(IN NEED) GAME IDEAS FOR A FIRST PROJECT

I am looking for ideas for a first project. Tutorials are great and all, but sooner or later beginners like me need a practice project and good criticism. In other words, give this bambi a challenge.
I'd recommend making a short game for your first project. What kind of stories do you like? Anything special as far as battle systems or mechanics that interest you?

Make a game about going to a market to pick up groceries for making Stone Soup.
It has to at least be an hour long.
No random encounters. You can see the bad guys on the map.
Try to think up as many uses for items as you can, instead of using skills.
Along with starting small, you can try making a game out of a randomly generated plot. You know, one of those 'writing prompts' out there in the net.
This way, you worry less about coming up with a story, and more on getting the grasp of the game engine you are using. The first game's almost always a test game, anyway.

Figure out something you really like ("I like it when a group of people come together and grow to see each other as family" "I like it when I can mix and match skills and have a really customizeable cast" "I like punching a lot of monsters and damage counters with really big numbers" "I like custom shipping systems", etc.) and then brainstorm an idea based around it.
Sorry, bud, no one is gonna do this for you. But really, that's half the fun of it! Think about what kinds of games YOU really like, and what kind of game YOU want to make, and the rest will come. I have ended up with a surprisingly non-lethal game about people awkwardly interacting with each other and a lot of goofy humour, and I'm really happy with that. You will figure out the thing you are happy to make, too.

An RPG that tells the origin story of Dig Dug. His upbringing, who taught him to dig, what caused his inflation fetish fixation.
Assuming you're here to make an RPG, I'd see what kind of short story you can tell in a very short game that takes place in a single area, like a town or dungeon. Test yourself to see how cleverly you can use the basic tools and RTP. By the time you're finished, not only will you have a totally completed game to your name, but you'll feel way more comfortable with the process of making games and with your toolkit!

This.
Start small. Find a story that doesn't need too many locations, and is focused and tightly wound up. Then, tinker with the various tools in the engine to get used to them and try to discover neat things you can do with the battle engine.
Not only is this good practice, but you'll have a much greater chance of actually finishing a project.
