Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

So Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have come out pretty much everywhere except Europe. (I'm looking at you, Italy...) I pretty much lost interest in pokemon after gen 4, but a reboot of my childhood I must have. I've played emerald for too many hours not to buy this. Seeing OR and AS are already out in various parts of the world, have any of you bought it? What are your first impressions? Should I get Ruby or Sapphire? Are these newfangled gen 5 and 6 mechanics much different from the original gen 3?
You should play Black and White 1 and 2. They're great games, some of the best Pokemon titles currently released.
I haven't bought Alpha Sapphire yet, but I'm looking forward to it. X and Y were pretty crappy though so I'm a little worried.

I played the demo of the game. It's hard to judge since the demo is made to be completely different, but here I my thoughts:
Pro: The graphics actually look better compared to X&Y. Something about it makes everything more colorful and crisp.
Pro: Giving Mega-evos to starters was a good idea, since it gives players a bit more of an incentive to use it.
Pro: The music maintains some of the same elements that made the original R/S OST so great.
Con: There are still some framerate issues and lack of 3D utilization when playing it on the 3DS, a problem carried over from X&Y.
Overall, this title still holds some promise in my eyes. I'm skeptic of the reintroduction of hordes, but this game might actually be worth it this time around.

I ended up getting Omega Ruby the day it was released, and I had played the demo beforehand. The graphics in Omega & Alpha are modeled after the Ruby & Sapphire Anime, so if you thought Professor Birch was a large, bumbling oaf in the anime, well... I have some bad news for you.
I'm actually really disappointed by the games themselves. They carried over the new Exp. Share from X & Y, which causes you to be severely over-leveled for almost every battle in the game. I was more than ten levels stronger than most of the Elite Four, and I didn't even fight all the trainers in the game on my way through. I actually found myself avoiding them because I was tired of every battle being easy and pointless. The story got a major overhaul, but it's still only half there. Fellow trainers had their personalities improved, but they fill the same role. Customization went out the window, contests are back, and there's still very little post-game content, meaning Gen VI has yet to provide any substantial non-story content outside of online tournaments.
Oh, and they added a crazy new method of encountering wild Pokemon that will end up adding a couple hours of play time if you're not careful. In the end, I wish I hadn't spent $39.99 on it, but I'll just sell off Y Version to lessen the blow to my bank account.
EDIT: Lag is present. On a cartridge-based game. Yeah.

I went and got both, and I must say, I'm rather happy with the games at this point. Then again, it doesn't help that Hoenn is my favorite region...
@Backwards_Cowboy/Topic: Yeah, it seems like they nerfed a lot of the difficulty. I recently started over since I fucked up my team badly in my original run, (so I have yet to reach the late game) but I remember even the early game of the original being way harder than OR and AS are.
I don't understand a lot of the changes they made. Why cut out Dewford Cave and railroad the player into beating Brawly straight away? I always used to do the cave first in the original. They added some new characters that are just throwaway/annoying like that contest girl. They recycled most of the trainer and NPC graphics from X & Y, which is sad since RSE had some pretty nice looking sprites that I would've enjoyed seeing in 3D.
A lot of my complaints are nitpicky, yeah, but the culmination of all the small things can build up pretty heavily. Go ahead and call me out for wearing nostalgia goggles if you must, but whenever I play these games I'm just nagged by the thought of having paid ~50$ for a barely improved remake of a game I already own. They aren't as reprehensibly awful as X & Y, but I feel that this has more to do with them being based off of good games than being good games in of themselves.
Yeah, this is pretty shitty. Can the 3DS not handle showing two Pokemon models on the screen at the same time or...? A lot of the lag seems to come straight out of nowhere, as least judging by what's going on when it slows down.

It could handle several enemies being drawn on the same screen with Zelda: Link Between Worlds (with no lag and 3D capabilities), it could handle just about everything in Super Mario 3D Land. With these Pokemon games... It seems pretty evident that the developers hadn't yet grown accustomed to working with the 3DS before releasing the games. To my knowledge, OR/AS was in development at roughly the same time as X&Y, despite being released later, so I guess it's not a real surprise a lot of the same problems persist?
Also this sucks to hear. I really wanted to get this game but after hearing what it has to offer, It might be worth a skip (or who am I kidding?).
If you plan on buying it, DEFINITELY don't pay full price. I mean, no one game is worth ~50$ but this really isn't.
To tell you the truth, I'm probably going to trade in my Gen 6 games on something else next time I venture to EB Games.

I might be willing to pay $50 for the pair*. That's like one game.
* I'm not actually doing this. I don't have a 3DS and I still haven't finished Soul Silver, which I picked up nearly two years ago.
Makes me yearn for more fan games.

I'm doing the same once something big comes along that I want. Either the next big Zelda title or some kind of big RPG.
At this point I'm pretty sure OR/AS is just an expansion to X&Y. It just adds more Mega Evolutions and allows you to catch old legendary Pokemon while re-introducing contests.
