Here's a nice place to share all kinds of advice and how-tos for visual arts (that aren't necessarily pixels).
To start off with, here's a quick guide on how to deal with the problem of doing your lines on the sketch layer.
Also, something I feel like every artist needs to be reminded of: Successful Creative People Say "No."

That's a clever use of the Color Range Selection!
I use it myself to make the background transparent on sprite sheets.

If anyone fancies trading me a crash course in pixel art for a crash course in RGSS scripting, feel free to contact me.

A video I used when I was learning the line art process.
A bunch of people chiming in on how they make good line art.
Some good line art, coloring, and shading tips. The first in a 3 part series.
Pixel art that covered characters as well as tilesets.
Pixel art tuts.
A really good channel more specific to hand-drawn stuff.
A speedpaint. High level stuff (I know I'll never get THAT good), but it's not bad to watch every now and then.

This was and still is my pixel bible, the man who wrote it is an extremely talented artist . It goes over both do's and don't's, excellent reference.
This was a big help when I was learning color theory and how to apply it to pixel art

Ah, one thing to say about speedpaints: they don't teach anything. You can hardly see what tools and techniques the artist uses and there are no explanations provided. They're good to show off an artist's work and nothing else.
One of the best advice I can give to beginner digital artists is to not try to learn everything right away. Learn one tool or one technique at a time and draw something with it. Practice. A lot.
For every hour you spend reading or watching tutorials, you should spend at least 3 hours on actual practice.
Why shadows aren't gray by RianaLD. Shading/light sources very well explained and shown.
How to Draw Cloth by JaneMere. Excellent explanation here as well.

A nice layout tut. For depth of characters in a single frame. Similar to how I was taught (and better presentation too!)

Here's a video on 3 different types of art practice. Go to 1:00 to skip all the intro stuff not related to practicing.
