Greetings and welcome to Aethers' Forge - pretty much where I am going to post my art drawing... stuff.
My name is Aethers (was s_w in case of confusion) and I am yer host. Anyway, I was never good with intro, so here's a short faqs:

I am an old lurker/member in here but has been inactive for ages. Long story short: Real life happens; been away for a few years; decided to got back three month(-ish) ago; life enjoy ironies - so stuff happened soon after and I got pretty occupied. So I was gone, again.
Hopefully things will be ok this time round tho'

Hot dang! I didn't ask fer' yer life story. So what is this thread about?
Recently I start to think about improving my drawing skill again after being absent for so many years - the usual, colouring (which I am terrible at) and pixel (feels awkward after didn't do it proper for a long while). While I was wondering about the best way to doing it, I remembered the old daily art thread and how it helped really? me in the past so I want to try something similar again.

Ahoy! That doesn't explain anything ya know!
Basically, this thread is going to be updated daily..ish -'cause I am realistic- but hopefully pretty frequent. As for the content, I decided to share some designs from my list of it-will-be-done-when-it-is-done games, some games I fancy and whatever else crossed my mind I guess.
I figured while I would feel much easier to talk about, get my stuff organized, get me inspired periodically, maybe share some ideas with the others, get feedbacks (maybe) no, really, please don't hold back and comment! It's lonely here, wait shit, that's creepy. You know, fun stuff and magic.

I know I ain't that great of an artist doodler, but hopefully I'll get better as this thread goes on and can leave some good impression on ya' all. As for the rest of us the more cynical sort, you know, even if this thread is gonna be a friggin trainwreck, let's watch the fireworks together.

Yep, if anyone wanted to help me with my sub par works, feel free to point out your observations. I do apologize in advance because I might get lazy about doing re-touches (most of these are going to be sketches/scraps!) but I will keep it in mind for future stuff tho'. I short, if you wanna show me how it's done, feel free to hurt my feelings. You meanie.

Min maxing shouldn't be allowed. In fact, I think the player should be deprived of any luxuries. Keep 'em weak and on their toes, and when they least expect it, you give 'em the ol' good guillotine. And they'll love it! cause it's CHALLENGING their reflexes!
Feel free to talk about gaming stuff here too when it is relevant (ex, I posted some design words words words or talk about games). Just... if it's too derailing, try using PM or spoiler tag (is it working now?)

Double Posting cause I am on a roll and this is MY thread (mods, take note). YEAAAHH

Let's start with something simple.


Meet MCMain O'Character (not real name). This guy is suppose to be the main character of a game I am working on (HAhaha, I can't even write this without laughing. Imagine it, WORKING!).

Anyway, he's pretty rad I'd say. Made a nice sprite too but I wasn't sure why I chose purple as the scarf color. Also I don't want to ruin TFT's magnum opus by competing with his purple scarf thing on everyone (I know I am going to win if when I released my game).

Truth: It gets strange when you are suppose to be a non "chosen one" - you are a mere knight, not even a particularly high ranking one - and you have custom armor/scarf (there must be a rule against that in most uniformed organization). THEN it gets weirder when you are suppose to be relaxing/sleeping/bathing with the helmet on.

I dunno, sometimes it irked me, but I am willing to use suspension of disbelief argument though. It's a game.

Sadly I don't think I can make that hueg eyes goofy look for everyone. Just... not good enough to make em' look too different ok.

As for the project this is a view of it :

(sorry, I kinda thought it would be cool to use black BG. Expect more inane stuff like this)

In short, it is a mecha game a'la Vanguard Bandits Vanguard Bandits or Masou Kishin. You have a bunch of pilots, and as you progress, you obtain more Mechs or Steel Frames as I called them (wait, I am not even sure that's their name. Might need my old design document).

I had idea about having 20 ish frames for 8 ish party member so you can swap 'em as you pleased. But that itself it overly ambitious methink. Not to mention specialization and how it detract character or special mechs uniqueness. I mean, come on, when you get ultima weapon; even if you are going to use that broken stick you got at the beginning of the game (because you know, low level challenge is a thing); you sure ain't gonna use that third or fourth sword you picked up along in the middle (that is... probably iron sword and steel sword respectively).

As for customization per parts, yeah, showpictures count probably shoot to the roof. Still thinking of it sometimes though.

Anyway, that idea was messed up because of the amount of time needed to sprite them (but I did make a standardized "base" though!) like this


Except that big = terrible in Rm2k3. So it's smaller and less quality. A good thing actually! but still painful to make (also less detailed. Not sure I liked this).

Anyway, more mechs? sure why not. Can't have enough of 'em myself.


Turns a bit better than I thought. I am not too keen of the yellow color though.

Here's how it's supposed to be in-game


This was planned in Rm2k3 and I thought my idea was pretty neato (who doesn't think his/her ideas neat anyway).

Basically each mechs can only have 1 element installed in their system - which varies from : Fire;Ice;Wind;Elec;Earth - and no more. I'll refrain from explainig the whole paper beat rock equation because pretty much everyone have an idea of how it works anyway.

In addition, there are 3 different physical attribute as well (Slash, pierce, bash); And then There is the whole MLE VS RANGED attack. Which means there are basically 6 attributes (physical) in total, 3 for melee, 3 for ranged. It sounds complicated, but ain't too hard to emulate (in limited way) in Rm2k3.

Since I am fond of 3 playable Heros in battle (4 is a bit busy on the interface and view), I decided to allow the player to have "SUPPORT" units. This way, it allows the player to mix and match skills as they please. LAstly, the squad system also adds bonuses to stat depending on who you pair up with.

In short, the system was made to prevent slugfest because the player only focused on one element/attribute (you could, and that would mean huge bonuses to those stat/attribute).

In the end, I decided to go with CBS to make it much interesting and I admit, CBS does appeal more to me. Though using RM2k3 to make a CBS does sound painful... alas I am not sure I can handle complex programming language aside from the easy to access rm2k3 nor using pre made script (because well... things I made myself are easier for me to understand and fix. I think I get the basic, but to actually write 'em? too tough for the current me).

That's another story though.

Technically I failed short a few hours of my self-imposed daily work. Oh well, vidya games did it.



Testing a few basic techniques here and there. To be honest though, it turned out too fancy imo.

Makes a good card-ish thing though, so I guess... it's ok. lineart is too thick (note to self: reduce brush size). Colouring and Shading still a mess though, unfortunately.

I haven't really read the topic from the beginning to end (seems like a lot to catch up to) so i am not too sure how that works. Glad you like em though.

Also signing in the middle of an event, from past experience, doesn't do me good most of the time!

As for the lack of update yesterday

Or was is called blackout in english? whichever. It was pretty disheartening so I decided not to draw anything.

Progress update : Colouring is still a bane of mine.
Might need to check some videos (youtube hopefully) on how to do this.
Also can't decide which friggin brush to use for colouring. After 2 years you'd think I already know my brushes, but nooooooo
ENTRY 6TH

MP-Type, Multi purpose walker mech.


Those green lines at the sides, behind and front are where the weapon system are loaded.
Basically concept from a game where you decide which weapon to load for upcoming battle (RPG). Honestly, if you played Cyber Knight for SNES, just replace biped mecha with this and that's pretty how it works.


Extra concept a few days ago. I kinda forgot how to draw the walker, so had to search for old sketches. I just remembered that I based it on MG REX if that isn't obvious already.

Something I whipped out pretty quick. Tis' chummer is my runner.

SR:Dragonfall is a neat little game. Slightly lacking here and there yes, but immersive nevertheless.

A monster concept of a horror game in the vaporware space.

Turns out pretty neat, I had fun with the brush.
The best part? I can't remember how I properly did this. I doodled it up to kill time while I am waiting for RMN to load (is it just me?) - then I kind of forgot.

So the one I did just on a whim turned out better than the ones I properly learn? Lol.
