Sorry for this in advance. I have an outrageously-stupid-poor-old-guy-doesn't-know-how-to-install-programs-properly-or-something question to ask.
After installing RPG Maker XP and the necessary ruby related stuff, I am getting an error message whenever I open the program:
Failed to obtain a trial serial number from the nTitles server.
Yup. Um, I am running Vista and not XP, could that be the reason?

Make sure your firewall is down (though may not be necessary after next step). When starting rm, right click the executable and select "run as administrator". Or you could just completely turn off that damn UAC. Anyway, I am pretty sure that you do not need to install the ruby runtime to use XP (does that for you), but it doesn't matter.
EDIT: And make sure that you are connected to the internet :)
