New England Patriots (14-4) V.S. Seattle Seahawks (14-4)

I’m surprised that nobody’s made a topic about this yet, considering it’s one of the biggest sporting events of the year. Well – it looks like it’s up to me, RMN’s resident sportsguy, to finally get the ball rolling.

So this year’s matchup is the New England Patriots, fresh off their somewhat conversational victory involving some sort of a deflategate thing in the AFC Championship game over the Indianapolis Colts verses the defending Super Bowl champions from last year and had to, quite literally, pull off a miracle comeback to beat the Green Bay Packers to get here again, the Seattle Seahawks. Both teams sport fantastic quarterbacks, deceptive coaches, and their fair share of talkative superstars. Does Tom Brady and co. have enough of what it takes to win that elusive fourth Superbowl championship and the first one since 2005? Or can the Seattle Seahawks continue to do the impossible and win back-to-back championships for the first time in their history.

Now originally if Green Bay managed to hold on that last game and managed to defeat Seattle to get to the Superbowl to face off against the Patriots, I really would have had no interest in watching it this year, considering I don’t like either team. But now that Seattle has pulled off the impossible, it’s become something to watch again.

I’m voting for Seattle in this one and I’m predicting a 37-23 final score, although I’m completely unentirely sure about this one. I dunno, there’s something in my back of mind that says this could get reaaaaaal interesting – but who knows! I know my brother’s a Patriots fan and he would love to rub it in all of our faces if they managed to win. I don’t why he's voting for them in this kind of situation this year, considering that Seattle is the closest NFL team next to Vancouver, but I guess he's gotta stick with his picks.

Anyways, will you be watching the big game this Sunday? Who do you think’s gonna win and are any of you going to any Superbowl parties like I am this weekend? If not - how come? Are you just not interested in it this year, or are you busy doing something else that weekend, like working, and what not.

Either way, make those predictions and tell me a good place to pick up some cheap chips and dip. (I'm on a tight budget.)
I live in Seattle (even though not a native), so I have to care. Not that I wouldn't because I'm a football fan. I know Seattle gets the bandwagon treatment, but I mean, I kinda dislike the Pats, so there's that too.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

If the poll had been "Do you know who's in the Super Bowl, what month it takes place in, or whether it's football season right now?" my answer would have been no.

But there's a Scottish-themed sports bar near me where the waitresses dress up in bikini-kilts, and I need an excuse to go there, so this is a good one. Especially since I don't get TV.

You're magical to me.

Yeah, I second that there should have been an "I don't even know who's playing" option (that way I'd have something I can vote for XD)

Yeah, we've got another "I didn't even know who was playing" person over here!
I've seen way too many sports games to ever really be excited about one. Will it be a good game? Being the final game of the playoffs doesn't mean jack. Especially with the NFL and Superbowl commercials* and halftime and it will just drag on for forever. I'm not going to put any time away to watching a sports game, least of all the Superbowl.

I did however know who was playing before this thread though.

* I only get Canadian commercials so it would probably be an endless stream of a Rogue escaping the horrible mud monster every break, sometimes twice!

They shouldn't have started standardizing the Super Bowl Logo. It's like the olympics- seeing the different logos for the different years is cool, you get to analyze a lot of different logo designs for the same thing and learn from them.

That's literally the extent of my shit-giving about Football.
I once watched the superbowl live. It was on a local channel that, while being commercial, didn't have nearly as many commercial breaks as the real one so most of it was spent watching a view of the stadium where nothing happened. (the commentators also didn't bother talking during this). But it was still fairly interesting. Me and a friend tried to work out what the rules of american football were and googled and read wikipedia and stuff.

(And now I checked wikipedia which game it was and it was probably the 2008 superbowl, because I remember it being low-scoring with impressive defensive play. I love defense)

After that I casually watched the superbowls. They were nearly always available on the TV-show torrent download site I frequented so I tended to take them down too and watch a bit of handegg action. Then through a science fiction audtiobook (The Rookie) where they explained the rules a bit for beginners I decided that I should follow this sport a bit more. After all it does look like a lot of fun.

So a couple of years ago I arbitrarily picked a team from the NFL (Minnesota Vikings) and started watching all of their games.

For this year's superbowl I don't really care all that much. Neither team has very exciting team colours and very boring logos so whoever wins wins. But I guess I'll watch it. Even though I've found that apparently superbowl games are often quite bad!

On the other hand if we are talking about the biggest sporting event of the year. What about the FIS skiing world championship in Falun in February?

Above all, I hope for a good game (like the NFC championship game) so I can be entertained.

But as a person living in Seattle, I will be publicly hanged if I don't commit my life blood to the Seahawks.

So I support the Seahawks. "I'm just here so I won't get hanged."

The Pats cheaters? Maybe, maybe not. I'd rather beat them fair and square rather than "take action". It's just a game, it's just entertainment.

Damn it… Why didn’t they just give the ball to Lynch instead of making that short pass on the final play on the one yard line! Seattle would have probably won the game!!!

*sigh* Oh well…it was an amazing finish and a damn fine enjoyable game to watch. Any championship match that comes down to the wire is always good in my books, win or lose. It certainly beats watching last year’s Superbowl where one team, that will remain anonymous to avoid p**sing me off, didn’t even bother to show up.

Congrats New England Patriots and their loyal fanbase. You guys got lucky.

At least I didn’t manage to bet any money this time. :P
3/4s of the halftime show was absolutely stellar. 1/4 of the halfshow was beyond AWESOME.

you go Left Shark!

"This is like one of those cheesy sitcoms where the star gets in the suit to hide from the security guard chasing him, and then is accidentally rushed on stage by the stage manager thinking it's the dancer."
Yeah dudes, instead of running the ball with Marshawn Lynch, one of the best running backs in the league, they go for a pass and completely screw the game. Basically to me, it seems like a classic case of being too smart for your own good.
Yeah, but Russell threw a soft floater to a receiver with like 18 receptions ever. If he fires it off sooner and at his hip, at worst you get an incomplete pass, or tackled at the 1 yard line. But that was an AMAZING interception though.
