GAME DESIGN HELP

Hello, karmakakes here and I have a request. (I am new to this site so this may be in the wrong board) I am needing some help with making my RPG, Brihitus. And I don't know if I should ask for someone to create the game's looks for me, or if I should ask for help on which RPG creator to use. So, if you have any advice or anything bat all, please let me know. Thanks.
More details about the game itself would be appreciated.
Like, what is the game? The story or plot that you concocted?
How is it played? ATB? Turn-based? Real-time strategy?
Hard to help you if we don't know much about your game, bar the title.

Hmm, okay. That makes sense. Should I tell you here?

Yeah, we can't really help you if you don't give us details. But I do want to point this out:
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like there's a LOT of details that are still up in the air for your game, and you're not entirely sure what kind of help you need. I'd recommend planning out what you WANT to do for the game, then figuring out what you CAN do, and then asking for help.
Is this your first or one of your first projects? Because if it is, then there are a couple things you should be aware of:
- Start small. I don't know how big a project Brihitus is planned to be, but I would put it on the backburner if it's more than 5 hours. Hell, my first game took me over a year to make, and it's only about 5-6 hours! And I'm STILL learning new things about the engine.
- You learn nothing by having others do stuff for you. Some things, like art or music, some people just don't have any kind of skill or desire to acquire the skill for. But if you don't TRY, then how will you know you have either? If you REALLY don't want to draw custom assets, then use RTP. There's no shame in it.
Hope this helps for now. If you're willing to share more details on your game and what exactly you need help with, we'll do our best to help!
Aside: I'm pretty sure this should go under Help Me! But enough people post requests both here and there that it's probably not worth bringing up. Oh well...

OKAY! Sorry, I seem sort of like a huge newbie, and I am. And It may sound a little weird, but I'm actually still in high school, and I'm very limited on what I can and can not do. I may not even be old enough to even want to start programming and such, and my dad refuses to help me (even though he's a programming wizard). I guess you may be right, I don't know what help I need. I tend to be one of those people who wants to jump in immediately and do it right the first time. But I know that's not how any of this works.
I need experience and I know I will have to gain some. I am trying so hard to make this possible for me. And I know I can't do it on my own. I still have a ways to go before I can actually start putting the game together. I may be over thinking, or maybe I'm just not ready. But I don't want to forget this idea.
(If any of that even made sense)

LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

A lot of people are still in high school (too many! hurry up and get old!), and RPG Maker is actually pretty forgiving for people who just want to jump in immediately. One of the nice things about it is all the default stuff built into it - so if the first thing you do is make a town, you can play through that town, even if you haven't made any characters or graphics or animations or a combat system or come up with your title yet.
RPG Maker VX Ace Lite is the free version of RPG Maker VX Ace, so if you're on a tight budget that's a great place to start. There is a limit to how big your game can be in it, but it'll give you a really good taste, and people have actually made complete games in it. There's also a different version called the Trial version that doesn't have any size limits but only works for 30 days. The Lite version doesn't have a time limit.
If you're starting a project I would recommend at least figuring out some basics about your game:
If this is your first project, try making a really short, very traditional, turn-based RPG. Like, one dungeon long. The amount you will learn from this will be huge. RPG Maker VX Ace Lite would be perfect for this.

If you're starting a project I would recommend at least figuring out some basics about your game:
- A basic plot outline is probably a necessity, even if you change parts of it halfway through. I think figuring out the length is actually pretty important.
- Figuring out what kind of gameplay you want is important, otherwise you're going to end up adding different systems that don't work well together. You don't need to know exactly how it'll all work, but making a game like Final Fantasy 7 is a very different process from making one like Skyrim, even though those are both RPGs. One suggestion might be to figure out one or two key games that you like, and try to figure out what it is you like about them, and use them as models. You can try to make your game play similarly to them.

It made perfect sense. We've all been there. I think I'm STILL there.
That statement alone proves you're on the right track. I wish I knew that when I started my first game...
Anyway, here's what you should do to get started: Download RPG Maker VX Ace Lite. It's totally free and allows you to get the feel of VX Ace (the most newbie friendly of the makers in my opinion). With it, you can play around with switches, variables, mapping, and all the other fun stuff that devs use. Learn the ropes of how RPG maker works. Download some games here to get a feel for how they did things.
As for Brihitus: write it down. That way, you can put it on the backburner and add ideas as time goes on. Try implementing ideas in VX Ace Lite, and see if it's feasible.
EDIT: Got ninja'd by LockeZ. He pretty much said everything I wanted to say, but better. Just ignore me...

No! I think you are both wonderful for understanding. I might try out RPG Maker VX Ace Lite. It sounds good. I will definitely give it a shot.
