RPG MAKER HELP?

Hello!
I was wondering if anybody would be willing to help me understand RPG maker VX Ace better.
I realize that I could just look up tutorials and figure everything out that way, though that takes a lot of time that I'm unsure of having.
If not, then that's totally fine.
I would simply like to understand how:
- To make characters constantly move on a constant pattern.
- How to use switches (Control Switch)
- How to enforce a battle with a certain characters
- How to add your own custom people to a party.

Hey there! I'll try to address your concerns one at a time.
To make characters constantly move on a constant pattern
Step #1:
Right-click your existing event and select "Edit Event..."
Step #2:
Select the Type dropdown menu and select "Custom".
Step #3:
Select "Move Route..."
Step #4:
Input the Move Route, and select OK.
That should work.
How to use switches (Control Switches)
Switches are more of a complex idea and it takes a deeper knowledge to understand. Fortunately there are many articles out there where they explain switches very well, in a step-by-step tutorial.
Despain's 2-part tutorial on Switches and Variables
GrandmaDeb's Ace Switches Demo/Tutorial (tutorial game)
One of those should prove pretty handy. It's one of those things you just have to learn. Sometimes taking the time out to learn these things will do you great benefit.
How to enforce a battle with certain monsters
Step #1
Step #2
How to add your own custom people to a party
There's several questions you could be asking here. You could be asking how to import your own characters, facesets to create your own custom characters to add to the party, or how to just create a hero in the database using the RTP characters, or how to specifically add an existing actor to your party. Could you be more specific on what you mean by this? Do you want an event that adds new characters to your party?
In conclusion
Nothing will probably beat a tutorial for you right now, or just to find your way around the program by experimenting. It might be a little effort, but it's effort well spent.

I'm gonna have to say that a tutorial is probably your best bet for understanding all of this. there are some great build-along tutorials, and I think it'd be worth it to check one out, even if it is just casually. I keep reccommending this one to new peoples, cause its really quite comprehensive.
For that battle thing with certain characters:
Fadeout screen
Remove / add party members
start battle
change party again after battle
Fadein screen.
(Don't forget that if you don't heal those removed party members will
retain any hp + statuses.)
I have a tutorial on auto-run events that uses control switches like they're your personal bitch.
To add graphics, such as new characters (I also have tutorial on this.)
