So basically this is my teenage years all over again. Baldur's Gate was an amazing RPG (that I played again as recently as last year), so I am pretty psyched about Pillars of Eternity. I haven't even followed it closely, but the inspiration (BG and its ilk) and Obsidian Entertainment are both high-quality stuff, so I have little concern that this won't also be good.

...I don't really have $44 though to spend on it. yet.

Kind of wish I had the means to help fund the Kickstarter of it way back when. Oh well. (and oh look! a game funded by Kickstarter that's actually been released!)

The Hero edition is the game, then the higher tiers like Champion and Royal just contain the extras like OST, almanac, high res map, documentary, novella, collector's book, strategy guide etc...

How excited are you?
I kickstarted this way back when. I wish I followed the dev process more because Obsidian and Josh Sawyer's talking about the challenges and their approach was super interesting but fell behind and became a backlog. I'm hyped though and I gotta get my kickstarter status sorted out so I can nab this. I don't remember which version I got though but that'll just help more with a blind first playthrough!
Man... More kickstarter games should fail. I have like five on Steam and I might have maybe finished one. Who has time to play all these amazing crowdfunded games?

Metascore is 93, whooooo. Bloodborne and this around the same time? We've already got 2 contenders that are potentially GOTY material, based on their scores.

Inappropriate, I know.
But I don't get around to buy it and eventually play it too any time soon. I've just discovered that I have Icewind Dale 2 installed for over an year on my laptop and haven't touched it yet.
Jeez, It looks so good. Have you seen Wot I think yet?
Been playing it. It feels good to be playing an actual RPG for once. I really didn't like the Bioware/Bethesda RPGs because they spent a lot on production values for what mostly feels like bad writing, awful cutscenes, and pointless options. WRPGs are way more stronger when there's more reading to do and choose your own adventure roleplaying sections.

I rolled a monk and been barefisting through most encounters. Eder is pretty cool.

i love me2/3 and the whole dragon age series because they're basically fun, interactive pulp fantasy/pulp scifi movies. the writing isn't AMAZING (especially not in me2/da:o) but they deliver HIT 'EM HARD AND FUCK THE HOT GUY fantasy really well.

I don't know, but I found myself especially amazed by ME2's finale. Some other aspects of the second installments were over the top, tho. That's the truth. Overall, I think writing of ME2 is better and less cliche than one of the first one.

Edit: No more hide tags.

what the hell happened with all those hide tags, cap

also i never played the first mass effect so i can't compare it! i heard horrible things about the UI and thus avoided it.

it's been fun talking to a friend of mine about how our in-game experiences have differed in only the first few hours of the game. i completed a quest properly, he killed a quest npc too quickly out of rash misjudgement; i've been playing a tanky paladin, while he's been enjoying the hell out of chanter and its ridiculous chant names. helps that it's just a good game, variety be damned! i'd probably enjoy it if it were linear, too, but i'm glad it isn't.
Been playing this lately. It's pretty difficult but I guess that's why I chose hard mode, right? My main character is a Chanter (Bard). I only have four members in my party so far: chanter, warrior, priest, and wizard. I haven't hired any custom-made heroes because I figured my first time through should be with the story-related characters.

You can eventually send characters on off-screen adventures so a hireling just to fill a party slot temporarily isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The difficulty has plummeted since acquiring a priest and a second chanter. I can still get overwhelmed but as long as I use chokepoints and manage my spell slots things aren't too bad. The two tent limit is sort of annoying, though. I took a shortcut in the crypts below my keep, and am now worried I won't be able to get back before becoming fatigued and running out of magic. The drake there took everything I had.

Lucky me. Found some magic stairs on the same floor as the drake that took me back to the keep.
