TELL ME YOUR MMO STORY

So, I'm redownloading Age of Conan right now. I haven't plaid it for some years and I wonder how it is right now and whether I'll be able to jump in again. I wasn't one of these long time players. Frankly, I stayed with it for one intense week full of delicious fight and other memories. I liked it so much back then.
It started my marathon of trying of various MMOs. And so it happened I tried over forty of them in the single month. And wrote an article about it on my Posterous. Good Old Times with Posterous. I haven't come across such a good blogging site since.
So what is my story? It all started with Dark Elf, an predecessor of Travian, which we playd illegaly at school. It wasn't fun and your account was sent to hell after three days of inactivity. You could buy yourself ticket from it via text message.
Then I had chat with some of my classmates. They got me in Runescape. I was returning to this all time Evergreen. However I've never became a premium member and now really spent plentifora of time with it (in contrary to my classmates. They were weeks off school, just to play Runescape. One of them spent pretty much whole eight years of grammar school playing it).
I haven't plaid any MMO games for few years, I guess. But then they came. Ago of Connan followed by a massive tidal wave of free to play titles. I tried Perfect's world whole catalogue, a week with naval themed games, the whole portfolio of gPotato. I played one of their games day before they were shutting all their servers down. It was pretty funny game and it's emptiness was haunting. I met one player. We had some elemental chat. We didn't mention that this world is about to end.
I tried more. DC Universe, Both Everquests, Chains of Camelot (total hidden gem) and all games from three other Asian publishers.
The last time, I returned to MMO playing was roughly about an year ago with Stronghold Kingdoms. It's not a good game in any possible way. I ended up spending several hours a day playing on multiple servers. This time I was active member of a guild. That was the only fun this game offered me. I got crushed by Russians, tho. And with no power, there was no fun. I left.
I know, it's not an interesting story. What interests me more are your stories. What are your fav MMOs? Do you still play em? Do you have any Leroy Jenkins experience?

Well, there was this one time when I made a friend in my PE class when I was in middle school. He introduced me to a game called Runescape. We decided to hang out online and had a good time for about an hour.
Then he brought me over to the wilderness and killed me and took my stuff.
That was my first and last time playing an MMO or equivalent.

I tried doing a public beta of Rift (I think that's what it was called), crap, it feels like forever-and-a-half ago. My internet connection at the time wasn't that great, and I could swear that the download processing for the game-files restarted from scratch every time I booted it. Maybe I was just plain dumb, because I've never messed with MMOs before.
Anyway, I don't recall how big the game was supposed to be, but, needless to say, I gave up before I could even get started.

I used to play a Korean MMO called Ragnarok Online, back when it was in beta. This was in International RO (iRO) 2nd beta, when they'd just announced that it was the last day of testing before it closed prior to release.
I played a Magician called Giya Vantana (who is the main character in my RPG, Tundra) and was at this point around level 40 I believe. iRO had a crazy horrible exp curve (which is why most people even now play on private servers with increased exp rates) so this had taken me a long-ass time.
I'd mostly levelled alone in my time on the game, occasionally helping people in chat or joining a party but I'd never really played -with- people, if that makes sense.
Anyway, for some reason this day started out different. I was in one of my main farming spots, killing Horns (big beetle monsters) when I came across a couple of other players, who were also levelling in the area. We got chatting and had a good laugh, and we decided to group up and level as a party as it would likely be faster killing and thus more exp.
It was probably the most fun I've ever had in an MMO; at one point one of us died and we had a total mock dramatic scene complete with crying and throwing flowers on the corpse. It was awesome.
Anyway, at one point a Horn killed me and I had to warp back to town, in this case Prontera. My inventory was pretty full so I went to the equipment shop to offload some stuff, sitting down on the floor as I was sorting through everything as I usually did.
It was at that point that an Acolyte who was also in the shop cast a Warp Portal on the spot where I was standing. Warp Portal works thusly: The Acolyte can "memorise" up to three locations, and then when they cast Warp Portal they choose where that portal goes. Now, if they cast it on a spot another player is in, they will automatically be teleported to the memorised spot for the portal. Well, shit.
So after my loading screen went away I realised I was in a creepy-ass haunted castle kind of place that I'd never seen before with super spooky music that was actually creeping me out a bit. On the periphery were these bizarre purple pulsating ooze monsters with shields that I'd also never seen before. Yeah, I admit it, the place scared the shit out of me.
Thankfully I met up with an Archer and a Thief, who were likewise scared to death of the place and we teamed up against whatever monsters were lurking as we chatted to each other and tried to figure out how to get back to a town.
Unfortunately, at one point none of us were particularly paying attention; a Skeleton Archer spawned near us and took us out in a few hits.
And then when I got back to Prontera after respawning they announced that the servers were closing. Thus ended iRO beta 2.
