CloseYeah, I cut my FPS teeth on the old Unreal game back in the 90s. I played some DOOM and Quake and Duke Nukem 3D but Unreal was the game for me.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that my username hadn't been taken yet!
Anyways, I am an old gamer who's developed an interest in game development (mostly with mods though) and I haven't completed any projects in a long long while. I want to try my hand at making an adventure game or RPG and that's why I am here.

Tournament is like the best fps ever. And original Unreal engine still rocks. And Arena sucks.

Yes I did play Heretic or Hexen...but I can't remember which! I didn't play it very much though - it was only a shareware or demo version of it that I got off a PC Magazine demo disc iirc. I *think* it was Heretic. I didn't get into it because I found the melee combat kind of awkward.
I recently bought Unreal Tournament 2004 on GOG and it's as crazy fun as I remember. I need to pick up the original UT sometime and play it again.
...but then I wouldn't have time to make games...

Kinda sounds like Heretic to me. The Gauntlets of the Necromancer was basically a re-hash of the Doom chainsaw, and they both sometimes have weird moments to them.
*Edit: Though, if you were doing melee combat right off the bat, it's possible you were doing the demo of Hexen with the fighter or cleric class?
