Sony is so fucking spineless. Not even gonna release it ONLINE? Seriously? I mean they already HACKED your shit, guys. The damage is already done.

I really want to like boycott all of Sony's products and services until they fucking grow a pair. Or something.

So apparently the Obama Administration is considering a response to this attack, now that they're almost certain it was the North Koreans who directed Guardians of Peace to do it. (I do personally believe they were behind it, it only makes sense considering Kim's egomania)

I wonder if they're actually going to do something meaningful? Or will they just "condemn" it like they do with most other shit?

As a side note: I do think it was interesting to directly identify Kim Jong-Un or whoever it is now in the movie. It was a unique move in my opinion, you don't often see movies use actual current heads of state as characters. In that regard, I almost can't blame the North Koreans for being concerned about the film, but I still think Sony has every right to release it.

Team America had Kim Jong-il and I don't recall North Korea getting into a national shit-fit* over that. Jong-Un just has a severe case of Small Penis Syndrome.

Then again:

"Dear Supreme Leader, the missile launch test was an extraordinary success. We believe that by 2038, we should be able to get a man on the moon. How he gets back to Earth, however, is his problem."

Release the damn movie; show it the world over. They can't do shit.

* Edit: At least anywhere near this magnitude. Then again, they can't even watch foreign TV of any kind without risking life in prison or execution. They're the equivalent of that whiny kid who sticks his fingers in his ears and refuses to listen to critique because he knows he's right.
The world in general has just gotten gradually more sensitive over time, I guess.

also that .gif is wonderful
...

I'm done. That is just ridiculous, jesus fucking christ.

Well, I guess we can all wave goodbye to Hollywood.
I'll play Devil's Advocate here.

This is nothing new. The Danish cartoons depicting Mohammed should still be fresh in everybody's memory. To my recollection, no movies (or other art forms) have been banned over hurt feelings (at least, not in Western countries). This, and the Danish cartoons, were banned because of overt acts. Riots in one case, hack attack followed by threats of violent retaliation by a leader of questionable mental stability in the other.

That said, where would this thread's conversation go if theaters had actually been bombed with hundreds of people killed? As much as I'm wholeheartedly in favor of Free Speech, I'm also not one to tell a person what I really think of them when I know it may pick a costly fight. Maybe a little tact is in order here.

And to people worried about a cascade effect, the film was banned by the film's owner, not government censors. Not even Hollywood, as incriminated more than once. Nope, it's just one pussy company getting cold feet.
But then you might be uncomfortable if your project was met with hostile action too.

Anyhoo, we like to make fun of the military difference between North Korea and the USA, but the truth is, open war with North Korea will destroy South Korea and much of that part of the world. It may trigger WW3 if China decides to step in on their behalf too. No thanks. Seth Rogan isn't that funny.
Don't worry, the movie will still see the light of day, even if it has to circulate underground (ie. all over bittorrent). Team America didn't make Kim Jong-Il go ape. Maybe Kim Jong-Un just needs a few years to drop his balls.

But what's the likelihood that a B-grade comedy movie is going to spark World War 3? I mean, let's think logically here for a second.

China defending North Korea from the U. S.? It'd destroy their economy.

Seriously though, China has their issues, but they're at least rational. "You started a war over low denominator movie and you want our help? Get real."
You can make an argument about hackers and terrorists, sure, but North Korea isn't going to start World War III over Seth Rogen and China damn sure aren't going to help them.

I know a lot of people might jerk off to fantasies of China secretly planning on rolling tanks down Pennsylvania Ave or whatever, but like it's been said, as of right now, that age is over and done with; the last thing they want (or we want, or anyone rational in charge of anything) wants is open war with your economically depedent trading partner.

Even if North Korea were dumb enough to want to do something stupid over a movie, best believe China would strangle them in their sleep before they even warmed up the DMZ.

Nobody is willing to start WWIII over Seth Rogen.
But guys, that would be the most hilarious thing to read about in a history book.

2014: WW3 starts because of a b-grade comedy movie.

I don't think it's completely fair to poke at Sony or whoever decided not to put the movie in theaters. Sure, everything would probably be fine, but on the off chance NK did bomb the USA... It's fine. It's equal to thinking that every movie after this of this nature is going to be censored now I think. The precedent was already there like Dyhalto already said.

man hearing this literally makes me want to fucking throw up...ok actually cause of my last couple statuses that's a bad figure of speech to use, but still...fuck you Hollywood. a thousand times fuck you Hollywood you UNBELIEVABLE disgusting cowards.

What the fuck why does no one care about Freedom of Speech?

Anyway I would LOVE IT if the US actually went to war with North Korea. Give us something worthwhile to do with all those fucking fighters and tanks that are bloating the defense budget beyond all sensible proportions. North Korea thinks it is an actual military power and would try to actually fight us, pitting military might against military might, so it would be an actual war, not a bullshit unwinnable counterinsurgency nightmare quagmire like our last several "wars", and we would ROFLSTOMP them, and it would be a huge morale win for pretty much everyone in the US. Damn it's been a while since we've had a "good" (i.e. morally just) war or a fucking WIN for that matter. Plus...goddamn they are asking for it.
Honestly, I have no idea what the heck 'The Interview' is. What I do know, is that NoKor, the laughingstock of the planet, is more than capable of wreaking havoc in East and South-East Asia. We already have China up our asses over here. We don't need another irrational warlord jumping into the scene.

But hey, if the lives of 1.5 billion people from third-world countries seem like a fair price for a westerner's laugh, go ahead.

karins_soulkeeper:

What are you even saying? North Korea, despicable cunts that they are, are not threatening to (continue) their campaign of atrocities in Asia if the movie is released. They are threatening to blow up US movie theaters.

So...wtf are you talking about? Honestly, North Korea is going to dick its own people and South Korea no matter what, and Kim Jong Un really needs to have his fucking block knocked off.
Err.. Must've over-reacted a bit. Sorry :3

But my point is that: it is not a very smart move to provoke someone that is unpredictable. Might as well just stop making fun of him before he does something rash..
