So apparently one of the best comedic writers of our time has left us. To avoid the rush.

This is... deeply upsetting. I mean I've rarely cared before about "celebrity deaths". But this one is getting to me just at this moment. Few people have had as much influence on the way I view the world as Pratchett had through his books.

So yeah.

You're magical to me.

;_;

I'm very saddened. He gave the world so many great stories.
oh no....

Rest in Peace, Sir Pratchett. Your stories have at least changed me for the better.
First Nimoy, now Pratchett? What is the world coming to, that all the best are dying on us? And 2015 looked to be such a hopeful year. ;.;

I'm gonna go break out some Discworld later on today.
I've never actually read any of his books. But he seemed like a cool dude. RIP.

This one's hitting me almost as hard as Nimoy's death.

Go in peace, Sir Terry.

Never read any books either, but he was a big deal here in the UK. His death's the top story on BBC News right now. And yeah, 66 is too young in this day and age. RIP.
I realized that Pratchett's books has been with me for such a long time. The Bromeliad was a set of books I read with great interest as a kid. And I think The Colour of Magic was one of my first english-language novels. It was probably a bit too advanced for me at the time, I still haven't got the foggiest idea what the book was actually about. Partially poor memory and partially poor comprehension skills.

Last year I was enjoying The Long War and The Long Mars. Co-written with Stephen Baxter. I think there are supposed to be more books in that series and I hope there will be. Stephen Baxter has a sort of unfortunate co-author history. He did three books with Arthur C. Clarke (A Time Odyssey) that possibly were supposed to be more, but then Clarke left us.

But man. Pratchett's books has meant so much to me over the years. Most of my ideas about "heroes suck" come from Pratchett and you know I was sort of introduced to Neil Gaiman through Good Omens and that is one hell of a duo.

I mean Pratchett is also sort of the once and forever king of comedic fantasy. Everyone is compared to him. (just like all sci-fi comedy is compared to Douglas Adams... Another guy that had stories left in him when he left)

Godsdammit. I just can't get over that he's not around anymore.

I'm actually rereading my way through the Discworld novels at the moment, and this is striking so hard. When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's I remember being so shocked that such a brilliant and creative mind could be faced with that terrible sentence, but he just kept on writing and producing some brilliant work, thumbing his nose at it. That made me smile, and probably kept me thinking he would be around forever. Foolish hope, but I did so want him with us for a while longer.

I'm sure Death turned up personally to escort him through the desert, he was a wizard after all.

I think Sir Terry would have got a kick out of this
