So, as we all know, the Misaos are a pile of corruption and secrets and possibly also poop. And, anyway, just clicking a radio button can't explain why a thing is totally awesome and better than everything else.
So, here is a thread where you can share your choices for Totally Best Game Mechanics of 2014! What was the most fun to play? What had some clever new mechanics that may totally revolutionize everything? Which puzzles or levels were the most fiendishly amazing and possibly diabolical? Babble to your hearts' content about the fine examples of technical prowess in 2014!

Well, I didn't see anyone else posting anything, so you're gonna have to deal with the presence of four terrible threads.

Unfortunately, I am a bum and I didn't play as many of the newer RM games this year... there are a few that stuck out for me, though - but probably no surprises.
I liked the combo-centric battle system in Remnants of Isolation - I thought it was a cool way to link the characters to each other, as well as adding a bit of strategy that was fun but not overly complex.
I loved Dreaming Mary, mostly for the sheer amount of love and polish that was put into the art and music. It's short and simple, but I feel like the impact of the incredibly sad story is tied really closely to the art - the cuteness of the world makes the serious parts of the game hit a lot harder! Anyway, I liked it.
Also, a small thing - I really liked the exploration system in Ars Harmonia. The game is not much different than a VN, but scrolling around a town and clicking on people to talk to them is just a little dose of interactivity that makes the game feel more interesting than just having everyone you need to talk to run up to you.
Finally, I thought Carpan had a nice art style, even if it's a fairly short experience.
I'll try and remember other stuff from this year as well :P

It has pretty neat gameplay mechanics. It was made for that big competition (IGMC) and won Humble Bundle's fav gam. It was half-cooked as there weren't enuf monsters for heroes to slay, both music and graphics were RTP. Only working part was a twist.
The twist is really great, cuz It is a RPG game without fighting. And It has mechanics which can substitute this very essence of the majority of rpgs. Gathering of items and informations works great and its fresh. Also in traditional rpgs I usually tend to hoard money, so its naturally appeals to me.

The Farming One had pretty cool and innovative mechanics. Its farming system was like Harvest Moon but sped up and you got rewards almost instantly. It had various mechanics such as mining, fishing and woodcutting to keep things varied, and overall it was an extremely balanced income simulator.
Last Minute Gift... this game is a speed-run addiction, I have been playing it on and off for the past few weeks and it's just such a replayable title. The gameplay mechanics are excellent.

I was very impressed by the technical prowess behind Exeunt Omnes. Some of the controls were a little wonky, but the concept was pulled off in a really impressing manner. One does not simply create such a powerful custom engine like this one.
Slashphoenix' Mirror Boy was also loads of fun to play. It has a few oddities and is way too short in my opinion - but the latter only shows it's so enjoyable and cleverly crafted that it left me wanting more.
In Arcem Miseria had some issues in the combat system, but all in all it's a really impressive game with very cool puzzles and "dungeon" design.
I also agree with CashmereCat's opinion about Last Minute Gift. It's simple, but a lot of fun.
