ANYBODY HERE LIKE AVANT GARDE ROCK MUSIC?
Posts
Stuff like Can, The Residents, Magma, Throbbing Gristle, Swans, Brian Eno, and Les Ralizes Denudes? Just curious if people here share my taste in awesome weird music.
Yeah, I like The Residents (though the only song I can remember readily is that Infant Tango one), and I'm familiar with the other bands you've mentioned as my father is into all of that (particularly Can), and basically I've had no choice but to listen to it for most of my life, haha.
I also like Soft Machine, Beefheart, Second Hand, Love, Amon Duul, the Mothers, the Fugs, Os Mutantes, etc. I'm guessing if you like that other music you would have listened to these bands!
(By the by, did you know that The Residents released a psychedelic/grotesque videogame called "Bad Day on the Midway"? I read about it a while ago on Hardcore Gaming 101, it's a decent article)

They made it into a videogame? I recall watching the computer short online I shall check that out. Oh yeah I know those bands as well. Can in particular for me as well. My all time fav band!
Oh yes but dude I am old so my Avant Garde is your I don't even know what.
I am a huge fan of The Mars Volta. You don't get more awesome weird than that.

Huh I'm not sure I get the I am old part because all the artist I named are far older than The Mars Volta, or were you being sarcastic?
author=Max McGeeAt least five of the bands TagoMago listed have been around since the 70's/early 80's. De-Loused in the Crematorium came out in, like, 2003. @_@

Anyway, does Ariel Pink counted as avant-garde rock? Because I like Ariel Pink (his stuff from this decade, anyway)
My ass. You've heard of Brian Eno at least. I know you have. Don't let me down kentona

I like awesome weird music, but I haven't heard of any of these bands.
Well then your missing out on the peak bands. I'd also Reccomend some Stauckhausen, and Pierre Schaeffer and perhaps John Cage if you're interested in composers.
author=Yellow MagicIs that the final boss in Super Metroid?

E:
seriously though, the only name on there I recognized as being a band was Mars Volta.
Oh sorry I thought you said pop rap. You said avant gardening rock. In that case I prefer Brokencyde or perhaps Aaron Carter. Why did Creed break up tho T_T

author=CashmereCatHuh? Can is one of the most talented and innovative music groups of all time. Their drummer could give John Bonham and Neil Peart a run for their money. Michael as well was a very talented and unique guitarist. Hell I think Kanye West named them as an influence.
Can? More like can't lol
Yeah I'm just kidding relax. I'm just trolling. Like whatever you want to like. The truth is I have listened to Can here and there and they ain't bad and I was satirizing some people's (including possibly my own) seeming lack of reverence for other genres other than "popular". I have quite a particular taste in music too it's just not avant garde rock but I have listened to 3 Swans albums and they pretty cool they probably just ain't my cup of spiced tea. I still recognize why they be enjoyed tho
Edit: ooh I like Brian Eno a little but only because I like his production on The Talking Heads' Remain In Light (a curiously fantastic album) and he collabed with James Blake recently with "Digital Lion" and it was epic.
Edit 2: And yes I realize that neither of those are avante garde rock but I just want to be relevant ok lol

Yeah I figured you were I actually found it pretty funny but I'm such a huge Can fan I had to defend them anyway lol.

Realized that Brian Eno was ancient as soon as I posted.

Brian Eno ancient? He's not even the oldest I posted. Hell if he's ancient then what is Pierre Schaeffer lol?
