I'm sort of trying to do. Critiques/suggestions welcomed!

author=AveeWhen I am writing character development and dialogs I use a method that I have found works very well in other stories (and the novel I am currently working on). I'm not a writer when writing. I am a character. I have to think, what would I do in this situation? How would I solve this particular problem? Do I stand and fight, or do I run? In this way my mind isn't just in writing mode, but it's in and apart of the world that I'm writing about.
What are your views about and how skilled would you say you are when it comes to writing:
-Characters,
-Character development,
-Plot,
-and Dialogs?
Would you instead be ready to help another game designer with their project?
Dialogue has to feel normal and not jarring to the player. Some cases this is obviously not possible as the game is set in a fantasy setting so the speech of say a deity or a Fomorian isn't exactly going to fit that "normal" speech mold.
The way I want to do plot development for Project Badb is a bit different from the norm, and I am not certain at this time if it is even possible with RPG Maker. I want to give the player choices, and with those choices consequences (whether they be good or bad consequences depends on the choice made). I see Project Badb as being a trilogy of games with each game focusing on a different aspect of war (three different Goddesses).
For the first game plot development will largely focus on the "Great Fog" and the political landscape of Aramoch. The political struggle within the game will focus on a ban of all magick within Aramoch, and how this has affected a continent that is largely made up of magical beings. Most of the Tuatha Dé Dananns have grown suspicious and resentful towards any forms of magick. With the coming of the Great Fog their resentment towards the Gods and the Goddesses (deities who have made magick possible in Aramoch) is at an all time high, as they believe they are being punished.
Corrupt politicians use the suspicions of the masses to their advantage making ridiculous laws and bans against magick, claiming that it is for the protection of all Tuatha Dé Dananns (in truth they seek to stay in power). Some are now going so far as to try and push new laws and bans against the worship of all deities, saying that nothing but pain and suffering has resulted in the Tuatha Dé Dananns' involvement with the different deities over the course of history. In time you (the player) may begin to ask if maybe the involvement of the deities really has caused nothing but suffering...
How skilled would I say I am as a writer? Well, I know I'm better than quite a bit of published authors (this may sound extremely arrogant to some, but please go read one of Terry Goodkind's Sword of the Truth books... I just got done through cringing through the fourth one in the series and have yet to gain the needed courage required to slog through the fifth book in the series. Surprisingly it has a rating of 4/5 on amazon...). I'm fairly confident in my ability as a writer, but I know I'm still not the best obviously. I work at it each day and get better though.
Now to answer your last question: "Would you instead be ready to help another game designer with their project?" My answer: I would be willing to help others if they were willing to help me. I don't believe that's an unfair exchange. If someone presents a project that interests me enough than I might even be willing to help without asking for help in return.
Ok thanks.
About your sketch I'd say that she looks eerie due to her eyes being wide open and the many lines of hair passing over her face. I don't know if that's what you wanted to go for. More relaxed eyelids and no hair over her face would give her a more natural, neutral look.

author=AveeIt's meant to look eerie. I want to sort of stay away from the cute, stereotypical girl-look that seems to be so common in JRPGs. I sort of want a stylized appearance for character portraits. Think Celtic symbology. Wild, crazy, a little bit scary even.
Ok thanks.

Celtic lore and mythology is violent and bloody a lot of the time. The Gods and Goddesses are often depicted as something to be feared since they cause more chaos and enjoy playing with the lives of mortals like chess pieces. I'm hoping to be able to reflect that wild chaos through the appearance of the game too.
Well, I updated and added an example of voice-work but for some reason it says "This track is currently not available," over the soundcloud even though I have it set to public.
Can someone tell me if it appears this way for them too? If it does try clicking on it and seeing if it takes you to my page where it should be available to play. Also if anyone knows how to fix this issue be a sport and do share! Thanks!
EDIT: Problem has been solved!

author=SnowOwlWithout you saying anything besides that, kind of isn't giving me a real reason... Why do you think I should rename my project? Unless you're clueless about Celtic lore and think that "Badb" is some corny name or code-name for "Bad boy," I don't see why you'd think it should be changed.
You should probably rename your project.
"Badb" is pronounced "BIb" (rhymes with "jibe").
Don't really care if asshole means wonderful in dingdongian,
just like I don't care that bad means whatever in Celtic lore. It's hard to take project bad seriously.

author=SnowOwlI'm sorry you feel that way, but it's kind of rude of you to spit upon another language. I've already explained it and even added a pronunciation for it in my main post. If you still have a problem then I guess it can't be helped.

Also it's not just "bad," it's "Badb." I think the general public is intelligent enough to know the difference... Especially since I have it explained first thing in my original post.
author=sinneliusI'm not exactly sure what you mean. Can you be a bit more specific? One person's taboo is another's normal way of life.
Mythical stories reminds me of Game of Thrones.
Do you avoid terrible scenes and taboo?
Jesus, stop acting like such a special snowflake, I'm not spitting on any language. I'm just saying it like anyone would see it. You wanna name it project bad, sure, be my guest. Just saying, it might not be the best idea if you want to be taken seriously.
The name of a game is the first thing you see, and I assure you that most people probably will think it's a comedy game with a name like that, even if it's super serious bizniz in Celtic.
At least change the name to Badb Catha so that it's understood that it's a name. Most people don't know Celtic, and it's not like it's THAT important that you call it precisely project bad(b), right?

author=SnowOwlIt's not even the title of the game... It's just a placeholder. I don't see the need to change it. It's clearly explained. It's the first thing you see when reading my original post (as I've explained before...).

Anyways I'm not going to argue over this any further. If you have actual helpful suggestions besides something that isn't even a problem (since it's clearly explained) than feel free to make them.
This project is on hiatus for now as I've come to realize that I should help others and gain some respect and renown. If there is a moderator around, feel free to close this thread or move it since I plan on starting another thread listing my capabilities to help others, and don't want two of my threads taking up unneeded space. Thank you.
