SO, THE NEW GHOSTBUSTERS MOVIE... NO, NOT THAT ALL GIRL ONE. THE OTHER ONE. YES, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT.

So, for anyone who doesn't know, Sony is planning on making a "regular" Ghostbusters movie featuring a male cast. This one, unlike the all female version, will be headed by Ivan Reitman, Anthony and Joe Russo, and Drew Pearce. Reitman, who was director and producer on the first two movies, will be supposedly using various notes and story ideas from Dan Ackroyd as well.

In terms of who will be suiting up in the movie? First official name is Channing Tatum. Not a horrible choice, but there are probably better options out there. Still, I think he can do well enough.

Second cast member? Still a rumour, but it's being heavily suggested that Chris Pratt will be in the movie due to having a real life friendship with Channing Tatum and wanting to collaborate on a film with him. I'm not opposed to this, as I'm a big Chris Pratt fan. He's a fantastic comedic actor.

The other cast members are not yet decided from what I can tell, but who would you guys like to see? Personally, I've got two names. Steve Carell and Chris Tucker.

Why Steve Carell? A better question is why not? I think he could easily portray an Egon sort of character while also bringing his usual goofy charm. They would also need an actor who has proven comedic chops and lots of appeal, and I think Steve Carell has that in spades.

Why Chris Tucker? He's a pretty funny guy! He could also fill the Winston role, making it feel more like a spiritual successor than something new by having another black actor on the cast. I'm also pretty sad that he hasn't had many acting gigs in recent years. Being in something like a Ghostbusters "soft reboot" would surely help him get things back on track. His acting style would also really suit the goofy sort of vibe the Ghostbusters franchise possesses.

So, how about you guys?

...There was an all-female one? Wow, I'm totally out of touch with movies these days.

I don't know how I feel about this. I love the original as it was a favorite of our household growing up (my brothers had the proton pack toys too XD) but... I dunno. Hopefully a new one will be good.
There's one in the works with an AWFUL cast. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong. You read that right. Very not appealing. I can think of a hundred female actresses I'd rather see than any of them.
I had a glow in the dark Ghostbuster logo tshirt. it was sweet.

I thought the all-female reboot was a cool idea. But I have to admit I haven't followed it all too closely and honestly don't know if the all-female one is a reboot or a continuation of the original, or alternate universe, or what, and I don't know where this Tatum one plays into the continuum either. I did see twitter blow up over the announcement of a "boys" version of the reboot, though.

I bet they tap on the shoulder of Jay Baruchel to play the Egon-type. And I bet dollars to donuts Jonah Hill is in there somewhere. Maybe as the Rick Moranis foil character. Chris Tucker is a good choice. But then, it will probably be Terry Crews

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

I somehow feel that anyone whose name I would recognize would automatically be disqualified from appearing in either of these movies. I mean, I'm expecting the budgets on them to be in the ballpark of three figures.
I didn't see Ghostbusters until I was older, so maybe it's just me, but I don't see why they were so popular. Any remake of the franchise seems like a bad idea, let alone two. Actually, fuck remakes in general. Give me new stuff to like.
but is it a remake?? are either of them remakes? I don't even know.

The all-female one was going to be a reboot slash spiritual successor. Of course, that was back in October, they may have changed their minds since then.

Can we call the two versions Nutbusters and Ghostbustsize to differentiate them?
Isn't this the third movie planned as a Ghostbusters sequel/spinoff/remake/etc.? Just make something already if you're gonna do it else I'll just go and watch this thing which has the benefit of actually existing.

Please not Steve Carrel! I don't think he's a strong actor or that funny. And I love the Office. But ehhh...

I enjoy Jay Baruchel and believe he would play any role well. Danny Mcbride could make any role funny even if it means toning it down abit.
Craig Robinson would be a good Winston in my opinion, I like the guy.
Is this the one that is the Jump Street crossover because I thought that idea was awesome. 23 Jump Street: Ghostbusters. What a sequel that would be. First they make a surprisingly awesome movie. Then they make a decent sequel that is all about how sequels are just the same movie over again (and it was the same movie over again) and then the third one is fucking ghostbusters!

Also Channing Tatum is pretty brilliant. Maybe this is some kind of fanboy in me, but to me he has some pretty damn good comic potential (see also: Armie Hammer, that guy is hilarious, it's just sad that he's in not great movies)

Just as an example of the greatness of Channing Tatum:

EDIT: So I was a bit off base. It was Men in Black that they had pitched as a Jump Street sequel. Which makes a bit more sense I guess and is also awesome.

@InfectionFiles I thought Steve Carell was really good in The Way Way Back, and he got an Oscar nomination for Foxcatcher, so he couldn't be too bad, right?

Armie Hammer was excellent in The Social Network, but I guess he didn't have a very comedic part, even though some of his lines are pretty darn funny.

I would only add that people like Bradley Cooper would add something fantastic to the movie, but being in high demand and all, I'm not sure if he'd accept, or if he'd fit with the dynamic either. Robert Downey Jr would obviously be a huge hit with audience fandom, but he probably needs to pull in huge salaries for his parts. Bill Hader might be clever, if they want to bring Saturday Night Live into the action (he's one of the most versatile actors to hit their stage). I wouldn't be surprised if Paul Rudd is considered, or Will Ferrell, but perhaps they're too old and they have too many ties to the Anchorman franchise that will impact their suitability for the film negatively. Now that I think of it, James Franco seems incredibly likely. He's about the same age and humour type as Channing and Chris, and he has proven his acting chops sometimes to boot.

That's all I can think about for now. All I can predict is that they're likely to go with a young cast unless they want that "young vs. old" dynamic going on.

I was four-years-old when Ghostbusters came out. I was five when it went to video. I literally wore out the tape watching it. For years, I've been anticipating a sequel, then as the actors got older and Murray kept stonewalling, I looked forward to maybe a sequel with the surviving actors maybe training and passing the torch on to a new generation of Ghostbusters.

Sony? Naw, just a couple of reboots are good enough for them. I don't even watch all of these reboots anymore there's so many of them. I can't imagine why so many do. Then after everybody buys enough tickets to fund a sequel, everybody bitches about what a waste of money it was.

@CashmereCat - He really isn't that bad, I probably overstated. I just don't see him as a Ghostbuster, I guess?
As for all your picks, I totally agree and thought of those actors too. Bill Hader would be amazing!

@pianotm - Spot on, really.

I Bet there will be at least one woman on the team.
I've never heard most of the names. What about Bill Murray? That would be something (and someone I remember). They won't get people in cinema with these greenhorns.

Oh I beg to differ. Channing Tatum alone will have girls coming to theatres in hordes. Just have a poster of him shirtless and they'll all come rushing in.
I'm actually looking forward to the all-female one because it's not a group of actresses that have big roles and aren't as well known. Also because women kicking ass is my kinda thing. I wish more remakes would change the gender roles around a bit more. They don't need to make every man female, but changing a couple would be great. Too many male-only hero movies. Women can be just as (if not more) badass. :<

That said, I'll keep an eye out for both of these. They probably won't be as cheesy-awesome as the original but hey, who knows? As long as they don't fall into *redacted* territory it should be fine.

there was never an avatar the last airbender movie. movie does not exist /jedi mindfuck

Highly unlikely. Bill Murray was part of the reason why we never got a legit Ghostbusters 3.

Bill Murray has actually signed on to the female Ghostbusters. He's supposed to play a paranormal investigator trying to debunk the Ghostbusters.
Seriously? What the hell, Bill? He was the only one of the original four who didn't want a sequel for the longest while and was holding up the project repeatedly. Aykroyd's probably groaning some hard.
