DILEMMA - TO MAKE THE SPRITE SMALLER, OR THE ENVIRONMENT LARGER?

Thank-you for the help.
If anyone wants to further discuss sprite sizes, go ahead.

I'm at the planning stage for an rpg I wish to make, but I've run into this problem and am interested in hearing some opinions on the matter.

Thank-you.

smaller sprite
more of an 'old-school' feel
can fit a few buildings on the screen at a time - world feels more open/explorable

larger sprite
more detailed sprite
can only fit one building on the screen at a time - world feels limited

it feels like with the larger sprite, it almost seems pointless to have four-directional movement
and while I considered the idea of a side-scroller, I kind of want that open-world feeling.
I'd go with the smaller sprite. The small one looks big enough as far as details are concerned and the big one takes up way too much space.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

The big one is way too big, the player won't be able to see anything more than about six steps away from herself or himself. There's a reason you almost never see this in games that have any kind of exploration, such as RPGs or platformers. In RPGs that have a separate screen for battles, a close-up view like that is often used in battle segments where the extra detail doesn't interfere with anything.
Thank-you. After looking at it a bit more you're both right, the second sprite is ridiculously large.

Would something inbetween the two still be too large?

I guess I became too attached to the idea of creating detailed sprites.
(Although the small one is starting to grow on me..)

can't make a bad game if you don't finish any games

That's still quite large, yes. Think of it in terms of paces.

That'd be appropriate size for an action game, perhaps. Even games like Transistor will zoom out a bit further than that, though.
